CALENDAR

The School Excellence Framework captures substantial data about school targets and achievements. In the area of attendance, the school sits in the ‘Sustaining and Growing’ band, with an upward trend in improving the overall rate of 87%. This figure includes the small number of students with chronic attendance concerns and skews it down, but, unfortunately, there is also another small group of students whose attendance is below expectations. Whilst attendance at school is compulsory until the age of 17 (or until a student has completed Year 10 and then goes into a training course, employment or a trade), we want students and their families to value education for its own sake and see the importance of having excellent attendance patterns.

Tuesday Mar 22

- Year 7 Great Aussie Bush Camp - Year 12 half yearly exams

Wednesday March 23

- Sydney Tower Dining Tour - Year 7 Great Aussie Bush Camp - Year 12 half yearly exams

When students are consistently absent or late for no justifiable reason, then they are missing important learning experiences. Just 5 days a term adds up to missing one whole term over 2 years. As you can see, this is quite significant.

Thursday March 24

- Year 12 half yearly exams

In an effort to support students who have poor attendance, Kariong Mountains High School will be adding to its current monitoring processes by having initial interviews with students who have less than 85% attendance. The purpose of these interviews will be to determine if there are any strategies that can be put into place to help improve attendance. If a continuing poor pattern of attendance persists, parents/carers will be asked to attend a meeting to work with the school in turning a poor habit into a successful learning one.

Tuesday March 29

Congratulations to our sporting teams who have been moving through the rounds, displaying excellent sportsmanship and fair play, as well as achieving success in their initial games. We wish them all the best in future competition. Thank you to the coaches for volunteering their time to make these events possible.
