Tuscarora School District 100 West Seminary St. Mercersburg PA 17236 Tuscarora‐Chambersburg Summer Welding Camp June 15th through July 10th, 2015 Purpose: The Franklin County/Cumberland Valley is home to many manufacturers and fabricators who require highly skilled and trained welders and fitters. These companies are the backbone of our local economy and give Franklin County a strong presence in the international market place. But the pipeline of qualified welders and fitters is an ever shrinking group of highly skilled laborers, which puts the ability of our county to compete internationally in jeopardy. To start the process to fill this need the Tuscarora and Chambersburg School Districts are teaming up to create a summer welding camp to train 12 graduating seniors in MIG welding, blueprint reading, introductory fabricating skills, and general employment expectations of the welding/fabricating profession. This summer from June 15th to July 10th the two districts are working to hold a welding camp at James Buchanan High School from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm (5 days a week) but in order to make this camp a success we need your help. Myers Manufacturing of Upton has agreed to donate all of their scrap steel to be used for practice during the camp but we need many other types of support. The following list of items is some essentials we need to make this welding camp possible: From Manufacturing/Fabricating Partners: 120 Gas Cylinders for welding (estimated 10 per student) @ $45.00 each $5400.00 6 Spools of MIG wire @ $66.00 a spool $396.00 ¼” Steel Coupon Sets for AWS certification for the 12 students (maybe multiple sets for each student) ½” Steel Coupon Sets for AWS certification for the 12 students (maybe multiple sets for each student) 1” Steel Coupon Sets for AWS certification for the 12 students (maybe multiple sets for each student) AWS Welding Certification Specialist to certify for ¼”, ½”, and 1” welds 2 to 4 additional Lincoln MIG welders for the duration of camp Scrap steel for practice work Expert fabricators to assist and mentor the learning process (1 per day throughout the camp) Cost depends on cost to company to provide. Sites to host manufacturing field trips School will provide: Industrial Arts/Welding teacher Welding, Fabricating, and Blue Print Reading Curriculum based on recommendations from industry partners Facilities 4 MIG welders Welding Jackets, MIG Gloves, Welding Helmets, Ear Protection, and classroom consumables
