She is also the cofounder of the A21 Campaign, an antihuman trafficking organization. Although touted as a women’s event, Caine speaks powerfully to everyone, and this event will be no exception. Tickets are available to registered delegates for only $10 and may be purchased upon registering for the International General Assembly on Level 2 of the Music City Center. Attendance is also open to guests not registered for the Assembly at a cost of $25. u

Nominations, Agenda Await . . . —continued from page 1

second assistant general overseer and served until the International General Assembly of 2012 when he was elected general overseer. Church of God polity states that persons elected to the International Executive Committee are eligible to serve a total of eight years. Also elected in 2008 were David M. Griffis and Wallace J. Sibley. Griffis first came on as third assistant general overseer, served four years, and was elevated to first assistant in 2012. Sibley was elected secretary general, and in 2012, he became third assistant general overseer. Like Williams, tenure limitation policies affect both Griffis and Sibley, and they will step aside after eight years of service on the International Executive Committee. In Youth and Discipleship, Gary Lewis will step aside after four years as director and the four previous years as assistant director. Then, in World Missions, Timothy M. Hill will complete his tenure as director after four years of service, having been elected in 2012. Also open will be the assistant director positions in both of these offices. While the above positions are nominations taken to the International General Assembly this Friday, the International General Council will elect the Council of Eighteen. This group combines with the five members of the International Executive Committee to form

Special Orders of the Day Begin This Morning Five, “Special Orders of the Day” will be part of the official agenda of the International General Council, which begins this morning in the Grand Ballroom (Level 4) of the Music City Center. Two years ago at the 2014 International General Assembly in Orlando, Florida, Pentecostal Theological Seminary professors Dr. Hollis Gause and Dr. French Arrington delivered powerful special orders of the day. General Overseer Mark Williams will kick off the special order series with a “State of the Church” address this morning. It will be the first item of business on the International General Council’s agenda today. This will be Williams’ second such address, his first being delivered at the 2014 International General Assembly.

Of the 18 positions, 11 will be completing the second of two, two-year tenures. Completing their service on the Council of Eighteen and therefore not eligible for reelection this week will be Kevin Wallace, David Ramírez, Bryan Cutshall, Víctor Pagán, Thomas Madden, Oliver McMahan, William Isaacs, Dwight Allen, Niko Njotorahardjo, Chris Moody, and David Cooper. Following a review of the schedule and committees, the first item on the agenda this morning is a State of the Church address by General Overseer Williams. Nomination of the members of the International Executive Committee, and director and assistant director of both Youth and Discipleship and World Missions will take place next, followed by the election of the Council of Eighteen. Items being presented for discussion include consideration of opening up membership in the International General Council to ordained ministers at least 25 years of age and older. This motion seeks to . . . affirm the value of a new generation of ministers by giving them voice and vote in shaping the future mission, vision, and core values of the Church of God. It also expands the International General Council to include ordained women, whose anointed insights and spiritual discernment are much needed in addressing the growing complexity of fulfilling the Great Commission.

Also up for consideration is lengthening the tenure of state and regional overseers from 12 to 16 years. The rationale presented for this proposal states: It has been clearly demonstrated that longevity in leadership roles provides for a more consistent vision, greater accountability, and better stability in an organization. Increasing the state overseer’s tenure from 12 years to 16 years allows for longer tenures in states, particularly when an overseer has a state financially stable, moving in a positive direction, and has the overwhelming support of his leadership team and the ministers.

The agenda goes on to state that . . . after a detailed review by the International Executive Council of the meaning and usage of the term ‘bishop,’ further study needs to be done that will better address whether it is necessary to change the current nomenclature in order to clarify and fulfill the intent of the International General Council with respect to the designation of the ministerial rank in the Church of God.

Along with this, the International General Council will also consider revising ordained bishop qualifications. The detailed agenda is available for review or download at www.churchofgod.org or through registration, which is required for participation in events and activities at the 76th International General Assembly. On Wednesday, two special orders will take place, starting with Dr. Tony Evans in the morning session. Evans is a Dallas-based pastor, speaker, author, and widely-syndicated radio and television broadcaster. He will address the topic, “Great Commission and Urban Evangelism.”

A star-studded musical spectacle—including the Gaither Vocal Band, Voices of Lee, Christ Church Choir, and Goodman Revival— was celebrated with nearly 2,000 worshipers. The World Missions awards were made on Monday evening to local churches and states for their support of foreign missions. Under the theme, “Harvest at the Speed of Favor,” state administrative bishops and pastors were recognized for their financial giving while the headlining musicians led the celebration.

