In particular, Isaiah’s vision of a parched land that blooms with abundant flowers holds a message for each of us. Too often we are just like that parched land. We can allow ourselves to become absorbed in the waves of consumerism that grip so many. We look for fulfillment in the things that money can buy. Unfortunately, this leaves us like parched land, thirsting for something that money can’t buy. This holy season has much to offer to quench our thirsts. In a word, this season offers hope. We are told that those who are ransomed by God will know joy and gladness. For them, sorrow and mourning will be no more. Let us place our hope in these promises.

Page Three 3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT (A) MATTHEW 11:2-11 Time run fast! The third SUNDAY of ADVENT is here! This is the SUNDAY of life-giving! An advertisement’s punch line says, “What’s in your wallet?” I would like to copy that as the punch line of today’s gospel, and paraphrase it this way, “What’s in your heart?” If your wallet keeps your money, credit cards, driver’s license, your heart protects your love and life, your hope and faith. If your wallet keeps your identification on earth, your heart possesses your identification in heaven. If your wallet keeps your material sustenance, your heart maintains your spiritual nourishment.

The heart’s ability to re-direct our focus on Christ is embedded in this encounter between John’s disciples with Jesus. John’s disciples asked Jesus: “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?” Their eyes were blind, and their hearts were confused. Jesus opened them by saying: “Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.” Jesus unwrapped to them the gifts of life through miracles: The blind was able to see, and was given sight and insight. A good sight brings a good insight. He had the eyes of Christ, and now he sees life in God’s view. The lame was able to walk, and given the energy to “walk the talk”. When he became a believer, he became God’s messenger. The lepers were cleansed, and were healed spiritually. They became wounded healers - living a reconciled and reconciling way of life. The deaf was able to hear, and became a good listener of the WORD of God. They became good evangelizers - in words and more so in deeds. The dead were raised to new life and became disciples – life-givers who are willing “to lay down their lives for one’s friends!” The poor were fed from every WORD that comes from the mouth of God! They became builders of a “Church where no one is so poor as to have nothing to give, and a Church where no one is so rich as to have nothing to receive”. For faith sharing, light the third candle of ADVENT and reflect on these questions: “What’s in your heart that you can pass on to others?” Is it love or hatred, joy or sadness, hope or despair, faith or doubt, life or death? Let us continue to prepare our hearts to become the birthplace of Jesus. God bless you all! Fr. Romy, MS

(Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God. For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, to confirm the promises to the patriarchs, but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles and sing praises to your name.)

..."The great and generous thoughts of Catholic heroism are conceived, or rather inspired, at the altar where the Adorable Sacrament reposes; there, depend upon it, in silent prayer the noble damsel in heart rejects the world and its vanities, and plights her troth to the Spouse of her chaste heart; there the young ecclesiastic, bowing in meditation calm and sweet, muses on the triumphs of his schoolmates over the swords and red -hot pincers of Tonquin, and resolves to share in their crown of martyrdom; there whatever is planned for the Church of God that requires zeal and persevering energy is matured and resolved." - A Victorian reflection from the writings of Cardinal Nicholas Patrick Wiseman (1802-1865) on the Blessed Sacrament & Catholic Heroism

Michael is front row 1st on the left Greetings, families of St. Peter and St. Paul parish! Just to keep the parishioners updated on my ministry, I'm currently serving the community of St. Anastasia in Fort Pierce, FL. We encounter the youth everyday by attending events, participating in the high school and middle school classrooms, and inviting them to events that the NET team puts on weekly. I have grown immensely in my faith, specifically in my relationship with the Lord. Thank you again for your support and prayers! Please continue to pray for me, as I continue to pray for all of you. RCIA - RITE Of CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Is God calling you to become Catholic? It begins with an awareness...or stirring in one’s heart for something more. It could be a curiosity or a sense of long for fulfillment. Maybe it’s God calling you to explore the life of faith, love, and justice within the community of the Catholic Church. The RCIA process offers an opportunity for you to learn and ask questions about the Catholic faith. It is primarily for the un-baptized, but also includes a special tract for those baptized in another faith tradition. We also invite inquiring Catholics to also come and join us for refreshers on what they learned as children. We meet all year round. Please come and join us Tuesday evenings from 7:30PM to 9:30PM in the Parish Library. For more information on the process, please call Danny or Vicki Centurioni at 909-987-7971

RCIA - Teaching Moments— What does the term “Hypostatic Union” mean ? The union of the divine nature of Christ as God with his human nature as man. Christ is true God and true man, and possesses two natures, one divine, and one human, without confusion. Although they are inseparably united, each nature retains its proper characteristics. Thus Christ, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity did not just assume the physical aspects of a human being while on earth, he actually became man, both in body and soul. The Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph # 469 says this: “The Church thus confesses that Jesus is inseparably true God and True man. He is truly the Son of God who, without ceasing to be God and Lord, became a man and our brother”.

