Canton Marketplace Now Open Development brings 1,200 new jobs to area

O

ne of Sembler’s largest developments in Georgia, Canton Marketplace in Northeast Georgia, is now open and welcomes 13 major tenants: Bed Bath and Beyond; Best Buy; Books-A-Million; Dick’s Sporting Goods; Kohl’s; Lowe’s; Off Broadway; Office Max; PetsMart; Rack Room; SuperTarget; T.J. Maxx; and ULTA. Outparcel tenants include Chick-fil-A; Olive Garden; and SunTrust. The opening of Canton Marketplace also means that 1,200 new permanent jobs are being created – a boon for Northeast Georgia’s population and a major signal of growth for the City of Canton and Cherokee County.   “Sembler has done a great job with the development of Canton Marketplace,” says Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood. “All of us in Canton are excited about the job creation, the center’s excellent amenities and of course the increase in our tax base. It’s a win-win.”   The 800,000 square foot $120 million retail development is located on the south side of Highway 20 east of Interstate 575 at Exit 19, and will include a number of smaller retail stores as well as dining and entertainment establishments such as: Canton Jewelry; Cheeseburger

Bobby’s; Famous Hair; Game Stop; La Parilla; Mattress Firm; Oriental Cuisine; Rue 21; Serenity Spa; Subway; Taco Mac; Vision Works; and more.   “Especially in today’s economic environment, we are delighted that Canton Marketplace will open this March as planned, and we are certain that our extensive development will spur other growth in the area,” notes Jeff Fuqua, president of The Sembler Company. “We are very pleased that Canton Marketplace will create as many as 1,200 new jobs and we commend our many retailers for their positive and optimistic outlook for the future.”   Canton Marketplace is part of Canton Place, a 415-acre mixed-use development which upon completion will include a residential component, office space, as well as Northside Hospital-Cherokee.   For tenant information, visit ShopCantonMarketplace.com. SEMBLER IN THE COMMUNITY Betty Sembler Named to Hall of Fame

B

etty Sembler will be inducted into the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame on March 17. She was nominated for this great honor by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist.   Mrs. Sembler along with husband Mel Sembler, have crusaded in the battle against drugs for more than three decades. She has served on the boards of the Florida Holocaust Museum, the University of Florida Brain Addiction Research Advisory Council, the Florida House in Washington, D.C., and the Florida Governor’s Mansion Foundation.   The Women’s Hall of Fame was established by the Florida Legislature in 1992 and each year the Florida Commission on the Status of Women nominates 10 women to the governor, who then chooses up to three for induction. Names of inductees are permanently displayed in the plaza level of the Capitol.

oodwill Industries-Suncoast, St. Petersburg, recently announced the election of Joshua Beyer, Director of Development, to its Board of Directors.   According to its website, Goodwill “provides job training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities and disadvantages through its community-based member organizations around the world.”   As a volunteer Board Member, Josh will help guide policy for the organization.
