About this document Intended readership This document is intended for end users installing Thomson Reuter Messenger for Windows.

In this document This document describes the machine pre-requisites needed to install and run Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows and the steps to perform the installation.

Chapter 1 Prerequisites

Chapter 1 Prerequisites Messenger must have access to the following URL, via port 443: https://collab.thomsonreuters.com/ This is typically done by the client’s IT team, once, for all the users at the site. Note that this is the only FQDN that needs to be routed to the Thomson Reuters data center, even if you have Yahoo! counterparts. (Yahoo! connectivity is handled by the Thomson Reuters server.)

The key prerequisites for installing and running Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows are shown below.

Windows XP – only 32 bits version is supported Windows 7 – Professional and Ultimate supported on both 32 and 64 bits; Home Premium edition is supported only on 64 bits

Chapter 2 Installing Messenger for Windows Installing Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows is a simple and straightforward process. Follow the steps below. 1. Go to the Thomson Reuters Software Downloads page at https://customers.reuters.com/a/support/technical/softwaredownload/default.aspx. a. In the Category dropdown, select “Thomson Reuters Messenger.”

b. In the Products dropdown, select “Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows.” c.

In the Version list, click on the Next button in the “Download” column.

d. Complete the Download Form and accept the Terms and Conditions. Click Continue to Download. e. In the next screen, click on the order status page link.

In the Download Status Page, select your location and click on the filename. When prompted, click on Save.

2. Navigate to the folder where you have saved the zip file and click on the Messenger setup .msi file. Click Run.

3. In the Setup Welcome screen, click Next.

4. If the .NET Framework 3.5 is not installed, a warning dialog will be displayed. You can choose to go to the Microsoft download page or exit the installer.

If you select Yes, you will be directed to the following screen.

5. Accept the default installation folder or enter a different location.

6. Click Next to confirm the installation.

7. You will see the progress of the installation until it is complete.

You can now start your Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows by clicking on the Messenger icon in the taskbar or going to Start -> All Programs -> Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows.

Modifying the Registry for MPLS Connectivity

After installing Thomson Reuters Messenger for Window, if MPLS connectivity is required, the registry must be modified as described below. 1. Exit Messenger for Windows. (If Messenger is running, the setting will be overwritten.) 2. Navigate to the folder where you have saved the zip file (see Step 1f on p. 7) and doubleclick on the the registry patch TRM_MPLS.reg. 3. The patch will run and change the registry by modifying the “URI” string in the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Thomson Reuters\Messenger for Windows] to the following value: •

4. Restart Messenger for Windows by clicking on the Messenger icon -> All Programs -> Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows.

If you uninstall and then reinstall Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows, you will need to reapply the MPLS patch.

Modifying the Registry to Restore Internet Connectivity

If you want to revert to Internet connectivity after having modified the registry for MPLS connectivity, the same value should be set as follows: 1. Exit Messenger for Windows. (If Messenger is running, the setting will be overwritten.) 2. Navigate to the folder where you have saved the zip file (see Step 1f on p. 7) and doubleclick on the the registry patch TRM_WWW.reg. 3. The patch will run and change the registry by modifying the “URI” string in the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Thomson Reuters\Messenger for Windows] to the following value: •

4. Restart Messenger for Windows by clicking on the Messenger icon -> All Programs -> Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows.

Chapter 3 Uninstalling Messenger for Windows Follow the steps below to uninstall Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows. 1. Go to Start menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. 2. The list of installed programs will be shown. You now can remove ‘Thomson Reuters Messenger for Windows’ from your computer. NOTE: If the application is running when you attempt to uninstall it, the program will be forced to close.
