Preface This document functions as a «dictionary» translating names from the NorLAG telephone interview and questionnaire into the harmonized variable names of «NorLAG panel easy-to-use» (version 4). The variable names in this user-friendly data file have been changed from their original interview/questionnaire names, since the variable names from both waves of data collection (NorLAG1 and NorLAG2) have been harmonized. This implies that questions being posed in the same manner in both waves have been given identical variable names, only separated with the numbers «_1» or «_2» at the end of the name that indicates wave. The harmonized variable names are in English and descriptive for their topic (e.g. variables name about work and retirement starts with «work»). These variable names also contain information that refers to method of data collection. The letter «t» at the end of the variable name indicates that the variable information is collected from the telephone interview (e.g. workt), while variables from the postal questionnaire are marked with a «p» (e.g. workp). Variables with information collected from administrative registers are marked with an «r» (e.g. «regionr» that classifies in which part of the country the respondent is residing). The harmonized variable names make it easier to identify which data that from both waves that are valid for the panel sample).
