EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES The 31st Annual Symposium: Clinical Update in Anesthesiology, Surgery and Perioperative Medicine is designed to help busy professionals advance their knowledge and keep current by providing a review of innovations, recent advances and best practices in cardiothoracic, vascular and general anesthesiology, surgery, perioperative medicine, and critical care. In addition, a hands-on ultrasound guided regional blocks workshop wiIl be conducted for interested participants. At the conclusion of the symposium, participants wiIl be able to: 1. Describe new diagnostic modalities, therapeutic agents and management strategies in the fields of cardiothoracic, vascular and general anesthesia, surgery, critical care and perioperative medicine 2. Recognize and implement best practice anesthetic management of patients with significant comorbidities 3. Discuss the current management of the patient with cardiac disease 4. REGIONAL BLOCK WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS: Scan the relevant nerves of the brachial plexus, the femoral nerve, and the sciatic nerve using ultrasound technology, identify the anatomy, and direct a regional block needle to the appropriate location to perform the desired nerve block under direct ultrasonic visualization. EDUCATIONAL METHODS Didactic lectures and panel discussions by recognized leaders in their field. Poster presentation of abstracts of relevant basic science research and interesting clinical cases. Hands-on ultrasonic regional anesthesia workshop (upper and lower extremity) TARGET AUDIENCE Anesthesiologists, cardiothoracic, vascular and general surgeons, cardiologists, intensivists, nurse anesthetists, physicians in training, perfusionists, physician assistants, and nurses.
