CLAT 2013

CRASH COUSRE & MOCK TEST SERIES

ACHIEVERS GUILD: THE SUCCESS STORY At Achievers Guild, we have always believed in creating a niche with our innovative and trend-setting initiatives. That’s why, we call it ‘creating CLAT cult’. Our initiatives is the testimonial of our approach and thought process, we don’t limit ourselves to a coaching institute by only preparing students for the entrance tests but being a support system in their further studies also.

Legally Yours is the only newspaper in the country dedicated to the legal fraternity. The vision of LY is to become an international platform for law researchers and professionals to publish their work; interact with likeminded people and to create a connect between laymen and lawmen.

‘Law Abiding Citizens’ campaign’ is our social initiative to promote moral, civic, legal ethics and values among the young generation through a variety of activities involving school and college students. The culmination of these activities is observed every year on July 31st as Law Abiding Day. Law Abiding Citizens Campaign

‘National Law Fest’ education fair for law aspirants for the first time in India organized by Achievers Guild, was yet another initiative to connect the law aspirants to the legal arena and to enlighten them about the emerging law schools and career prospects in law. Our other prominent initiatives include ‘De-Battle’ annual inter-school debate competition and www.clat.edu.in our educational web-portal.

This year Achievers Guild has stepped into the publication arena with our first one-ofits-kind publication AGGQ Achievers Guild Guess Questions, a question bank of 3000 plus questions with topic wise brief and solutions for law aspirants. It has proved as a boon for aspirants in their final preparations before appearing for the test.

At Achievers Guild, our philosophy is ‘It’s not about being in competition, it’s about being competitive’ this is what we practice as an institution and inculcates same values and work ethics in our students. This year as we are celebrating five years of our foundation and students success, we look forward to even better selections in law entrance exams than previous years and Achievers Guild, under the aegis of Sudhakarans Educational Services, becoming a national brand in law preparatory coaching with opening up new offices and study centers.

