This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests and visitors.

Introduction Set in Broadway – reputedly the prettiest village in England – The Lygon Arms (pronounced ‘Liggon’) dates back to the 16th Century. Oliver Cromwell stayed here before the Battle of Worcester in 1651. Its period charm and modern comforts provide a refined, atmospheric base for exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. The hotel is situated on the main road running through Broadway. Evesham is approximately 10 miles away. We have 78 bedrooms, leisure facilities and 7meeting and function rooms. There is no wheelchair access to the first floor in the Health and Leisure Club where beauty treatments take place. There are no lifts within the hotel. Throughout the hotel, there are steps leading to most facilities and where possible we are continuing to place ramps and lifts within the parameters of the hotel’s listed building status. The nearest main railway station is Evesham which is approximately 10 miles. The telephone number 0800 197 1329 for assisted travel. Emerald Taxis can provide an accessible vehicle for a wheelchair user with notice. Their telephone number is 01386 761705. The local bus service is Castleways and the bus stops are on the main road outside the hotel. The telephone number is 01242 603715/602949 .

Car parking and Arrival There is a driveway outside the front of the hotel which allows guests to park on a temporary basis whilst checking in.

A valet service is available and we will be happy to park your vehicle for you. There is limited parking in the courtyard of the hotel and we are happy to reserve a space for you with prior arrival. There are 2 car parks at the rear of the hotel and the surface is gravel. The courtyard surface is tarmac. At night there is limited lighting outside the hotel.

Porter service is available to help with luggage 24 hours a day. There is 1 small step at the front entrance of the hotel. The wooden inner door requires a firm push to gain entry to reception which is level access.

There is also an entrance to reception from the courtyard which is level access.

Reception is on the ground floor and has level access throughout.

The reception area has dark flag stones, dark patterned rugs and dark furnishings. It is lit by side lights. The floor is uneven. A familiarisation tour is available on request.

Bedrooms There is 1 accessible bedroom within the hotel (301). Access to bedroom 301 is within the courtyard with a short walk to the reception.

The height of the bed is 22” The height of the toilet height is 18” The distance between the toilet and the glass panel separating the shower is 25” The height of the dressing table is 24 ½ “ There is an emergency pull cord in bathroom and beside the bed.

There are 5 additional courtyard bedrooms with level access. Two of these bedrooms are twin rooms. There are no ground floor bedrooms within the main part of the hotel. All other bedrooms within the main part of the hotel are accessed by steps and do not have level entry. In most bathrooms throughout the hotel, the shower is located above the bath and rubber bath mats are provided. In some bedrooms there is a separate shower. Bedrooms offer the following: Lighting can be controlled at several points, there is good contrast between the floor, walls and doors, short pile carpet, all bedding is non feather, widescreen digital television with remote control and subtitles.

Cotswold Bar and Lounge (Ground floor)

Entrance to the Cotswold bar and lounge is on the ground floor and has level access. The floor consists of a light striped short pile carpet. There are windows and the area is bright during the day. The lighting is subdued in the evening. There are low level leather and fabric settees and chairs. Service is usually at the bar, but drinks and food can be served at the table on request. We do our best to cater for any dietary requirements. Please contact us in advance with any specific requests. Where possible, all of our food produce is locally sourced. Large print menus are available. All employees can assist by running through the menus with you.

Lounges (Ground floor)

There are a number of small lounges on the ground floor. There is dark wood panelling mixed with light walls, darker floors and rugs and dark furnishes. The lighting is side lights. There is a mixture of hard back chairs, settees with and without arms. The lighting levels are low and subdued in the evening.

Great Hall Restaurant (Ground floor)

There is level access to the restaurant on the ground floor. Lighting is by chandeliers. The chairs are upright firm chairs and the table linen provides a strong contrast with the dark patterned carpet. Breakfast is self-service, but drinks and food can be served at the table on request. We do our best to cater for any dietary requirements. Please contact us in advance with any specific requests. Where possible, all of our food produce is locally sourced. Large print menus are available. All employees can assist by running through the menus with you. There are 4 steps that lead to the Lygon room from the reception.

Corridors Within the hotel, floors can be uneven and not level due to the age of the building. There is generally contrast with the carpet and walls, but not always with the steps.

The Russell room has short pile striped carpet, dark panelling on the pillars, white walls, small windows and lighting is by chandelier and side lights. The lighting is subdued in the evening. The Cromwell room has a large patterned rug, dark panelling on some walls, white walls, small windows and lighting is by side lights. The lighting is subdued in the room. The Drawing room has short pile striped carpet, white walls, large bay window and lighting is by chandelier and side lights. The Edinburgh room has short pile striped carpet, white walls, large wall of glass and lighting is by spotlights and side lights.

The Hereford room has short pile striped carpet, light walls, small windows and lighting is by spotlights. The lighting is subdued in the evening. The Torrington room has short pile striped carpet, white walls, windows and lighting is by spotlights on a dimmer. The Worcester room has short pile striped carpet, light walls, small windows and lighting is by spotlights. The lighting is subdued in the evening.

Health and Leisure Club

Access to the Health and Leisure Club is from the courtyard. There are stairs to the 1st floor where the beauty treatments are undertaken. There are 2 small steps leading into the reception where there are 2 mats. The reception has a dark floor tiles, spot lights and an additional seating area. The height of the reception desk is 43”.

There is level access to the gym, indoor pool, public toilets, sauna, steam room and the changing rooms. The plunge pool has steps to access and there is an alarm available.

There is a contrast of beige tiles, white lockers and green walls in the changing rooms. Individual cubicles are provided in the showers. The gym provides a broad range of modern equipment and advice is available for their use. The lighting is bright in the changing rooms, gym, pool and juice and coffee bar. The beauty rooms have bright lighting with a dimmer. There is a contrast of colour between the walls and wooden floors. The juice and coffee bar is situated upstairs and overlooks the pool. The lighting is bright with a dark wooden floor, dark furniture and light walls.

Part Accessible toilet in the Health and Leisure Club This toilet is situated on the ground floor near reception.

The door is approximately 34” wide and there is level entry. The toilet height is 16”. The distance between the toilet and the wall is 33”. There are 4 fixed rails and 1 drop down rail. There is fluorescent overhead lighting. The floor is non slip tiles. The sink has lever taps. There is contrast between the white furnishing, floor and walls.

Gardens and Croquet Lawn At the rear of the hotel across the road you will find the gardens, croquet lawn and tennis court. There are a few steps which divide the gardens and access is on grass.

Tennis Courts Access to the Tennis Courts is through the gardens on grass.

Luke’s Broadway – New British Bistro Next to the hotel is a small restaurant called Luke’s Broadway serving bistro food.

There is level access to the ground floor of the bistro. There are 4 steps leading up to the second level of the restaurant. There are a total of 7 steps leading to the public toilets.

The floor is dark stone tiles with white walls. There are spot lights and the lighting is subdued in the evening. The restaurant can be very noisy when the restaurant is full. There are no accessible toilets within the bistro.

Additional information All of our employees receive regular disability awareness training. We have a set of evacuation procedures. Should you require assistance, someone will come to your room and help you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge area. A water bowl is available just outside the main entrance for assistance dogs and one can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary. The hotel is dog friendly; please contact reception or further information. Room service is available 24 hours. The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS facility is at Worcester. Future plans We are reviewing our current access audit and ensuring that our future plans help to make the hotel more accessible.
