2014 At A Glance April Floods- Our county experienced record breaking flooding that left many Baldwin County citizens without their homes and vehicles. United Way of Baldwin County stepped in and deployed more than $25,000 of emergency aid to flood victims. Day of Caring- Our annual Day of caring was held in October. More than 150 volunteers deployed across Baldwin County and completed 10 service projects at area agencies and schools. Youth Board- The first ever United Way of Baldwin County Youth Board was formed in 2014 and consisted of 7 high school seniors from each public high school in Baldwin County. The Youth Board members conducted services projects throughout the school year with an effort to raise awareness about community service among their peers. Young Leaders Society (YLS)- The YLS continued to service Baldwin County with mutliple service projects throughout the year including stuffing 10,000 Easter eggs for the Lighthouse Egg Hunt, work days at Fairhope Rotary Youth Club and a Thanksgiving volunteer day at Bay Area Food Bank. Santa For Seniors- We launched our 1st Annual Santa For Seniors program in December with the goal of ensuring our elderly were thought of at Christmas. In 2014, the UWBC Board of Directors voted to award one-time partner grants in addition to the traditional program based annual funding. The recipients were:

United Medical Partnership For Children (UMPC) Children with no insurance are less likely to receive proper medical care which often leads to excessive absences from school. The United Medical Partnership for Children was formed more than 20 years ago and is a unique program provided by UWBC that enables under-insured and un-insured children in Baldwin County public schools to receive proper medical care. By keeping children healthy, we keep children in the classroom and on a pathway towards success.

CARE House CARE House was awarded the grant to build a medical exam room at their facility in Summerdale. Baldwin County did not have a facility conducting exams for children that are physically or sexually abused and,as a result, children had to travel to Mobile for an exam. The time delays in getting a child seen can be critical to an investigation. By providing this room at CAREHouse, children and families will have access to this service at no cost while having a passionate, caring and committed medical professional helping to reduce the anxiety felt by the child. The ideal goal for children who have been abused is to receive all of their services at one child friendly location. With the completion of the Medical Exam room, children in Baldwin County will have just that. Ecumenical Ministries Repair Baldwin, a collaborative project by Ecumenical Ministries and Habitat for Humanity, works to repair and replace damaged roofs of low-income homeowners in Baldwin County. UWBC was proud to partner with Repair Baldwin and provide funds to replace 7 roofs of low-income homeowners which will give them many more years of life to their home, thereby keeping them housed.
