This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests and visitors.

Introduction Majestic by name and by nature, this imposing hotel is a late-Victorian landmark set in 8 acres of landscaped gardens. Dating from 1900, when Harrogate was enjoying a second heyday as a spa town. The Majestic is ideally placed for discovering the magical Yorkshire Dales, just a short drive away. The hotel is situated in Harrogate and is a 10 minute walk to the town centre. We have 170 bedrooms, health and leisure facilities and 9 meeting and function rooms. Throughout the hotel, there are steps leading to some facilities and where possible we are continuing to place ramps and lifts within the parameters of the hotel’s listed building status. Car parking and Arrival There are 5 allocated blue badge parking spaces to the right hand side of the hotel.

The car park surface is tarmac. At night there is reasonable lighting outside the hotel.

For level access to the hotel, there is a set of double automatic white doors. There is a covered walk way that takes you through to the main hotel reception. Turn left at the end of the corridor and reception is a short walk on the left hand side. Porter service is available to help with luggage 24 hours a day. There are other spaces outside the front of the hotel which can be reserved for your arrival.

At the main entrance to the hotel, there are 2 sets of automatic double doors. There are 6 steps between these double doors. During windy weather, external doors may be secured for safety. Reception is on the ground floor and has level access throughout.

The reception area consists of patterned short pile carpet. The area is lit by chandelier and spot lights. There is additional seating within the reception area. A familiarisation tour is available on request. We have an induction loop system and vibrating pillow pads for the deaf and hard of hearing and our employees are trained to use it.

Lift - Ground floor to 4th floor The lift is approximately 30” wide and 55” deep. There is an alarm linked to reception. There are audible announcements. There is limited contrast with a brown wall, grey floor and mirror. Lighting is spot lights.

Bedrooms There are no ground floor bedrooms within the hotel. The hotel has 1 accessible bedroom located on the 1st floor and is accessed by the stairs or lift.

Bedroom 162

The width of the bedroom door is 33” The width of the bathroom door is 33” The height of the toilet is 19” There are 3 drop down rails and 5 fixed rails in the bathroom. There is 2 alarms in the bathroom and 2 alarms in the bedroom. The height of the beds is 25” The width either side of the bed is 27” The height under the dressing table is 25“ In most of the bathrooms throughout the hotel, the shower is located above the bath. Rubber bath mats are provided in all bedrooms. Bedrooms offer the following: Lighting can be controlled at several points, there is good contrast between the floor, walls and doors, short pile carpet, all bedding is non feather, widescreen digital television with remote control and subtitles.

The Lounge and Bar

Entrance to the lounge and bar is on the ground floor and has level access. The floor consists of a patterned short pile carpet. The lighting is spot lights, side lights and overhead lighting. There is a mix of high stools, low level leather and fabric seating. Table service is offered as standard from the bar. We do our best to cater for any dietary requirements. Please contact us in advance with any specific requests. Where possible, all of our food produce is locally sourced. Large print menus are available. All employees can assist by running through the menus with you.

The Majestic Restaurant

There is level access to the Majestic Restaurant and it is located on the ground floor. Lighting is by chandelier and side lights. There is low level background music which can be reduced on request. The chairs are upright firm chairs and the table linen provides a strong contrast with the dark patterned carpet and walls. Breakfast is self-service, but drinks and food can be served at the table on request.

The 6 smaller syndicate rooms are accessible using the stairs or lift to the 1st, 2nd or 3rd floor. In all of our meeting and function rooms we use standard meeting chairs without arms. There is natural daylight in all of our rooms. In some of our rooms, lighting is controlled by a dimmer. There is good contrast between the short pile carpet, walls and furnishings. Public toilets are located on the ground floor and lower ground floor.

There is 1 accessible toilet which is located on the ground floor between the Ball room and Lounge.

Accessible Toilet situated on the ground floor

This toilet is situated on the ground floor in a wide corridor adjacent to the non- accessible public toilets. The door is approximately 34” wide and there is level entry. Between the toilet and the wall is 36”. The toilet height is 16”. There are 4 fixed rails. There is 1 drop down rail. Lighting is overhead florescent lighting. The floor is non slip tiles. The sink has a lever tap. There is good contrast between the white furnishings, floor and walls.

Health and Leisure Club There is level access to the health and leisure club from outside the hotel and within the hotel. There are no accessible toilets or changing facilities in the health and leisure club.

The reception area has short pile carpet, light walls and spotlights. There is a low level settee.

There is level access to the gym, changing rooms and pool. There is a step leading into the shower cubicles. There are handrails in 1 of the shower cubicles. The minimum width within the ladies changing room is 26”. The minimum width within the men’s changing room is 30”.

There are steps with a handrail leading in to the pool. There is a step with a handrail leading into the Jacuzzi. There is a hoist available for access in to the pool and our team members are trained to help you. The gym provides a broad range of modern equipment and advice is available for their use. The gym can be noisy with equipment and music. The lighting is bright throughout the health and leisure club. The tiles throughout the health and leisure club are non-slip and there is a contrast of colour to the floors, walls and furnishings throughout.

Orchid Beauty rooms There is no level access to the Orchid Beauty rooms. Access is within the hotel via a set of stairs. There are steps within the facility. Where possible, our therapists can carry out treatments in guests bedrooms. Manicures and Pedicures are undertaken in the reception area. The reception area is bright and there is good contrast between the floor, wall and furnishings. The beauty rooms have bright lighting with a dimmer. There is a contrast of colour between the walls and wooden floors. The treatment beds are adjustable in height.

Outside area and gardens

There is a revolving door leading from the lounge that leads out on to the terrace area. This door is opened fully when weather is good. There is wooden moveable seating on the terrace. For level access to the gardens, the service road can be used. The gardens have a number of steps throughout.

The children’s play area is accessed via 5 steps from the hotel or from the gardens.

Additional information All of our employees receive regular disability awareness training. We have a set of evacuation procedures. Should you require assistance, someone will come to your room and help you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge area. We have an evac chair to assist. A water bowl is available just outside the main entrance for assistance dogs and one can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary. The hotel is dog friendly. Please contact reception or further information. Room service is available 24 hours. We have a wheelchair for the use of hotel guests.
