GRADUATE COLLEGE ADMISSION POLICY for ADVANCED PROGRAMS REQUIREMENTS Application pending with agreement to provisional terms

ADMISSION DECISION Provisional Admission: Provisional Admission provides the Advanced Programs applicant an opportunity to enroll in a limited number of credit hours while completing the admission process. The Provisional Graduate Student must limit their enrollment to nine credit hours and is neither guaranteed nor promised admission to a graduate degree program at the University of Oklahoma. Provisional Admission is granted for 120 days. Requests for extension beyond 120 days must be approved by the Graduate College Dean.

GPA 3.00 or Higher

Full Admission: Student admitted in full standing to a degree program.

GPA 2.75 to 2.99

Conditional Admission with Academic Deficiency: Student is conditionally admitted to a degree program and will be monitored during their first 12 credit hours of letter-graded coursework. The GPA earned on the first 12 credit hours of letter-graded coursework must be at least 3.00. No grades of D, F, or U will be permitted while conditionally admitted. Students who earn an excessive number of grades of “I” or “W” while conditionally admitted may be subject to disenrollment.

GPA 2.25 to 2.74

Conditional Alternate Admission: Alternate Admission criteria are degree program specific. Applicants with a GPA between 2.25-2.74 on the last sixty hours from an earned baccalaureate degree or less than a 3.00 grade point average on at least 12 hours of graduate level coursework may be considered for alternate admission provided at least three years have elapsed since awarding of the applicant’s baccalaureate degree. (Some academic units require longer periods.) To be admitted, the student must meet the alternate admission criteria specified by the degree program to which they are applying. Once alternate admission criteria have been met, the student will be granted conditional alternate admission to a degree program and will be monitored during their first 12 credit hours of letter-graded coursework. The GPA earned on the first 12 credit hours of letter-graded coursework must be at least 3.00. No grades of D, F, or U will be permitted while conditionally admitted. Students who earn an excessive number of grades of “I” or “W” while conditionally admitted may be subject to disenrollment.

GPA below 2.25

Denied: Applicants who do not meet Conditional Alternate Admission requirements will be denied admission to a degree program.

NOTE: Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated through the semester in which the last 60 semester credit hours of letterth graded coursework were completed. If the 60 hour falls in the middle of a semester, the entire semester will be used in the calculation. If the Graduate College cannot determine the last 60 credit hours, the entire transcript will be evaluated. All letter grades received, including coursework that was repeated for a better grade, will be used in the calculation. Postbaccalaureate coursework will be considered as supplemental information in determining admission if it consists of at least 12 credit hours of upper division coursework. For admission based on graduate credit, at least 12 hours of letter-graded graduate coursework with a 3.00 GPA is required. Requests for exception to admission and transfer credit policies are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
