There will be plenty of food to choose from, whether you fancy a burger from Shakey’s Diner or a blast from the past from What the Dickens. Drinks will be provided by local brewery pub Beer Rebellion as well as cocktails served from a vintage VW camper van by the aptly named Beetle Juice guys. Families will find there is more than enough to keep them occupied with storytelling, face painting, lessons on how to make your very own crafts from Do and Play. Plus look out for the return of the Dino Doctors as they venture back to Dinosaur Island (more information about show times on page 17). Film London’s Kino Van will also be showing heritage film from London’s Screen Archives in a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. 18

Sunday 28 June

Look out for Spectrum, an immersive gaming experience, at Vintage up the Palace on Sunday 28 June. We invite you to look through the Prism, where the light refracts the story of The Crystal Palace. A spectrum of possibilities, memories and wonders. Engulfed in flames and resurrected, the glass walls reflect the palace of past and illuminates the palace today. With the help of the London Metropolitan Archives, the Street Arts Academy have captured the light, the colours, the stories in a playful and interactive pop-up experience. What will you see?

About the project The festival has received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to support 20 local young people in research and archiving workshops at the London Metropolitan Archives. Led by their archivists and a youth arts practitioner from Emergency Exit Arts, they will then use their research to create a street arts performance to bring to the festival. Inspired by the 2014 festival project The Extreme Fans, this is a wonderful opportunity for young people from Crystal Palace to learn more about their own heritage, gain research skills and be part of the Street Arts Academy, developing their performance skills and self-confidence.
