From the President We are all so very busy: summer is over, fall cleaning, fall decorations, many went to SOS, some of us had to deal with Hurricane Matthew, and some of us are dealing with physical and emotional issues. Remember we all have the DC Hand Dance Club, as I have said before, our “soft place to fall.” We can venture out to a monthly dance or one of our weekly venues and visit with our dance friends. Talk, dance, and spend time on the “up” side of life – one of the many things that make this club MORE than just a dance club. We are lucky to have a supportive dance family. The Holiday season is just ahead; time to make your plans for our Halloween/Toy for Tots dance on November 5th and our Christmas dinner/dance on December 10th. . Don’t forget our New Year’s Eve Celebration at the DoubleTree Hotel, tell your friends. Your club works hard to put together these events and we ask that you support as many as you can. Last year our numbers were down for New Year’s Eve, if this trend continues, we might have to reconsider this event for next year. It is true that I do not see everyone regularly but I am in contact with the board members daily, I see the emails you send to the club and I talk with members frequently. I continue to monitor the daily business of the club and the weekly venues while managing our communication system and maintaining our website. As the Event Coordinator, I’m working on New Year’s Eve 2016 and Meet Me At The Beach, 2017. I am only a phone call or email away, do not hesitate to use either: 301-335-1151 or [email protected] Dance Today – Tomorrow is not Promised! Pam Vann

NOTES FROM MEMBERS The following notes are from members: Janice & Larry Peters had quite an adventure in Los Angeles on Monday, May 9 - - they were in the audience of the Dancing With The Stars live show – very close to dance floor and stage. Besides meeting dancers and one TV star, the most exciting time was right before the show began when the audience was invited to “dance” on the dance floor - - - which they did - - - DC Hand Dance style!!  An exciting and wonderful memory never to be forgotten. Joe and Sondra Riley will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 26, 2016... He says “I got her right out of the cradle!”

Our Cancer Awareness dance was a big success!! Attendance was excellent! We collected $334 for the American Cancer Society. We also donated the club’s share of the 50/50 which was $190.00. That made the amount collected equal $524.00! The DCHDC matched that amount which brought our donation to $1,048.00! Well done DCHDC!!

GUESS WHO? PLEASE Consider Becoming a Club “Guessed”—It’s EASY! If you would like to be “guessed” in our Newsletter’s “Guess Who” column, send a copy of a photo of yourself at a young age, along with your response to the following questions: (1) where you were born; (2) where you grew up; and (3) where you danced in your youth and early adult years. Mail or email to Linda Trader—103 Coronet Dr. Linthicum, MD 21090. If technology is your thing, scan & attach your photo and email it all to [email protected].

A lady goes to the bar on a cruise ship and orders a Scotch with two drops of water. As the bartender gives her the drink she says, "I'm on this cruise to celebrate my 80th birthday and it's today." The bartender says, "Well, since it's your birthday, I'll buy you a drink. In fact, this one is on me." As the woman finishes her drink, the woman to her right says, "I would like to buy you a drink, too." The old woman says, "Thank you. Bartender, I want a Scotch with two drops of water." "Coming up," says the bartender. As she finishes that drink, the man to her left says, "I would like to buy you one, too." The old woman says, "Thank you. Bartender, I want another Scotch with two drops of water." "Coming right up," the bartender says. As he gives her the drink, he says, "Ma'am, I'm dying of curiosity. Why the Scotch with only two drops of water?" The old woman replies;

They were all born on holidays!

"Sonny, when you're my age, you've learned how to hold your liquor. Holding your water, however, is a whole other issue.”
