pag S 1

-- It extends on a very wide band of six decades, high dynamic, medium power and moderate noise. -- It can be used in a lab as preamplifier, for example on spectrum analizers where the NF is about 25-30dB, it improves the S/N ratio of about 20 dB and allows to see signals under 0.1μV. -- It is suitable as medium power amplifier for instruments with +21dBm output or as high insulation buffer stage, or even as spare part for a final amplifier stage of RF generators and microwave sweep generators, due to its small size it can be put directly into the instrument . -- For EMI EMC measurements, as driver for other wide band power amplifiers. -- On optical fiber for fast modulations up to 12.5 Gb/s with 7.5Vpp output and small group delay. -- To amplify very fast pulses, where it is required a very small recovery time even with medium level signals. -- Frequency hopping / jamming , as antenna preamplifier, local oscillator amplifier, etc… -- For medical, nuclear and general physics loboratories. -- It has a single positive +15V 500mA power supply, the negative bias is not required. -- It has better performances than HP 83006A (that costs about 4K €), it is equal to HP 83017A (that costs about 5K €) and it is slightly worse than HP 83018A (that costs about 12K €), moreover it has no risks on start up because there is no need to supply the negative bias first and then the positive, in fact it is provided with an internal negative generator and a delay on the positive power supply.

MODEL 5828A ULTRA-BROADBAND AMPLIFIER PRODUCT SPECIFICATION

• • • • •

10 dB Gain 23 ps Risetime 14 GHz Bandwidth +12dBm Output 6.0 dB Noise Figure

This Ultra-Broadband Amplifier is an excellent choice for either pulse or RF applications. It offers a very attractive price/performance ratio. It is AC coupled and is extremely broadband, covering 5 1/2 decades from 50 kHz to 14 GHz. It has clean transient response and smooth gain vs. frequency response. This is a stable 50 Ω amplifier, and several can be connected in cascade for higher gains. The Model 5828A is ideal for 10 Gb/s systems.

Time Domain Pulse Response Input is 15 ps Risetime Step Measured with a PSPL Model 4015C, 15 ps Pulse Generator and an Agilent, 50 GHz digital sampling oscilloscope
