Flashcards for many topics and activity sheets to practise vocabulary. £11 subscription for one year’s unlimited use. Watch spelling as it is an American website. http://bogglesworld.com/ An excellent website specifically for pupils with English as an additional language. Goes a step further than the above site in the level of activities. Well worth having a look: flashcards, crosswords, grammar activities, games etc…… Free. www.britishcouncil.org/kids Yet another site for pupils learning English. Excellent animated stories, alphabet & grammar activities. Good section called Story Maker (under ‘Get Writing’)where children can choose pictures for various elements of their story & then the programme writes their short story. They can then read it back & illustrate. Free. www.bbc.co.uk/schools You will already be familiar with the wealth of highly visual & interactive material for all areas of the curriculum. It has pictures and various activities for children’s stories and general language development. It is also free. www.enchantedlearning.com This is a well known site. It has many activities for various curriculum areas starting at a very basic level and building up. There is an excellent selection of mini books with clear pictures and opportunities for pupils to add or copy text below. Very useful for pupils with less English. www.sparklebox.co.uk This is an excellent site for visual timetables, duties boards, classroom labels and a wealth of visual resources for literacy and numeracy. As stories load, the children have a jigsaw puzzle to do, related to the story. They could print the screen and keep a copy of the completed puzzle & write something about it.

Stories are accompanied by animated pictures, text below and are read aloud. Children click when they are ready to move on.

Print & do activities

Story maker is under the ‘Get Writing’ tab. Children choose the type of story they want and then the different elements such as characters, setting and so on. When they have selected all the elements, the programme writes their story. They can then print the story and perhaps illustrate it.