Heritage Exhibit Features Global Church By David G. Roebuck

Having migrated from Mexico to the United States, Maria Atkinson returned to her homeland to establish churches that came into the Church of God in 1932. Her story and many others are part of the “To the Ends of the Earth” Heritage Exhibit in the exhibit hall.

The Church of God Heritage Exhibit titled, “To the Ends of the Earth,” tells the story of the global Church of God with attention to how God has used missions and migration to reach a global harvest. The exhibit begins with the simple truth that for Christians this world is not our home. Realizing we are just passing through, our heart and eyes look for the Second Coming of Jesus, the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, and the New Jerusalem. Until that time, Jesus has commissioned the church to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. In November 1909, Bahamian Edmond Barr and his Georgia-born wife, Rebecca, sailed from Miami to Nassau in the Bahamas. Edmond had immigrated to Florida seeking employment when he met and married Rebecca. They joined the Church of God, and General Overseer A. J. Tomlinson credentialed them as evangelists on May 31, 1909. The Barrs realized the importance of taking the Pentecostal message to Edmond’s homeland, and retired minister Robert Evans, along with his wife, Ida, and the young Carl Padgett, joined them two months later. This first international ministry team was multinational with citizens of the USA and the Bahamas; it was multiracial with persons of both African and European descent; it was multigenerational with mature and young participants; and it included female and male ministers. Now 106 years later, the Church of God is ministering in 183 countries and territories of the world. Like the Barrs and those who joined them, missionaries are an essential force in taking the gospel to other cultures, and Church of God missionaries from outside the United States are increasingly part of that force. Immigrants are also a significant means by which the gospel travels to new territories. Often leaving their homeland for economic, political, and safety reasons, Christian immigrants frequently bring a fresh religious vitality to their new place of residence. Likewise, immigrants who do not know Christ may be more receptive to the gospel in their new homes. In order to reach the whole world, the Church of God is organizationally arranged in six distinct geographical regions that the Heritage Exhibit explores: (1) the USA and Canada; (2) the Caribbean; (3) Latin America; (4) Europe, Eurasia, Middle East; (5) Africa; and (6) Asia/Pacific. Using this organizational arrangement, “To the Ends of the Earth” reveals the many ways the Church of God has expanded from a small restoration movement in southeast Tennessee to a great denomination with a global mission. Visitors can tour the exhibit during regular exhibit hall hours. The Church of God Historical Commission and the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center produced “To the Ends of the Earth” with the support of the International Executive Committee. u

Music City Center Unlike Any Previous Assembly Venue As delegates stream into Nashville from all parts of the world, newcomers and veteran Assembly attendees will find the venue of the 76th International General Assembly of the Church of God unique and with modern features to make the gathering one of the most enjoyable and productive in years. The Music City Center is a brand-new convention center which opened in 2014 in the heart of downtown Nashville. Comparing it with the Orange County Convention Center, the venue of the last three Assemblies in Orlando, the MCC has four levels of meeting space with enough attached, covered parking to accommodate all delegates. For those staying in nearby hotels, the MCC’s location is strategically located where adequate hotel space is no more than a five-block walk. “Besides being equipped with the latest technology and furnishings, the Music City Center has several features that make it unique to Nashville,” said Kevin Brooks, a member of the International General Assembly Cabinet, who also serves as a representative in the Tennessee State House. “The four levels we are using this week, starting with the Grand Ballroom at level four down, are in the shape

of a guitar. Over the course of several months, it was exciting to observe this building rise out of the ground. We (Church of God) were one of the first to secure the MCC before it even opened. It is now booked all the way through 2020.” Once inside the MCC, the four primary gathering halls on the third level (Halls A-D), offer thousands of square feet of floor space to allow for an expansive exhibit area (Hall A) and a worship venue (Halls B and C) with enough room to shift seating at an angle, offering a premium view for all delegates. The MCC is equipped with the latest “plug-in” technology, where projection and audio can offer the best experience possible. For the first time in recent history, the worship venue and the International General Council locations will be in separate areas. While still in the MCC, the Ordained Bishops (General) Council will gather on the fourth level for their sessions, which begin this morning at 8:30 a.m. This allows for the worship venue to be available for other functions, notably the women’s service, which will be

held tonight in the worship venue, while the International General Council continues in session. The International General Council location has adequate seating for both the ordained bishops and delegates wishing to observe the business proceedings. Other innovations of the MCC include the space and ability to provide an expanded food service in the exhibit area through mobile food carts that can be assembled together. All this week, there will be several food carts onsite offering a variety of meal options between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Food trucks, which have become popular in large cities, will be part of the outdoor concert, “Throwback Thursday,” later this week on 5th Street between the MCC and Omni Hotel. u

