Volume I Issue 4 2015-16

Issue: December/January 2015

Greetings from the President Hello All, I want to wish everyone near and far and very Happy New Year. As the Holiday Season comes to an end I look forward to all of you wayfarers to return to Dunedin. At our Christmas Party we had a lot of fun and a lot of food. Many of you were sorely missed. Our float in the City of Dunedin Christmas Parade was a beautifully decorated truck donated for the day by Patte Plount’s son, Bill. We also took First Place in Operation Twinkle. Our Lamp Post was decorated in part by two classes of 3rdGraders from Dunedin Elementary School. We

are so proud to have worked with them. Our annual food drive is currently under way. We will be accepting food into the New Year. Dee will bring it to the St. Vincent DePaul’s Soup Kitchen where we can share our good fortune with those less fortunate. Our Burns Supper is on January 23, 2016. Get your tickets early. Our traditional Burns Supper Ceremony is one of the proudest moments we can all share in. Who else is looking forward to some delightful Haggis?

and feel pride in the impact my chosen groups have on our North American communities. The SAS – Dunedin scores very, very well when making a peer comparison. As a SAS member I feel pride, in being one and would hope all members feel the same.

We have many events coming up and I would encourage you all to show your support by attending them. We need to all pull together, pull our bootstraps up and pull out that little bit of energy you have left after the holidays to join the other members for camaraderie and to ensure the future of the Scottish American Society of Dunedin. Warm Wishes Diane

However our peer group yearly member fees are between $25 to over $100, ours were at $15. Our peer groups have dinners that often cost $25 to $65, and our peer groups have special event dinners/w entertainment that are $65 to $150. The SAS does much of the same events and

The Rampant Line

Operation Twinkle Operation Twinkle is a project held by the City of Dunedin, where sponsors decorate the lampposts. Last year the SAS took 3rd place. This year we took NUMBER ONE! The SAS would like to acknowledge Randy Haffey for the design, Anne Isenberg, Audrey Self, Diane Burke, Patte Plount and the 3rd grade classes of Dunedin Elementary for making this award possible. The SAS did not spend any money on this project. Contributions came from the members that participated in its design and development.

parade, lamp post and the upcoming Highland Dance Competition that will keep people coming back to us and a younger generation interested in being a part of our Society.

This year was my first experience attending a St. Andrews Dinner and I must say it was a delight. The food was wonderful by Marguerite’s Café and the entertainment, with the author, the St. Andrews Pipe Band and especially with the Scottish Country Dancers was very special. As it was to the four new members that sat at my table and the one guest. They loved it and said they would be coming to other events in the future.

We now say goodbye to 2015 and ring in 2016. There have been many changes within our organization this year, some great leaps, good connections as well as some sad losses. We’ll drink a cup of kindness yet, for Auld Lang Syne.

It’s events such as our dinners, the
