UFO®compact signal processing system

General

With the UFO®compact signal processing system, Kathrein offers an economical and technically well-proven headend to process analogue and digital radio and TV programmes.

The UFO®compact system can be quickly set up and preprogrammed by the antenna specialist before delivery to the installation site.

Installation of the headend is extremely simple.

All standard tuning parameters can be set using the control unit (available separately).

The various module carriers available are dimensioned to enhold either four, six or twelve signal processing modules and are completely pre-mounted and cabled. The control unit is simply connected to the processing module to be tuned using the attached connection cable. The processing modules only have to be inserted, connected and finally programmed as required.

The power supply unit integrated in the module carriers provides all necessary supply voltages. Power supply to the individual modules is undertaken using flexible power supply leads. LNB powering is carried out using a remote feed diplexer (please order separately).

LCN function Kathrein UFO®compact processing system also allows the use of the LCN (logical channel numbering) function.

New: LCN

The function has been included in all currently available transmodulators. Using this function cable network operators can also transmit programme list information as an LCN infomation as part of the NIT (network information table). After carrying out an LCN scan on an LCN capable receiver, the subscriber will have all COFDM or QAM modulated programmes distributed in the network saved on the DVB-T or DVB-C receiver in a pre-sorted sequence, as determined by the cable operator. Tedious programme sorting on the receiver is therefore not necessary anymore. The LCN function is available on both QAM and COFDM transmodulators, allowing use in both digital DVB-C and DVB-T cable networks. The LCN function will especially minimise service costs in networks serving hospitals and hotels and like organisations, which are already taking advantage of DVB-T and DVB-C distribution and often utilise flat-screen TVs with integrated digital receivers. To be able to cater for as many network subscribers as possible, Kathrein has based the LCN generation based on the Nordig Specification, Logical Channel Descriptor, Version 1. The LCN function will be integrated in Kathrein’s DVB-C set-top boxes UFC 960sw and UFC 662sw with the next software update.

UFO®compact signal processing system

The DVB-T receivers UFT 675sw and UFT 676sw are already LCN compatible. All future Kathrein DVB-C and DVB-T receivers will also be LCN compatible. The LCN function can be included in already installed UFO®compact system modules with a simple software update.

The new function is available for the following UFO®compact modules: Transmodulators DVB-S(2) – DVB-C:

UFO 371/TP, UFO 372/TP, UFO 373/MX (Version V 05 in all modules) Transmodulators DVB-S(2) – DVB-T:

UFO 331/TP, UFO 333/MX (each version V 02) Transmodulator DVB-T – DVB-C:

UFO 357/TP (Version V 02)

The latest software versions are available for downloading (free of charge) on Kathrein’s home page “http://www.kathrein.de” found under “Service - Software and Downloads”. One must use the de-multiplexer UFX 314 (or UFX 312) loaded with the software version V 05 and the UFO®compact configuration software USW 30 to programme the LCN information in the headend. The USW 30 UFO®compact configuration software must also be updated to the current stand version 3.6.

*) ASTRA 1 and EUTELSAT reception Due to the high transmission power, when using an antenna > 1.2 m in diameter the LNB could be overloaded (intermodulation products would then reduce the C/N) We recommend using the professional quatro feed system EAS 484 with antennas > 1.2 m in diameter.

Notes: If different analogue (PAL) modules are combined together in a system, then the lowest given S/N ratio in the above table for any one of the modules in this combination will apply as the overall valid S/N ratio. (e.g. 8 x UFM 340 and 8 x UFO 391 → the value given for the UFM 340 for 24 channels will be valid) The output signal and noise levels of QPSK-QAM and COFDM-QAM transmodulators are 10 dB (with 64 QAM) or 4 dB (with 256 QAM) lower than the signal levels of analogue signals, and therefore only insignificantly influence the signal to noise ratio of the analogue signals

UFO®compact signal processing system

UFG 412 Coupling with

IPTVcompact system

The Kathrein IPTVcompact system – modular - versatile - future secure

UFO®compact signal processing system

Modern interactive media have generally only been offered by larger telecommunication companies due to the high technical requirements involved. The Kathrein IPTVcompact system now offers the broad range of possibilities offered by such systems to subscribers connected to smaller, local distribution nets, including high-definition services. The extremely compact design coupled with automatic configuring of both server and software modules makes system installation very simple indeed. Ready-to-deploy systems can be easily commissioned - long and involved system planning and commissioning is no longer necessary. The system has been designed so that local operational activity can be kept to a minimum with no highly specialised service team needed on-site 24/7. The remote servicing over internet capability allows one to pass any support functions on to an external service support company. Kathrein’s IPTVcompact system can offer a suitable solution wherever the efficient distribution of TV, video and audio contents is required. The IPTVcompact system offers a simple and efficient possibility to transmit up to 80 TV and radio programmes over an IP-enabled network such as DSL via telephone cable, DOCSIS over coaxial cable, optical fibre or just over Ethernet LANs. Alternatively one can offer local signal feeds via an IP network to a remote headend, where IP streams are reconverted into standard RF signals (analogue PAL, FM, DVB-C/T). The innovative front-end server concept allows practically instantaneous channel change in unicast mode - as known from analogue TV. In contrast to services from first-generation IPTV systems, this ensures a greater user acceptance.

Modular IPTV headend for hotels, public buildings, business TV, campus and hospitality applications Easy-to-use, efficient means to transmit up to 80 individual TV programmes and an almost unlimited number of radio

programmes Processing of MPEG-2 MPTS: SDTV or HDTV, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoded To deliver live TV & radio, time-shifted TV, video-on-demand, network video recorder and interactive services to TV sets

via IP set-top boxes or PCs using the Desktop Media Client DMC Very fast channel zapping through use of Unicast, providing highest user ergonomy Suitable for structured cabling (CAT 5/6/7), providing glass fibre networks (Fttx), coaxial cable (DOCSIS) and

IPTVcompact system IPTV receivers

All-in-one solution: Kathrein’s IPTV receivers Kathrein offers an array of pre-configured receivers which allow users to almost instantaneously access programmes, interactive and video-on-demand services. All units are HD-compatible. Video-on-demand and timeshift TV can be viewed without use of a local hard disk. This provides one with unparalleled long-term feasibility ensuring that the end user need not purchase a new device whenever new services are available.