MESSAGE BY THE FATHER OF MODERN LEGAL EDUCATION I am happy that I am with you today, though I am placed at such a long distance from Trivandrum to interact with you on this event when young people are looking at the career possibilities particularly in the field of law. As a teacher who has been involved in legal education for the past six decades and more, I must tell you that you are fortunate to be looking for such opportunities at a time when the world is globalizing, economic development is happening at a rapid pace and opportunities for law trained people are opening up. Not only in litigation practice but in a variety of other fields where law is relevant for decision making particularly in business, in commerce, in trade, in journalism, in teaching and research, policy development you find; apart from civil both international and domestic, law knowing person’s have an advantage over others in finding useful employment outside the field the traditional field of litigation and adjudication of disputes. Of course this requires careful planning, hard work, knowledge outside the law, ability to translate them into a variety of skills which are needed for different areas of legal decision making. The curriculum in the law schools are changing, it ought to change much more, the people who have to equip themselves with knowledges in science, in social sciences blending it with law for appropriate decision making; to create an order a legal order an institutional set up to be able to serve the larger purpose of justice in society. I think young people will be well advised by this meeting and similar interaction with achievers in the field of law to be able to decide for themselves as to how the opportunities can be utilized with the help of available tools and technologies so that you may be able to perform with greater diligence and efficiency. The law schools are now competitive where you have to join how do you prepare yourselves how do you face the future challenges, well these are largely to be decided by each individual only some marginal assistance can be given by people who have accomplished whether in the law schools or in legal practice or in administration but interacting with them in meetings such as this will definitely help to decide for yourself most efficiently. I wish you the best of luck in meetings such as these and if I can contribute to what Siby Sudhakaran and his colleagues are doing in the Achievers Guild I will be most happy. I hope that sometime in the near future I would be able to be personally present wherever Siby is organizing such interactions so that I can personally interact with you and clarify some of the doubts that you might have in legal education, in how to work in a legal program to get the best of skills and develop the necessary ethical qualities to be a successful lawyer in future. Because your stage is not confined to your district or your state or even the country because a law trained person can operate from any part of the globe because law is a unifying force and we are developing a world legal order in which the future lawyer will be a trans-national player I wish you all the best thank you. FROM THE DESK OF THE DIRECTOR Our founder, Late Shri P V Sudhakaran once said, ‘If you take care of others’ wishes, your needs will be taken care-off’. We at Achievers Guild, with our team’s efforts and student’s dedication, take pride in saying that today we are reputed as the most authentic, steady and system driven CLAT Coaching institution with highest number of students trained and selected in central India. I am happy, that we learned early with the guidance of our mentors that education is all about ‘sowing and reaping’ i.e. what shall you sow, so shall you reap; you have to sow first to reap later and whatever you sow, you reap ten times more. And that the best recognition of an educational institution is positive word of mouth which can only come if the claims you make, match your delivery and that’s how you win the trust and belief of students and parents. We believe that students today are well informed and capable enough to decide for themselves about the future and career ahead. All they need is motivation, right direction and guidance to achieve the same. Here we act as a support system, preparatory school which helps law aspirants to crack the law entrance tests and make way into a glorious career in legal field. With our experienced teaching staff, unique pedagogy, well research study material, mock tests and strong administration; train our students to get through the challenge. Our results year after year is the proof of the same. We don’t limit ourselves to a coaching center where we just help students to crack the entrance test, rather we remain as a support system further in their journey towards becoming a successful law professional. Every initiative that we take at Achievers Guild is a testimony of our founders’ vision. Our publication ‘Legally Yours’ is the only newspaper in the country dedicated to the legal fraternity. The motive being, to create a connect between the laymen and the lawmen and for law students to publish their research work. 'Law Abiding Citizens’ campaign' is our social initiative, to create awareness about the moral, civic, legal ethics and values among the young generation through a variety of activities. 'National Law Fest' again is an initiative to promote legal education and to create awareness about career prospects in law by bringing together the major educational institutions at one place thus facilitating all the law aspirants in their decision making and further. It is also our first step towards becoming a national brand with pan India presence in law entrance preparatory institution. Having established its name in the field of legal education, Achievers Guild has decided to spread its wings, broaden its horizon and expand its base by diversifying into various facets of legal education. We at AG, call it the Great Renaissance. This publication is to guide and mentor law aspirants to their dream law schools and I believe it will achieve its purpose. Stay Blessed.

MENTORS SPEAK In order to excel in any field it is imperative to possess and master English language. Knowledge of English language opens gateway to plethora of things, unraveling mysteries that plague our minds. It is a must for all law aspirants because a deep knowledge of this language will help you to find strong hold in corporate world, business avenues, legal arenas and many other fields. It is expected that a law student must be very versatile, vocal, volatile, smart and expressive. This is only possible if you keep abreast with the latest pronunciation, have knowledge of the right usage of words, phrases and possess good & impressive vocabulary. You have to interact in English, daily learn new words and read a lot. Like any other language English is lucid and logical provided you understand the intricacies grammar. Don’t shy away from this beautiful language instead master it, believe me it will boost your confidence and will stand in good stead in your profession. Rashmi Bawa Director Academics English Faculty, Achievers Guild

What makes a society a civilized one is the presence of a legal order and persons who are present to defend and preserve this legal order. Legal professionals, in this respect have played a pivotal role. Inquisitiveness is a basic tenet of a student, which makes him the most eligible to pursue law as a profession. Law as a discipline is vast and difficult to be known to everyone in totality. That is the precise reason why, legal education aims at equipping students, not with how to remember law & legal principle but with an art how to “read” law, in a wider spectrum of society and social affairs. Achievers Guild realizes this responsibility of arming students with a broad understanding of general affairs happening around them in context of law, thus fulfilling the objective that CLAT seeks to find in its aspirants. Shivendu Joshi BA LLb (Honors), NLIU Bhopal, Legal & GK Faculty, Achievers Guild

