Timmy Chapters Fundraising and Procurement 2011-2012 Ball State University Event Name

Bracelet Sales

We sold bracelets from Ecuador at various events and meetings around campus. This was a yearlong project that targeted many different groups of students and faculty. A letter, which contained information about Timmy, was sent to all faculty members at Ball State. We asked for donations as a way to help support our partners in Ecuador We hosted a two day medical supply drive at Marsh Grocery Store in Muncie. Student members worked shifts throughout the day and were able to advocate the Timmy organization

Rented out the basement bar of a local bar and sold tickets.

Sold tickets to a club downtown a friend had a connection with to gain 100% sales. ($500 for the night, had capacity for 300 tickets to be sold at $10 each)

We sold tickets for 5$ to an all you can eat Pasta dinner in one of our residence halls. (Purchased and used approximately 35lbs of pasta)

We arranged with a local Mexican restaurant to receive 25% of sales on an off night. We invested some of our initial money to purchase shirts with a specific Timmy logo. They cost roughly $5.50 each and were sold at $15

Butler University Event Name

Description

Store-front Donations Drive

We sit outside of a grocery store and hand out a list of needed medications, explain the Timmy Foundation, and ask them to donate anything that they can.

Trick or Treat for Timmy

During this event we travel door to door in neighborhoods surrounding Butler on or around Halloween and provide they them with a list of some of the medications that we need for our trip. We ask them to go to the store to pick up any items on the list they wish to donate, and we come a week later to pick them up; making it easy and hassle free.

One Child at a Time Banquet

The Butler chapter hosted its 3rd annual "One Child at a Time" banquet and silent auction at The ARTBOX in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday, March 26th.

Concessions

We worked the concession stands a few times this year for Butler basketball games.

A great way to secure donations. 2.Its festive and a fun way to get to know other Timmy members 3. Good publicity for Timmy in the community. We provide background information about the foundation and contact info so people know where to look if they would like to get involved or learn more. 1. We wore Timmy Tshirts and people would often ask us about Timmy. 3. The payoff was wellworth the time we put into it

Apple Bee’s Pancake Breakfast

$7 tickets were sold to attend an “all you can eat” pancake breakfast at Apple Bee’s. Timmy members would serve and bus tables for the restaurant. All proceeds would go to Timmy.

1. It was a great idea for our first fundraiser of the year. 2. All proceeds would have come to Timmy.

1. The event was from 7am-10:30am on the Saturday of Halloween weekend. 2. Barely any tickets sold. 3. Had to cancel the event.

Chili’s Fundraiser

Fliers were handed out around campus and via email to CSU students, in the hopes that they would bring the flier with them to Chili’s on the fundraising night. 10%

Fuzzy’s Fundraiser

Fliers were handed out around campus and via email to CSU students, in the hopes that they would bring the flier with them to Fuzzy’s Taco Shop on our fundraising night. 10% of the bill would go to Timmy. We targeted a sorority and a fraternity for the event.

Panda Express Fundraiser

Fliers were handed out on campus for students to bring with them to Panda Express, for Timmy to receive 10% of the bill. This Panda Express is in our student center.

Near Halloween, we go door-todoor distributing paper bags with fliers asking for medicine donations. We ask that participants leave the filled bags on their porches the next Saturday at which time we pick them up. We require that each member write ten letters to friends and family spreading the word about Timmy as well as requesting donations.

This even included a hookah lounge, a bar for those over 21 and a dance floor at a local hotel. We attempted to advertise to the student body. We stood out front of local grocery stores asking those who go into the store to donate purchased medicine. We would provide a sheet to each donator containing an explanation of Timmy and a list of medicines we need.

Football Tailgating

On the days of football games, members went around to tailgating fans explaining what Timmy Global Health is and if they would be willing to donate.

Left-Right-Tim Comedy event

A local, student based improve comedy group performed a show with all processed benefiting Timmy Global Health

Coffee for a Cause

A night at the local coffee shop with live music where 10% of the proceeds from both the coffee shop and the pub were donated to Timmy Global Health.

1. Needed better publicity and choice of date (low traffic in the coffee shop because of a basketball game occurring simultaneously). 2. Did not bring in very much money.

Timmy 3v3 soccer tournament

A 3v3 soccer tournament held in the football stadium as a kickoff to the intramural 3v3 season. Unfortunately was rained out and not rescheduled.

1. Low effort 2. Were able to reach out to the town of Davidson and not just the student body 3. Fostered a good relationship with the owners of the coffee shop, which hopefully will lead to more fundraisers in the future 1. We used the email and mailing addresses of the Timmy body to send donation letters and emails. This year we tried electronic donations as well. We held our annual concert with all proceeds going towards our fundraising efforts. There were two bands and a $5 cover charge for the venue.

We held a concert at a fraternity that featured an acapella group.

Tour de Timmy

We held an indoor cycle fit studio and charged $10 for a thirty minute lesson. We had four lessons throughout the day.

1. A very popular even among sorority girls. 2. We were able to spread awareness to a large, attentive crowd. 1. We almost were at capacity in most of the classes. 2. People really enjoyed the classes (good instructors).

IU Timmy held the first 5k run and 1 mile walk in Bloomington.

We held our annual benefit dinner which covered the year and the trip to Guatemala.

1. We made $5,000 on this event. 2. The guests had a very good time. 3. The pledge cards were very successful.

1. We held it on Easter weekend so attendance wasn’t as high as it could have been. 1. This was a disaster and it probably won’t happen again. 2. $40 is too expensive for a college student and no parent is going to make the trip to IU for a golf scrambler. 1. We need to improve upon attendance beyond just trip parents.

Description We set up a concession stand for one of our home football games this year (Air Force). We had many volunteers sign up to take hour shifts.

Babysitting Event

We held a babysitting event for the faculty and staff of Notre Dame on Valentine’s Day weekend.

Vitamin Guessing Game

We set up a table over a course of 2 nights in our Student Center for a guessing game. We filled a jar full of vitamins and the closest guess won a gift card.

1. This year, we had 2 other 5Ks the same weekend. We need to make the 5K unique and avoid conflicts. 2. Lots of student groups have 5Ks 3. We need to preregister to commit runners to attend the event.

This spring benefit dinner attracts students, faculty and family members. This is a huge advocacy and fundraising event. The auction supplements the income.

We have to look for auction items in Chicago and Indianapolis 4. Not many non-students present. We need more professors and community members to attend.

Ship of Fools + Crazy Monkeys Comedy show

Arranged comedy show to attract students and members from the community. This sort of co sponsorship is a good way to spread Timmy’s name. Asked for a donations at the end of the show and gave a speech about Timmy at the beginning. Invite lots of students to attend a “skip-a-meal,” in which they can eat at a restaurant and a portion of their purchase is donated to Timmy.

1. Easy to plan. Quick, efficient fundraiser. 2. Opportunity to talk to other students and alumni. Raises awareness about Timmy. 3. Encourages chapter member involvement. 1. Good advocacy event to get the community involved. 2. Easy and fun way to acquire lots of medicine. 3. Requires chapter members to stay involved. 1. Easy to send out. 2. 1. Other groups are canning at the same time. The key is to get out early. 2. Sometimes people are rude (rarely, but it happens)

1. We aren’t allowed to go to Payless (which was our best store) anymore because a customer filed a complaint. Have to be careful to follow store rules meticulously.

1. Couldn’t organize the event effectively. 2. Very few members sent letters out. Have to figure out a way to change this. 1. Unless you ask for a small, mandatory donation, very few people donate (despite the attendance).
