Brauerei C & A Veltins is a brewery in the west German city of MeschedeGrevenstein. The small guesthouse brewery of Franz Kramer opened its simple wooden gates in 1824. Clemens Veltins took over the brewery in 1852. The new name, Brauerei C & A Veltins, came from the twins Carl and Anton Veltins who took over the company from their father in 1893. A classic German Pilsner, crisp, refreshing with a great herbal hop bite.

Fullers Seasonal: - Please ask our staff about the current Fullers seasonal beers we have available. Guest Ale: -We support local brewing and will stock a rotation of guest beers from a variety of quality suppliers from around London and the surrounding counties.

What is Cask Ale? Real ale is a natural product brewed using traditional ingredients and left to mature in the cask (container) from which it is served in the pub through a process called secondary fermentation. It is this process, which makes real ale unique amongst beers and develops the wonderful tastes and aromas, which processed beers, can never provide. The main ingredients are barley, hops and pure water. Let me explain briefly the process…. The Barley is first malted and then heated in a kiln; at this stage the heat affects the type of malt produced. The malt is crushed into a powder then added to hot water and then added to a mash tun where the sugars dissolve and the liquid is then run through the vessel to create the ‘Wort’. The Wort is then boiled with hops and cooled before being sent to fermentation tanks where the yeast is added. Yeast is a microscopic fungus that feeds off the Wort’s sugars to create alcohol and carbon dioxide, which creates a yellowy-brown crust. This is then cleared off before the finished ‘Green Beer’ is then run into conditioning casks. The remaining yeast continues to turn to sugar to alcohol and also helps to purge the beer of any rough tastes. Theses casks are then delivered to our cellars and cared for by trained staff to allow a second fermentation in the barrel before it is then ready to be served and enjoyed at the bar.

Vodka is a clear spirit that can be made be produced from anything containing starch or sugar – including potatoes, molasses and, most commonly, grain. Once distilled virtually any flavouring can be added to create one of the many flavoured vodkas you see here. Vodka’s origin is a source of a bitter dispute between the Russians and the Polish – both argue that it originated in their country. The name ‘Vodka’ derives from the Russian word for water, in turn the Polish word ‘Wodka’ also derives from the Polish for water.

Gin was a bi-product of a cure for kidney complaints for Dutch settlers in the West Indies and the name was ‘Genièvre’, the French word for Juniper, the base ingredient that makes Gin, well Gin. The Dutch soon adopted this new spirit as an essential ingredient to good health and shortened it to ‘Genever’ or ‘Jenever’. King William III (William of Orange) introduced Genever to England, aided by British troops who discovered the drink (referred to as ‘Dutch Courage’) while fighting in Holland. The English further abbreviated the Dutch name ‘Genever’ simply to ‘Gin’. Did you know? In the 1740’s, the average man, woman and child in London drank 2 pints of Gin a week – by 1750 a pint of Gin was cheaper than a pint of beer…….

Mount Gay Rum

Rum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane by products, such as molasses, or directly from sugarcane juice, by a process of fermentation and distillation. The distillate, a clear liquid, is then usually aged in oak barrels. The majority of the world's rum production occurs in the Caribbean and Latin America. Light rums are commonly used in cocktails, whereas "golden" and "dark" rums were typically consumed individually (i.e., "straight" or "neat") or used for cooking, but are now commonly consumed with mixers.

Tequila is named after the town of the same name located forty miles west of Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. In the language of the local Nahuati tribe the word ‘tequila’ means volcano. Despite its reputation Tequila is no stronger than other spirits. Another misconception is that Tequila sometimes has a worm in the bottle, this is not true. It is Tequila’s relation, Mezcal, which comes with the worm, which is, in any case, not a worm but a moth larva. Tequila is produced from kinds of Agave (pronounced Uh-Gah-Vee) of which there are over 400 varieties. The variety used to produce Tequila is the Agave tequilana Weber, also known as Blue Agave. Our recommended tequila is the range of Patrón Tequilas we have. The Café XO is an interesting blend of Tequila and Coffee, taken straight up or in a rocks glass with lots of ice!

The word ‘whiskey’ derives from the Gaelic ‘uisque beatha’, meaning ‘water of life’ and whiskies are distilled in countries around the world including Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia and Japan. Wales and England have recently started producing whiskey as the drink joins the popular resurgence of small batch spirit production we are experiencing at the moment. We have approximately 30 whiskies to try from simple blends to Smokey single malts from the Scottish Isles. We also have whiskies from the USA and Wales in the ‘cabinet’ so why not pull up a stool to the bar for a ‘wee dram’…..?