General Studies as such is a very open-ended subject. Because of this if proper guidance is not available the student might end up reading things, which are trivial in nature and unimportant from the point of view of examination. Our teaching methodology of General Studies includes carefully scrutinizing the previous years' Question Papers, understanding the current trend and putting stress on important areas that fetch more marks in the CLAT exam. Students are taught how to analytically draw information from sources like Newspapers which will help them in the examinations. We at Achievers Guild know 'Understanding is a two way street', that is why; we encourage students to speak in the classrooms and have separate doubt clearing sessions after each class. Oral teaching is coupled with 'Take Away Notes', 'Worksheets', 'Group Discussion on Current Affairs', 'Individual Attention to Identify Weak Spots in Preparation' and most importantly, by 'testing students regularly' with the help of 'Topic Wise' & 'CLAT based' mock tests. MENTORS SPEAK Generally, our decision making involves the mind (or the brain) sensory mechanism, perception, cognition and the expression of results. We often will feel, perceive, think, remember and reason in an adaptive conscious and unconscious manner. In our daily lives, when we are faced with problems or just a situation which require a decision, we are often reminded to apply logic and reasoning for the most desired results. Hence, this is a basic reason why logic and reason are so essential in our lives. Logic and Reasoning are also important in career training and development on the job. In law, management, administration, finance, engineering, physics, chemistry, archeology, history and other disciplines, logic and reasoning are essential. We will be able to broaden the range of things we know and understand, be able to receive self-knowledge, foresight and a sense of direction in our daily lives. With increasing emphasis on an aptitude-based assessment methodology, Logical Reasoning has become a common, but nevertheless an integral part of any entrance exam. While this subject in itself can test the mental potential of a test taker from every aspect; fundamentals of sound logical reasoning clubbed with subjective knowledge has become a prerequisite for any examinations like CLAT. Vaibhav Chugh B-Tech, IIT Roorkee Logical Reasoning & Maths Faculty, Achievers Guild

Current happenings around us are indispensable part of life, but when somebody talk about Current affairs first thing that comes to mind is Cricket, Celebrities, Cinema because of their constant exposure to us. However it includes news/information on every walk of life, all the incidents, ranging from politics to science & Technology to Economy. Current affairs are our only touch with the outside world, they give us a medium to step out of our confined houses and contact the world we live in, analyze the environment and take necessary steps. Therefore we believe, for becoming a better citizen and Lawyer, aspirant should be able to ingest most of information & bring it to logical conclusion. A person who has a good general knowledge will have a broader view of life and can perform better, both academically and personally. Exams are not different. We understand in age of Information it becomes harder to keep track of everything. So applying more organic style of teaching is must to keep the interest levels high with chain of events of stories, quizzes & debates. We teach things taking world's larger perspective rather than sticking to fancy competition books of confined knowledge. Realizing the importance of changing trends in Current affairs & its inclusion in almost all competitive exams one needs to constantly expand his/her boundaries. Stay hungry, stay foolish! Vivek Khare BE, BITS Pilani, Current Affairs Faculty, Achievers Guild

A logical mind is the most creative and stable mind. An illogical mind resorts to chaotic thinking and leads to confusion and anarchy, it is therefore imperative that logical reasoning should be given enough importance. This is one of the subject that has relevance not only in Law entrance exams but also holds good in any competitive exam that an entrant sits for, be it Medical, Army, IT sector and Civil services. Hence we furnish you with some of the most important tips in order to perform well in this subject. Garima Jain M-Phil (Mathematics), Pursuing PhD Logical Reasoning Faculty, Achievers Guild

NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, DELHI established in 2008 by Act No.1 of 2008 of National Capital Territory of Delhi and with the initiative of High Court of Delhi is another Law University in the list of premier law Universities established in India. The vision of the University is to create a Global Legal Institution which will compete with the best outside India and to prepare Lawyers for a legal career that introduces them to wide range of opportunities in legal profession across the globe. The University's State of Art infrastructure is near completion at Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi with all facilities for best of learning and research. The University initially offers a 5-year integrated B.A., LL.B (Hons.) Degree Programme with effect from the Academic Year 2008-09 starting in August, 2008. The Vision Globalization is a challenge and also an opportunity in the present times. We require the convergence of Economics, Technology and Law. India had a long history of business and technology. The potential has been unleashed through the process of liberalization. Yet the smooth sailing requires the compass called Rule of Law. We have mixed track record on this count. India has established itself as a democracy which is a success on the macro participative process of governance. Yet, there are other crucial issues of internal dimension. There is a complex task of assimilation of the fractured social classes for centuries in such participation. Cumulative economic progress needs to reach the various layers to create a development index which is fair and equitable. Most importantly a transparent and speedy justice administration system which reinforces the faith in Rule of Law. Mahatma Gandhi said, "We must become the change we want to see in the world." Each one of us who is a part of this institution should be remembered for promotion of the social justice, which will be our contribution to the society. Our sincere endeavour will be to make legal education as justice education, as an instrument of social, political and economic change, and to prepare Lawyers who will be competent in the art of advocacy both at the trial and the appellate level and also skilled in judicial administration. The students of the NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, DELHI will be shaped as agents of change as the country mandates to achieve its developmental goals for future generations. The primary mission of the University will be to create Lawyers who will be professionally competent, technically sound and socially relevant, and will not only enter the Bar and the Bench but also be equipped to address the imperatives of the new millennium and uphold the Constitution of India. The Objectives Ÿ To evolve and impart comprehensive legal education including distant and continuing legal education at all levels to achieve excellence. Ÿ To organize advanced studies and promote research in all branches of law. Ÿ To disseminate legal knowledge and legal processes and their role in national development by organizing lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops and conferences. Ÿ To promote cultural, legal and ethical values with a view to promote and foster the rule of law and the objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India. Ÿ To improve the ability to analyse and present for the benefit of the public, contemporary issues of public concern and their legal implications. Ÿ To liaise with institutions of higher learning and research in India and abroad. Ÿ To publish periodicals, treaties, study books, reports, journals and other literature on all subjects relating to law. Ÿ To hold examinations and confer degrees and other academic distinctions. Ÿ To promote legal awareness in the community for achieving social and economic justice. Ÿ To undertake study and training projects relating to law, legislation and judicial institutions. Ÿ To do all such things as are incidental, necessary or conductive to the attainment of all or any of the objectives of the university. "Institution are not market places; neither education is a commodity traded on demand and supply. Institutions are knowledge spaces and education is a value in itself to distinguish between fair and unfair, just and unjust. It has to inculcate values like sacrifice, sensitivity to sufferings, courage to fight for justice and fairness, to stand up for the dispossessed and marginalized, the determination to stand against the odds for the sake of justice." - Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh

