The University of Hong Kong (HKU) HKU, as a leading international institution of higher learning in Asia, strives to attract and nurture outstanding scholars from around the world through excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, research and knowledge exchange, contributing to the advancement of society and the development of leaders through a global presence, regional significance and engagement with the rest of China.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) HKU is an international institution and English is the medium of teaching and learning. About 50 percent of the academic staff and 25 percent of the student body are from outside Hong Kong. In the 2009-2010 academic year, there were 22,139 students (11,589 undergraduates, 10,550 postgraduates), of which around 6,388 were Mainland Chinese and international students.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) HKU is ranked 22 worldwide (and the highest in Asia) in the “2011 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking”, while the “2011 The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking” puts HKU as 34 worldwide and second in Asia. It is no doubt that HKU has emerged as one of the top universities both globally and regionally. More information on HKU today can be found at: http://www.hku.hk/about/.

Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) FBE offers many programmes from the undergraduate to the master and doctoral levels, as well as EMBA and executive education. Its full-time MBA programme was ranked the first in Asia by The Economist in 2011. More information on the Faculty can be found at: http://www.fbe.hku.hk/.

Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) HKU is an international institution and English is the medium of teaching and learning. About 50% of the academic staff and 25% of the student body are from outside Hong Kong. There are also thousands of overseas exchange students every year. We therefore have an international learning environment as well as bountiful experience in teaching and accommodating students from overseas.

Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) In addition to teaching in Hong Kong, FBE has offered an MBA (International) programme in Shanghai since 1998. It is one of the first degree programmes offered in the Chinese mainland by a non-mainland institution since China’s economic reform and opening-up.

Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) These alumni in Shanghai, together with those in Hong Kong, will be part of the rich resources that we will draw on in the lineup of representative companies for site visits and speakers to share their business insights. All in all, FBE is very well poised to offer a successful summer programme on China business and economy for both overseas and local students.

"Global Business in Asia: New Horizons" is a summer academic programme which was first launched in 2012. The aim of this programme is to provide participants with an in-depth understanding and first-hand experience of the current economic development and business environment in China.

The programmeme lasts for four weeks with the first two in Hong Kong and the last two in Shanghai. • Christine Bancroft, Queen’s University, GBIA2012 “I have gained a broad understanding of business environments in a variety of industries in both HK and Shanghai. The programmeme provides two interesting courses particularly the Chinese economy and you also get a very good knowledge and taste of the two cities. Visits to the Peace Hotel, Convention Center and China Merchant Bank were my favourite site visits. I also enjoyed being in a group of international students. Loved the Bund in Shanghai and the proximity of the HKU Center to it. Overall a terrific experience!” • Anne Bruntse, Aarhus University, GBIA2012 “The programmeme provides insight to China's economy, marketing and culture while at the same time offers the opportunity for an international network and a great experience. It has been a tight schedule but I want to come back to both Hong Kong and Shanghai to work and live. It was good to have the combination of site visits, lectures and sightseeing. I would recommend GBIA to my friends!”

•Jon Ma, Princeton University, GBIA2012 “The schedule was very well designed and I enjoyed the guest. I enjoyed the lectures especially those about the Hong Kong Economy, China trade, Hong Kong financial system, and Hong Kong and China cultures.”

•HOCHMAN Joshua Tim, University of Bath, GBIA2013 “I am very happy to have been selected to partake in the GBIA2013 programmeme. It has enhanced my knowledge of this dynamic and interesting part of the world and its economy. In addition, I have made many valuable contacts and friends from each corner of the world."

• HU Yang, City University London, GBIA2013 "I really enjoyed the courses, the professors are both very helpful. I think they would benefit my future studies overall. I also enjoyed the opportunities to get into corporations in different areas and listen to their experience in the industry. I had a great time with new friends I met here, four weeks already made us very close, we explored the cities together and that's the best part in the four weeks."

• LEE Preston Miles, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, GBIA2013 "My experience in Hong Kong was an excellent experience. Experiencing the culture in Shanghai for the first time was quite an experience too! I would definitely mention this programmeme to my friends who are majoring or interested in Business or Economics."

• JIANG Yichun, Arizona State University, GBIA2014 “Overall the experience was very good. 4 weeks went by so fast that I didn’t even notice. I especially enjoyed the company visits in Hong Kong. The two classes were very interesting. Although towards the end the workload was a bit heavy, but our group enjoyed working on it, and I really learned a lot. I am now very interested in marketing, and I’m planning to add marketing as my second major. “

• BRIDGE Lara, Cardiff University, GBIA2014 “It was a great experience, I met a lot of different people from different cultures, and fully experienced the Chinese culture myself. I would recommend GBIA to my friends as it was a great experience and a real eye opener."

• CHOI Sung Il, Yonsei University, GBIA2014 “Studying and living in Hong Kong and Shanghai for four weeks was a rewarding experience. The two cities were the most vibrant places in Asia and they are worth to visit in your lifetime. Not only I could build academic knowledge about the most developed cities in the world, but I also learned lifetime experience by interacting with local people and international students.“

• SKALL Thomas, Aarhus University, GBIA2014 "An amazing experience. In four weeks you get so many experiences, both academically and cultural. You make a new network of friends from all around the world. After attending the programme you really feel inspired to get an international career. The mix of the academics, cultural exchanges and new friends from all around the world really motivates you to pursue an international career in the future."
