PRISMA Space Frame LLC exists for more than 24 years in Dubai/UAE. Among its vast history the company has developed a quality management system, for better satisfaction of the needs of its clients and to improve the management system of the company. Prisma Metal Space Frame Structures A Space Frame is a structure of linear elements so arranged in a configuration that internal forces are transferred in a three dimensional manner. Space Frame can be produced in steel, aluminum and stainless steel. The System comprises 4 main elements namely: 1. 2. 3. 4.
Tubular members with welded endplates. Bolts and ball bearings. Inner plates. Ball‐joints.

Tubular members are circular hollow steel section and are the most efficient structural elements on a Compression Capacity to Weight Ratio. The Ball‐joints are solid steel spheres, produced from shaft material confirming to Steel grades C45 or equivalent.
Al Raha Beach Mall‐ Abu Dhabi Special Features of Prisma Space Frame Structures: Multiple use of ball joints, freedom of configuration (tailor made designs). Multiple layers possible. Hot dipped galvanizing after welding. No holes in the tube for inserting bolts (avoiding accumulation of water, dirt and debris). Dynamic loaded Structures possible. STRUCTURAL DESIGN Space frame components should be design for the most critical load combinations obtained from the structural analysis output. Design should be made in accordance with the relevant Sections of BS 5950: Part 1: 1990.

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS The space frame is to be analyzed as a three dimensional frame structure subjected to the following loads: 1. Dead Load Self weight of space frame Weight of Roofing Materials

2. Live Load Since the roof is accessible only for cleaning and maintenance, a live load of 0.6 KN / mm2 is considered. 3. Temperature Variation The structure is to be designed for a temperature variation of +/‐ 35 otherwise; the supports may be designed to allow for free expansion and contraction of the space frame. 4. Wind Loads Wind loads should be calculated in accordance with British Code CP3, Chapter V for a basic wind speed of 45 m / s. Appropriate load factors and load combinations are taken according t0 BS 5950: Part 1: 1990.

FABRICATION
Nodes should have a machined smooth surface and should be faced, drilled and tapped to accept connecting bolts with due allowance for sufficient bolt insertion length to develop the full tensile capacity of the bolts. Facing, drilling and tapping operations should be performed in a continuous operation by a Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines in order to maintain precision accuracy.

Welding: Welding is done by Third Party certified welders. We use low‐hydrogen, high strength electrodes for proper welding and safety. Holes are not allowed to be present in the space frame tubular members in order to maintain a pleasant appearance of the space frame. Corrosion Protection Galvanizing Space frame members: Hot dipped galvanized minimum thickness of galvanization layer is 85 microns. Hot‐dip galvanizing should be carried out after completion of all fabrication processes cutting, welding, drilling, etc. The Use of pre‐galvanized tubes is strictly not allowed because the weld locations will remain un protected. Threaded parts like Nodes, hex nuts & bolts are to be Electro galvanized with minimum thickness of 15 to 18 microns according to JIS H8610.

First Coat : “PENGUARD SPECIAL” Zink‐phosphate rich 2 coat epoxy Primer with min. dft. 85 microns. gives excellent adhesion on the galvanized surface Second Coat : “DURATHANE”/ “HARDTOP” which is the Polyurethane top coat min. dft. 35 microns, provides excellent gloss and color with ultra violet (U‐V) resistance.

1. Mild Steel Space Frame 1. Pipes: Are Steel tube with minimum yield strength of 240 N/mm2 5. Ball Joints, Hexagonal Nuts & Inner plates: are made of Steel Grade C‐45 with Minimum yield strength of 360 N/mm2. Node is made of solid spherical steel. 2. End plates are solid round Steel plates welded at each end of the tubular pipe and are of the same quality of the tube for reason of weld ability 3. Bolts: are securing the member between the endplate and the ball joints. Bolts of Grade 10.9 & 12.9 are used as required in the design. 4. Ball‐Bearing Interfacing the hex‐nut & bolt. Material is High Tension Chrome‐ Nickel Steel.

2. Aluminum Space Frame 1. Pipes: Extruded from Aluminum Alloy 6061‐T6 or the equivalent 6351.1‐T6 with minimum yield strength of 240 N/mm2 2. Ball joints (Nodes): Hexagonal Nuts and End Plates are produced out of Aluminum Alloy 6061‐T6 or the equivalent of 6351.1‐T6 solid shaft material with minimum yield strength of 240 N/mm2. The End Plates are threaded in pipes (No welding allowed) 3. Bolts: minimum grade 10.9 as required in the design. The bolt connection is completely concealed. No holes in the hexagonal nuts will be made.

INSTALLATION Space frame installation should be carried out by skilled personnel working to properly detailed and referenced assembly drawing. Installation crew should pay particular attention to ensure that bolts are tightened to the required torque levels. Care should also be taken to ensure that support releases are placed in the correct directions.

QUALITY CONTROL
The Quality Control Plan covers all activities of the company such as design, fabrication, galvanizing, painting & installation of the space frame. PRISMA can submit a copy of the Q.C. Manual with every tender, for consultant approval.
SKYLIGHT SPECIFICATIONS The skylight consists of a steel ring beam supported on a peripheral truss of variable height, as shown on the drawings, and a single layer pre‐tensioned high strength steel rods supporting the glass via a special fitting placed at inter‐section between tension rods.
Boomerang Office Bldg., Cairo The steel structure transfers the tension forces in the tension rods into a compression force absorbed by the steel ring beam. Tension rods should be pre‐tensioned to the appropriate level in order to keep deflections within acceptable limits. Glass fittings should be made of stainless steel grade 316 and should be capable of accommodating the deflection & rotation of glass without inducing additional stresses into the glass panels. The skylight manufacturer should submit evidence that he has designed, manufactured and installed at least one skylight of this type.

BOLTED GLAZING SYSTEM Prisma Bolted Glazing System comprises the following components: 1. Spider Arms : These arms are made from stainless steel material grade 304/316. The function of these arms is to fix the glass panels to the supporting structure. The arms are placed at either side of a steel fin plate welded to the supporting steel structure, as shown on attached details. 2. Glass Fittings : These fittings are machined from stainless steel material grade 316. The function of these fittings is to fix the glass panel onto the spider arms. The fittings penetrate the glass panels at each corner through 36 mm / 25 mm diameter holes. 3. Plastic Sleeves and Rubber Washers : The function of these components is to prevent contact between glass and stainless steel and to ensure water & air tightness.

Production Process: All components of Prisma Bolted Glazing System are machined on Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Machines in order to achieve maximum accuracy and minimum tolerances. Provision for Expansion and Contraction: Prisma Bolted Glazing System is designed to allow free expansion and contraction of glass due to temperature variation.
