The difference between pebble and Quartzon The most common finish for a concrete pool is a pebble finish. Pebble pools are stronger and last longer than other pool surfaces such as fibreglass, marble sheen, vinyl and paint. Like standard pebble, Quartzon is made with cement and stone pebbles. But that’s where the similarity ends.

Quartzon is so strong Most standard pebble surfaces are made with single sized aggregate particles. Quartzon is made with multi-sized quartz particles, ranging from 0.1 to 3.0mm. This gives Quartzon a higher density mix, with closer fitting particles and less exposed cement for a rock solid surface.

Naturally beautiful colours to suit every budget Lighter Quartzon colours such as White Beach and Cosimo are around the same price as good quality pebble. As the Quartzon colours get darker, more pigments and ceramically coloured stone are required, thereby increasing the investment. The richer, darker colours such as Pacific Star and Royal Blue are at the higher end of the scale, yet still remain more cost effective than a fully tiled pool.

Choosing the colour that is perfect for you and your environment Our colour collections offer so many possibilities to create a pool that is just perfect for you and your environment. However, before you choose a colour for your pool, we encourage you to consider the area surrounding it. Pools that are located under an open sky can take full advantage of light reflections, to create a richer, ‘bluer’ tint to the pool water. While pools that are surrounded with tall trees and shrubs, produce darker shades due to shadows that are cast. Tile bands and the depth of the pool also influence the final colour of your pool.

The perfect finish to choose when renovating! Update and revitalise in style The colours and superior performance qualities of Quartzon make it ideal for renovating a tired old concrete pool. Not only will you get stunning colour, but a safer, more comfortable surface. A Quartzon pool will also add value to your property. Quartzon can be applied over most existing standard pebble, marble plaster or suitably prepared painted surfaces. As long as the shell of the pool is made from concrete, your pool can be renovated with Quartzon. Quartzon can be applied right up to an original tile band.

Installing a Quartzon pool Quartzon is rendered in a similar manner to pebble, marble sheen and many of the other cement based pool plasters. After the rendering is complete, that’s where the similarity ends. Rather than using a high pressure water blaster to remove the top layer of cement and expose the course aggregates (as in pebble plaster), Quartzon is trowelled to a smooth even finish. The following day your pool is then carefully acid washed, to remove the fine layer of surface cement slurry and expose the brilliant coloured aggregates and a smooth even finish. Another advantage of Quartzon, is that the product is premixed in bags. All the applicator has to do is add water. This gives you the confidence that you are getting the correct quality product, in the exact colour you have chosen. It is important that your applicator is experienced in applying Quartzon. Just call or email our technical support team and we will be happy to provide a list of pool builders and/or applicators who are experienced in applying Quartzon.

Cleaning and maintaining your Quartzon pool Quartzon has similar maintenance requirements to other pool surfaces. When you have Quartzon installed we provide you with a comprehensive Care Guide that details step by step instructions to help you look after your pool. As with any pool, it is important to keep your pool at a balanced level. Quartzon is compatible with both salt and chlorinated pool systems as well as many other sanitation systems available today. All surfaces will stain, however with Quartzon most stains can be removed relatively easily. Quartzon is more resistant to staining than marble plaster because the aggregate is harder - thus making it difficult for organics and metal to penetrate the surface. We recommend the use of a waterline tile – not only for aesthetics, but to stop a waterline mark from appearing on your Quartzon surface.