Sandra Kay Williams, Una Mujer con Visión del Reino Por Déborah E. Ortiz

La Rev. Sandra Kay Williams es la directora internacional de Mujeres de la Iglesia de Dios y esposa del actual obispo presidente, Dr. Mark L. Williams, con quien tiene dos hijos. Su trabajo con Discipulado de Mujeres incluye la planificación de la conferencia internacional, las actividades dedicadas a las mujeres durante la Asamblea General Internacional, así como las reuniones de las directoras regionales. Además, está involucrada en varios ministerios de acción social y otras causas ministeriales. Como si fuera poco, es una predicadora, cantante y mujer de oración quien participa en eventos internacionales. Todos los martes se reúne a las 6:30 a. m. con su propio grupo de oración y estudio bíblico a interceder por los ministros y las ministras. La pastora Williams ha tomado en serio su carga por las ministras y mujeres de la Iglesia de Dios. De hecho, los miércoles se reúne con un grupo de alumnas de la Universidad de Lee para orientarlas y apoyarlas en su búsqueda de la voluntad de Dios. Ahora que culmina sus labores al frente de la denominación, hemos querido conversar con ella sobre esta experiencia y cómo ha cambiado su vida y a la Iglesia de Dios. Muchas mujeres se han sentido muy alentadas por la manera en que usted ha desarrollado su llamado y pasiones ministeriales. ¿Cómo su ministerio ha cambiado su propia percepción de los ministerios de la mujer y sus posibilidades? Gracias por el privilegio de compartir con sus lectores. No creo que mi percepción haya cambiado necesariamente, pero de verdad ha sido reforzada. Desgraciadamente todavía existe una gran división en el Reino sobre el lugar de la mujer en el ministerio. Afortunadamente, somos parte de la tradición pentecostal, la cual históricamente ha incluido a las mujeres, a diferencia de nuestro hermanos calvinistas y Neo-reformados. El Señor Jesús no les impone límites a las mujeres en el ministerio, por lo que las posibilidades son infinitas en cuanto a cómo usará a las que respondan afirmativamente a su llamado e instrucciones (Lucas 8: 2-3; Gálatas 3: 28). He tenido la oportunidad de estar en reuniones ecuménicas de la Iglesia alrededor del mundo con sus múltiples sabores y asociaciones confesionales y he encontrado que la familia de Dios es más grande que mi tribu. Mientras que muchas estructuras eclesiásticas tienden a relegar a las mujeres a un estado secundario dentro del Reino de Dios, ellas están asaltando las puertas de los infiernos y viendo a Dios moverse de una manera sin precedentes.

Durante su término como Directora Internacional de la Mujer, Discipulado de Mujeres ha promovido varias causas sociales, las cuales van desde los niños restavek en Haití a los rescatados de la trata de esclavos en la India. ¿Cómo su compromiso con estas causas la ha desafiado personalmente? Me he sentido desafiada a estar más informada, educada y activa en hablar a favor de aquellos que tienden a ser ignorados y aislados. A la Iglesia le ha sido demasiado fácil el tornar la cabeza hacia otro lado y culpar a las mujeres y los niños, como si de alguna manera se merecieran su destino.

Como predicadora ha participado en diferentes eventos con las mujeres hispanas de la IDD tanto en los Estados Unidos como en el extranjero. ¿Qué ha aprendido de ellas? He aprendido que mis hermanas hispanas son apasionadas, trabajadoras, comprometidas, de oración; son adoradoras e intercesoras. Las mujeres hispanas son audaces, informadas, buscadoras de la educación superior y les encanta reunirse. Son una gran fuerza que el enemigo debe temer porque su amor y temor de Dios son bien intensos. Mi amor por el español y sus hablantes no es un secreto. Las amo y respeto y ha sido un privilegio que me hayan incluido en sus eventos y vidas. Según varias fuentes que he leído, las iglesias de habla hispana están siendo plantadas y creciendo con mayor rapidez que otros grupos. Este verano, Austin, nuestro hijo mayor, ha estado asistiendo a la Iglesia de Dios El Shaddai, en Cleveland, Tennessee, en donde está enseñando a los jóvenes. Los pastores Camilo y Lupita Rocío y su congregación se apoderaron de un salón de tatuajes y la iglesia está creciendo como loco. El Centro Dixon de Investigación Pentecostal tiene una exhibición acerca de los inmigrantes y la obra misionera de María Atkinson. Vale la pena que pasen a verla. ¿De qué manera las mujeres de la iglesia de Dios podrían contribuir a la unidad de toda la iglesia? Cuando la mujer tome su lugar legítimo en el liderazgo y comparta sin inhibiciones sus ideas bíblicas, cuando sus aportaciones espirituales sean recibidas y afirmadas, entonces el cuerpo funcionará como Jesús quiso en unidad, crecimiento y salud: «De quien todo el cuerpo, bien concertado y unido entre sí por todas las coyunturas que se ayudan mutuamente, según la actividad propia de cada miembro,

