OIE Peer Mentor Position Description Qualifications: Minimum 2.75 cum GPA. Candidates are to possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Must be patient, dependable, flexible, responsible, professional, and culturally sensitive and good listeners. Must have excellent follow-through, be highly organized, and have a high regard for confidentiality. Must be able to work independently and in a team, and act as a role model. Candidates should be able to empathize with international student adjustment issues. International students and American students are encouraged to apply.

Experience: A demonstrated ability to understand and work well with international students from different cultural and religious backgrounds. Resident Advisor, Academic Team Member, Teaching Assistant, Orientation Leader, Tutor or other student leadership experience preferred. Experience planning and implementing student activities as well as facilitating the creation of a safe and welcoming living/learning environment. Familiar with campus resources. Driving license and willingness to become university van certified is very helpful.

Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities are to act as a role model and positively represent the college while helping new international students adjust to American college life, overcome obstacles in their education and in their cultural adjustment, utilize campus resources throughout the semester and support international student arrival and orientation procedures. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:        

Assist OIE, peer mentor team with international student arrival, driving for airport pickup, residence hall move-in, campus tour and student orientation in July or August or January Individually meet with and mentor international students weekly during the semester Provide student guidance and connection to relevant campus resources and offices Program with peer mentor team at least 2 events for international students per semester Guide international students in problem solving skills, personal development and transition to American college life and American culture. Prepare and promptly submit time sheets, evaluations and mentoring reports Maintain close contact with and meet regularly with international student advisor and mentor team Other duties as assigned by OIE international student advisor

Remuneration:  Fall Semester Stipend ($400)

Summer ESL Program Extra Stipend ($ per availability)

Dates of Obligation:  Summer ESL Program requires 2 Peer Mentors starting July 14 through August 15. Must attend Peer Mentor training sessions on July 14 and 15, 2016. Must be available days/evenings from July 14 to 18, 2016 and some Wed/Sat prior to Aug 15. Must become University Van Certified after hiring during Spring Semester (2 hour training)  Fall Semester requires 8 to 10 Peer Mentors starting August 16 through the Fall Semester. Must arrive to Oneonta on August 14, attend Peer Mentor training sessions on July 16 and 17, 2016. Must be available days/evenings from August 16 to 28, 2016 during OIE airport pickups and OIE International Student Orientation week for new students without other major commitments. Must commit to event programming, student mentoring, student trips during the semester.

OIE reserves the right to make changes in the calendar, work assignments/hours if necessary.

OIE Student Intern Position Description Qualifications: Minimum 2.75 cum GPA. Candidates must have completed a SUNY study abroad program either through SUNY Oneonta or another SUNY school (community college study abroad program participants are also eligible). Candidates are to possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Must be patient, dependable, flexible, responsible, professional, and culturally sensitive. Must have excellent follow-through, be highly organized, and have a high regard for confidentiality. Must be able to work independently and in a team, and act as a role model.

Peer Mentor, Resident Advisor, Academic Team Member, Teaching Assistant, Orientation Leader, Tutor or other student leadership experience preferred. Experience planning and implementing student activities preferred. Should be familiar with campus resources. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint preferred. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:             

Provide new study abroad inquirers with a range of services, including: passport enrollment, referral to other campus offices as necessary. Provide guidance on SUNY-wide study abroad site and variety of overseas travel options. Conduct an average of 10 classroom visits and small group presentations regarding study abroad. Provide administrative assistance in OIE including, filing, answering phone calls, correspondence, data collection, organizing office, and handling mail. Receive 12-passenger van training from UPD and assist with student field trips, airport pick-up Assist with supervision of Study Abroad Ambassadors. Assist with study abroad event coordination, publication creation and other study abroad outreach Provide assistance at study abroad events and workshops. Representative for OIE to visiting international visitors, conducting campus tours. Prepare candidate checklists, acceptance packets and promotional materials. Conduct a variety of research projects and data collection with the use of Excel related to study abroad and/or inbound students. Maintain close contact with OIE professional staff. Other duties as assigned by OIE professional staff.

Remuneration:  $9.50 per hour (approximately 8 hours per week) Dates of Obligation:  August 25 to December 12, 2016, except for semester breaks Must attend training session at the beginning of the fall 2016 semester. Complete mandatory Study Abroad Ambassador training (approx. 2 hours) Schedule and conduct a minimum of 10 presentations in total (approx. 15 minutes each) regarding study abroad in classrooms and in general interest meetings Conduct a minimum of 10 hours of study abroad promotion at a booth in dining halls throughout the semester. Assist with study abroad events, including but not limited to: Study Abroad Fair, Study Abroad Discovery Night. Work as a team with other Study Abroad Ambassadors and OIE Student Intern(s) to develop and implement at least 1 study abroad-related event per semester. Attend 1-hour Study Abroad Ambassador meetings twice monthly.

Remuneration:  Earn a $250 stipend for the semester Dates of Obligation:  August 29 to December 12, 2016 except for semester breaks Must attend training session at the beginning of the fall 2016 semester (details will be forthcoming) OIE reserves the right to make changes in the calendar, work assignments/hours if necessary. Position is offered on a semester basis, with renewal contingent upon evaluation.

OIE Marketing Communications Assistant Position Description Qualifications: Minimum 2.75 cum GPA. Candidates are to possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Must be patient, dependable, flexible, responsible, professional, culturally sensitive and good listeners. Must have excellent follow-through, be highly organized, and have a high regard for confidentiality. Must be able to work independently and in a team.

Experience: Experience with web design and web design software (i.e. Dreamweaver), as well as Microsoft Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint required. Experience with In Design preferred. Completion of courses related to graphic design and web design also preferred. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Update OIE website with use of Dreamweaver as necessary. Create flyers and other print publications for use in study abroad outreach and international student services and recruitment.  Take photographs during study abroad and international student events, activities, and workshops for use in digital and print publications, as well as social media.  Maintain close contact with OIE professional staff.  Other duties as assigned by OIE professional staff.  

Remuneration:  $9.50 per hour (approximately 4 hours per week—varies based on office needs) Dates of Obligation:  August 25 to December 12, 2016, except for semester breaks Must attend training session at the beginning of the fall 2016 semester.