JINDAL GLOBAL LAW SCHOOL Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), India's first global law school is situated on an 80-acre residential O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) campus. JGU and JGLS are recognised both by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC). The vision of JGU is to promote global programmes, global curriculum, global research, global collaborations and global interaction through a global faculty. In the academic year 2013-14, JGLS offers a five year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programme; a three year LL.B. programme and an LL.M. programme. The LL.M. programme of JGLS is offered for law graduates, corporate lawyers, legal practitioners, civil servants, diplomats and judges with three options for specialization viz. International Trade & Investment Laws, Corporate & Financial Laws and Intellectual Property Rights & Technology Laws. Distinguished Faculty & Research Staff: The international educational background and experience of JGLS faculty members distinguishes it from any other law school in the country. With over fifty permanent teaching faculty members, JGLS is one of the largest law faculties in the country. The faculty student ratio being less than 1:15 is ideal from international standards. The faculty members have outstanding educational qualifications from reputed law schools of the world including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, UC Berkeley, NYU, LSE, Oxford and Cambridge among others. Among Indian Universities they come from reputed law schools and Universities like NLSIU, NALSAR, NUJS, JNU, DU, ILI, TISS and IIT Bombay, etc. Needless to say they bring the finest practices of teaching and pedagogy from India and all over the world to the classrooms of JGLS. Association of each faculty member with one of the fifteen research centres of the law school and appointment of full time research staff makes the law school a hub of legal research in cutting-edge areas providing opportunity to every student to become a part of it. Curriculum and Pedagogy: JGLS is committed to provide global legal education to its students. To fulfill this objective, the curriculum and teaching pedagogy is designed to give extensive exposure to students to domestic, international and comparative law courses. Students at JGLS study compulsory courses and choose from an unparalleled array of elective courses. In addition to courses on substantive and procedural law, students will gain lawyering skills through practical training papers and clinical legal programmes. JGLS inculcates sound research and writing skills among students by requiring them to write research papers and participate in the Research Centres. Research Centres and Publications: As India’s first global and research driven law school, JGLS has established fifteen research centres in cutting edge legal and policy areas. Publication of the bi-annual journal, Jindal Global Law Review represents JGLS commitment to a research intensive environment. Students can be involved in one or more of the research centres. International Collaborations, Student & Faculty Exchanges: International academic collaborations and partnerships are essential to promote global legal education. JGLS has developed partnerships with leading law schools worldwide. JGLS through these academic collaborations has carved out successful student exchange programmes with law schools, which includes Cornell Law School, Ithaca, USA; Michigan Law School, Michigan, USA; Indiana University Bloomington, Maurer School of Law, USA (with scholarship to JGLS student); University of California, Davis School of Law, USA; University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, Tucson, USA; York University, Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, Canada; Queen’s University Faculty of Law, Canada (with scholarship to JGLS student); Bucerius Law School, Hamburg, Germany; International University College, Turin, Italy (with scholarship to JGLS student); FGV, Sao Paulo, Brazil and City University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law, Hong Kong amongst others. Double Degree Programmes: JGLS has inked historic MOUs with prominent American universities to establish dual degree programmes. Through these programmes, students will be able to earn an LL.B. or a B.A., LL.B. from JGLS and a J.D. from the partner American University, in as much as two years less time than it would otherwise take, if they were to pursue these degrees sequentially. This reduction of two years does not in any way affect the rigorousness of the course, and students get two separate degrees of LL.B. and J.D. in four years (and B.A., LL.B. and J.D. in six years). This is done through extended exchange frameworks and credit transfers. The two universities with which we have this arrangement have also offered substantial scholarship to the first batch of JGLS students who have already gone to pursue their J.D. programme. The law schools are Indiana University Bloomington Maurer School of Law and University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. Career Development and Placement Division: JGLS has established a Career Development and Placement Division with a view to providing career opportunities to students and graduates of JGLS. JGLS has signed Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) and entered into academic partnerships with several reputed International and Indian law firms including: White and Case, Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co, AZB & Partners, FoxMandal Little, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, Vaish Associates Advocates, Nishith Desai Associates, Khaitan & Co., Economic Law Practice. The purpose is to develop knowledge based partnerships and interaction with law firms and to facilitate internships and placements for JGLS students and graduates. JGLS Students have been placed for their internships across Indian and International Law Firms; Companies and Statutory Bodies; International Agencies and NonGovernmental Organizations; Judiciary and Research Institutions and Law Offices and Chambers of leading Advocates. Scholarships, Fellowships and Fee Concessions: JGLS recognizes the fact that affording quality higher education in law may not be easy for many prospective students. The School is therefore committed to selecting students for a substantial number of scholarships in various forms, both on merit and need basis.
