T

he UT Scan® is a combination of hardware and software components, designed to streamline the pipeline AUT inspection process. The UT Scan® pipeline inspection solution is the industry leader in inspection hardware and software. Our hardware components comprise of state of the art hybrid phased array and conventional ultrasonic instrumentation. Combined with a complete software suite that facilitates full project management, our system can provide timely and cost effective solutions to any inspection process. The hardware component of UT Scan® consists of three main parts. These three parts are a flexible, robust, field deployable multi-channel and phased array ultrasonic scanner (UTR); and a dedicated computer with custom electronics and software (UTM); and a unique cable system to connect the two units (Umbilical). The software elements of the UT Scan® include a project and AUT technique setup wizard, complete with drawing functions for calibration blocks; in addition, it contains the UT Scan® operating software, extensive reporting functions, and GPS location data for each weld.

UTR The UTR is a custom-designed state of the art hybrid phased array and conventional ultrasonic instrument that can be attached to a steel pipe under test. It has its own drive system and intelligent electronics. This device directly contacts the pipe under test, driving itself around the pipe while controlling the pulsing/receiving of ultrasonic transducers (ultrasonic probes).

UTM The UTM is a ruggedized PC in a custom metal case with added peripheral components used in ultrasonic testing. Like any PC, the UTM has a monitor, keyboard, mouse, hard drive, ports, and a DVD/CD drive. The UTM is the operator station for the control and evaluation part of the testing process.

U MBI L I CA L The Umbilical Cable connects the UTR and UTM with a separation of up to 100m, completing the system and giving it the flexibility to be used in different environments.

O VERVIEW The UT Scan® software silently logs scan and defect information to a database where it can be used for reporting. A secondary program called UT Report was designed to generate a number of reports to aid in summarizing and trending the results gathered. R EPORT T YPES D AILY W ELD I NSPEC TION R EPORT The Daily Weld Inspection report provides a summary of welds scanned and defects found for a particular day or shift. This report is typically submitted to the client on a daily basis.