Sat. Jan. 07 @ 9-11am (Advent Party)

Please join us for our January 7 gathering. We will be sharing a morning of "coffee, cupcakes and conversation" With a small panel of speakers uplifting each other as women of faith. We will also be getting new prayer sisters:) At Heart of Mary we gather for a morning of faith sharing & friendship!

For more info, please call Michelle Workman at (909) 297-0714 Marriage Moments: Be patient, brothers and sisters...Do not complain about one another." (James 5: 7-9). Preparation for Christmas can strain even the best relationships. Be gentle and patient with each other as you do the many tasks to prepare for Christmas.

Adapted for Children and Teens

Children (ages 7-12) and Teens (ages 13-17) who are interested in joining the Catholic Church are invited to participate in the RCIA adapted for Children and Teens. The goal is to provide a means of conversion suited to the student’s age and understanding, and to prepare them for the reception of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation). Parents and sponsors share a loving journey with the student’s by attending sessions with them and assisting them as they learn about Jesus and the Church, and ensuring that they experience a Catholic environment in the home. To participate more fully in this journey, we encouraged you to attend scheduled retreats, weekly Mass, special celebrations, and the Easter Liturgy. Our sessions begin in September and end in June.

Sessions held every Wed.6-7:30 pm. – (JPII, 2nd Fl)

Third Sunday of Advent Ministry to the Homebound, Sick & Elderly

Our Liturgy and celebration of the Eucharist continues after Mass, as our Ministers of Holy Communion bring the Eucharist to those who are unable to attend Mass with the Community. Trained and commissioned lay persons serve Holy Communion to those confined to their homes, facilities or hospitals. Our Ministers have a compassionate ear to listen, provide spiritual support and prayer. If you are unable to attend Mass and are in need of a Homebound Minister, or if you are aware of a parishioner who would like to receive Holy Communion, contact Debby Leonardo to arrange for weekly visits from our Homebound Ministry. To serve as a Sick & Homebound Minister, please contact Debby Leonardo, Pastoral Care, at 909-987-9312 x 302, for more information.

Sacrament of the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick is a Sacrament offered by the Church for healing in sickness. This sickness may be physical, mental or emotional. Anyone of any age can receive the Sacrament as often as needed, but not usually not less than a 3 month period. Only a priest can offer the Sacrament of the Sick. The Church will do everything possible, in case of an emergency. However, it may be difficult if it is “last minute”. May this be a reminder to take advantage of the healing Sacraments of the Church ~ For Sacrament of the Sick … Please contact the Parish Office at 909-987-9312 During hours the office is closed, call 909-532-3312

Military Photo Update If you have a family member actively serving our country and would like their picture included in the Military Frame of our Soldiers honoring our Men and Women for their service; please bring a photo of your Soldier to the Parish Office and fill out the Military Personnel Information Form. The Military information consists of their rank, stationed location, branch of service, address of soldier, along with Parish family contact. These photos provide the community with recognition of those parishioners and family members serving in the military. Many of our parishioners will keep the names and faces in their hearts and prayers, along with all of our Military Men and Women serving our country. Please contact Debby Leonardo for more information at 909-987-9312

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is in need of donations to keep the ministry active. The ministers purchase their own materials, which can be very costly. Donations or monetary donations, with Prayer Shawl Ministry noted, would be appreciated. These Prayer Shawls are created to be a comfort for those suffering and in need of healing. The Ministers pray throughout the making of the shawl or lap blanket, and then have the items blessed by our priests before delivering to the recipient. Prayer Shawl Ministers share their time, talent and service, as an act of prayer for healing, peace and God’s loving presence. Please bring your donations to Debby Leonardo, Pastoral Care, in the Parish Office. If there are any questions, please contact Anne Napolitano 909-935-9080. Thank you and May God Bless you for your support….
