He wanted this font as a way for people to recognise the London Underground. As of 2016, the Johnston font is over 100 years old. 3. It is most known for its use for the London Underground; some people call it “the London Underground font”. It is said to be very iconic to London. 4. In the 70’s, the Johnston font was in danger of being out of commission. A Japanese typographist Eiichi Kono was hired to save the font from that fate. 5. The font was carefully constructed based on writing techniques at the British Museum.

My custom font Sketches

This scan is the ealry sketches of my custom font. I decided to base mine on magnets as I thought it would be an interesting concept and I like technology things. The early draft did not include the numbers because I initially thought I would not have enough time to do so.

My custom font Weird Magnets The finished custom font. What was sucessful? I was able to finish it on time. I was even able to add numbers because of this. What was not sucessful Some of the letters came out way out of proportion. Due to this, I decided to use the weirdness as a theme to save on time. What would you do if you did it again? I would like to work on the proportions more. Additionally, I would add punctuations.

My custom font Design Sheet Character Sheet This is the finished design sheet. I used a magnetism theme to coincide with my custom font, which is based on magnets. I used the theme of magnets for the background too, with the yellow giving off an electric feel. I added two magnets to fit the theme and the blue lines to represent magnetism.

Typography Portrait The finished font portrait. What was sucessful? I really liked the lines that made up the portrait. It was fun to think of silly things to type while creating the lines. Some of the details were pretty nice too, but... What was not sucessful? It was difficult to think of what kind of details I wanted for my portrait, taking away time. It took a while to get the details right. What would you do if you did it again? I would try to plan what I want to do with the project. Then it would help me complete it faster.

Word Animation The animation project. This screenshot shows the song I used. What was successful? I enjoyed the creative aspect. It was enjoyable animating all the letters. What was not successful? The time limit. Animation takes a long time and there wasn’t enough time to finish the song. What would I do if I did it again? I would add more details to make it look nicer. Although maybe I could pick a shorter song, I wouldn’t want to do something I don’t enjoy and I’m not a music person.
