„Hotel im Park“ – so betitelte Architekt Jan Störmer seine ersten Gedanken als er mit den Entwürfen begann. Entstanden ist eine faszinierende, organische Form aus drei verschliffenen Kreisen, die ineinander verschmelzen und sich fließend in die landschaftliche Umgebung einfügen. Die lichtdurchfluteten Räume geben dem Gast das Gefühl, sich unmittelbar in der städtischen Natur zu befinden. Das Herzstück im Inneren bilden zwei imposante offene Räume, der begrünte Patio und das 27m hohe Atrium, das von einer zarten Lichtinstallation in Szene gesetzt wird. Architecture: hotel meets sculpture. ‘Hotel in the park’, this is how architect Jan Störmer entitled his vision when he began his first sketches. As a result, a fascinating, amorphous shape evolved from three intertwining circles, blending in seamlessly with its surroundings. Flooded with light, the airy spaces convey the impression of being in the midst of urban nature. The interior reveals two impressive open spaces: the landscaped patio and the 27m high atrium with a subtle light installation as its centrepiece.

Er verliebte sich in die wunderschöne Wasserlage direkt am südwestlichen Ufer des Alstersees und erwarb 1816 das einzigartige Grundstück, auf dem heute, rund 200 Jahre später, das THE FONTENAY entsteht. In the 19 th century, American shipping agent John Fontenay settled in Hamburg. He fell in love with the most picturesque waterfront location on the southwestern shore of the Alster lake. In 1816, Fontenay acquired this unique plot in the heart of the city – the location of today’s THE FONTENAY hotel development.