Describa las formas en que la Iglesia podría ampliar su participación y compromiso con la justicia social. He recibido muchos correos electrónicos y contactos de personas de la Iglesia de Dios de alrededor de la nación y el mundo que han sentido la carga y la visión de ver libres a los cautivos libres. Muchos de estos ministerios llevan muchísimos años en las trincheras, trabajando en burdeles y lugares de dudosa reputación para ofrecer amor, información y ayuda a los que son usados y abusados para la gratificación sexual y el lucro de otros. Hay organizaciones y ministerios como el de Campaña A21 (Christine Caine), la Fundación Libertad Restavek, Desencadenado, El Refugio (Bruce Deel en Atlanta), Amor Redentor (Lifehouse IDD en Carlisle, PA), el Proyecto de Sión (RPC en Chattanooga), por nombrar algunos. Las iglesias están construyendo albergues, ofreciendo adiestramientos vocacionales y ayuda terapéutica a los emancipados. Una iglesia más pequeña puede ayudar preparando bolsas con artículos de higiene personal y un número de teléfono o sitio web. Inviten a una persona que venga a concienciarles para que identifiquen en sus zonas a las personas que estén en riesgo. Jesús no pasaría por alto a quien estuviese herido y en cautiverio; Él se propondría ministrarles. Usted también ha trabajado en una serie de videos, donde se entrevista a mujeres diferentes sobre su trabajo para la iglesia y sociedad. ¿Por qué cree es importante el compartir estos testimonios con la iglesia? Apocalipsis 12: 11 nos dice que somos vencedores cuando compartimos nuestro testimonio. Cuando vemos a Dios trabajando en las vidas que se le han rendido, nos llenamos de energía y ánimo. Todos los miembros de 16 años en adelante y ministros de la Iglesia de Dios, presentes y registrados en la Asamblea General Internacional, constituirán su cuerpo con derecho al voto». Quiero destacar a las mujeres cristianas que Dios está utilizando para edificar su Reino. Muchas mujeres jóvenes que están llamadas a la predicación a veces no saben cómo cumplir sus llamamientos. ¿Qué consejos podría darles acerca de seguir el llamado de Dios? El primer paso es decir como Isaías en el capítulo 6,8, «Heme aquí, envíame a mí». Ora, ora y ora más, mientras que estudias las Escrituras como si tu vida dependiera de ello. He encontrado que no hace falta que una se promueva a sí misma. Si Dios te ha llamado, él abrirá las puertas de oportunidades para la formación y el ministerio. Busca mentoras con carácter piadoso que hayan recorrido el camino ministerial durante al menos quince años y que estén dispuestas a revelar sus cicatrices espirituales. Ellas pueden ayudarte a evitar los peligros y las trampas que podrían sabotearte o desanimarte en el ministerio. Pasa tiempo con una abuela en el Señor que te aconseje sabiamente y cubra con su oración. Y en términos prácticos, comunícate con la oficina regional/estatal e inscríbete en el CAMS, PMS y comienza el proceso de credenciales con la Iglesia de Dios. La División de Educación tiene un proceso de ordenación para las mujeres que te enriquecerá y preparará para lo que está por delante. Usted quie-

Hoy Comienzan las Órdenes Especiales del Día Como parte de la AGI desde hoy comenzará la primera de las ordenes especiales del día, en el Gran Salón (nivel 4) del Music City Center. Hace dos años atrás, durante la asamblea celebrada en la ciudad de Orlando, Floriada, los profesores del Seminario Teológico Pentecostal, el fallecido Dr. Hollis Gause y el Dr. French L. Arrington, fueron los exponentes especiales. El supervisor general, Dr. Mark L. Williams, abrirá las sesiones con un mensaje sobre el estado de la denominación. Su discurso se convierte en el primer punto de la agenda del Concilio General Internacional. Su primer mensaje de estado fue presentado ante el Concilio General Internacional de 2014.

Ha sido un privilegio y un honor servir a la Iglesia de Dios en este corto plazo como directora internacional de la mujer. He hecho tantas amistades y recuerdos que llevaré en mi corazón por la eternidad. Sin embargo, estoy muy emocionada con el futuro y lo que Dios quiere para nuestra familia. A donde me lleve lo seguiré. Entraré por las puertas que abra. Voy a seguir orando, estudiando, adorando, predicando, enseñando, cantando, dirigiendo y sirviendo a la gente que Dios ponga en mi camino.
