COMPARISON OF ANIMAL AND PLANT TISSUE Every organism is capable of performing all vital functions such as respiration, ingestion, excretion and reproduction. In multicellular organisms, because of the increase in surface area, it is difficult for each cell to efficiently cope with the vast variety of the physiological needs of the organism. So cells group together with a common structure and to perform definite functions – forming tissues. The word tissue means to _________. Different types of tissue have different structures that are especially suited to their functions in both plants and animals.
ANIMAL TISSUE There are 4 types of tissues in animals. They all look different and perform different functions.
1. EPITHELIAL TISSUE Epithelial tissue is made of closelypacked cells arranged in flat sheets. 2. MUSCLE TISSUE

4. CONNECTIVE TISSUE Connective tissue is selfexplanatory; it strengthens, supports, protects, binds or connects cells and tissues. It consists of cells in an extracellular matrix that can range from a liquid (like blood) to mineral deposits (like bone). This system also acts as support, protection and absorption in the roots and stems, especially in young plants.
