The BIG Vision A vision of A Better World through values, technology, and the power of Doing Good

The Big Vision The BetterWorldians Vision makes the world a better place by focusing on and encouraging the best in everyone. We have a positive, caring, and valuescentric outlook to act as an antidote to the anger, bullying, cynicism, selfishness, and apathy so rampant today. Our approach is “planting flowers instead of pulling weeds.” We believe that the solutions to today’s problems are found by cultivating our better natures. We focus on positive thinking, positive values, and positive actions. In short, our vision is to Bring Out the BetterWorldian in Everybody so that we can all make it A Better World. We accomplish our vision with a commitment to values, a focus on today’s and tomorrow’s generations, the use of trending technology, and a belief in capitalism as a force of good.

Values: We have a strong set of values that inform all our work: Kindness, Hope, Love, Gratitude, Positivity, Inspiration, Community, Teamwork, and Giving. We believe that these simple and noble values can bring about the changes needed today. If people can begin to treat each other with respect and kindness, if they can be grateful for what they have, if they can have hope in a better world, if they can join in communities of change, and if they can reach out to those in need with a heavy heart and a helping hand, then we can truly begin to heal our world. These values are found throughout our products and are core to our BetterWorldians mission to make the world a better place.

Generations: We believe our mission has to reach the adults of today and the adults of tomorrow in order to really change the world. We think adults need positive reminders of what is good and decent in the world. So much of our media and culture is negatively valenced that people need refreshers on what makes life so beautiful, powerful, and worth living. Our BetterWorldians Radio show is a weekly broadcast that highlights the authors, filmmakers, business owners, non-profit executives, spiritual leaders, and many others who in their work and craft help to make it a better world. And our A Better World virtual world game on Facebook takes social gaming, a popular pastime for

hundreds of millions of adults on social networks, and channels this time and effort toward doing good and making a difference. But of course, kids, “tweens,” teens, and young adults are the creators of tomorrow’s world. Our A Better World game is also great for kids and teens, because it teaches values and shows them that good actions lead to good consequences. And these lessons and values are all conveyed in a fun game context with players being able to play arcade games, care for pets, dress up their character, and decorate their virtual home. Many parents and children have even played our game together and shared their enjoyment of both the fun and values components.

Technology: A digital age and a digital generation need digital solutions. Our vision brings our core values to adults and children using the trending technologies and media that pervade their lives today, such as social media, computer games, and mobile applications. There is little doubt that the Information Age has profoundly and unalterably changed the course of human history. The Internet changed everything overnight, and the recent rise of massive social networks like Facebook has brought the world’s population together like never before. But we see that the real potential remains largely untapped. We see an inherent altruism within these technologies that has yet to be brought to light. Behind the one and zeros of this technology are values intrinsic to these platforms, which encourage things like Empathy, Friendship, Giving, and Teamwork. We aim to let loose the potential of these technologies in the service of doing good and making a difference.

Social Enterprise: We want to unleash the power of capitalism on the needs of the world. The transformational force of technology can be joined with the speed of startups and the strengths of the marketplace to magnify the reach and effect of traditional non-profit models. The idea is: profit + purpose. A Better World is a “Social Enterprise” - the new name for companies with missions to do well financially by doing good in the world. Essential to our corporate mission is the belief that companies can turn a profit while making a difference. Our belief is that as more companies demonstrate that they can make money by doing good, the more the marketplace will demand that businesses leave the world better than they found it. Once every company needs to do good in order to be competitive, the rate of change in making a difference will be astounding and unstoppable.

Where  We  Are  Now A Better World Facebook Game A Better World is a groundbreaking, uplifting, and cause-supporting Facebook game “Where All Good Deeds Are Rewarded and Real World Causes Are Supported!” It harnesses the immersive, interactive, and imaginative power of games to convey and instill values while having fun. Players earn Do-Good Gold for doing things like sending get well notes to sick children, sharing acts of kindness, offering their hopes and dreams, expressing gratitude, being positive, sending hearts of love and friendship, and many other altruistic acts. Players can then use their Do-Good Gold to decorate their dream house and dress in their favorite fashions. As of June 2014, over 2.5 million people have done over 22 million good deeds in A Better World. And every month, do-good goals are set for our players that, when met, release funds to support causes like providing new winter coats for kids, improving facilities for orphans in India, supporting the anti-bullying movement in schools, providing life-saving surgery for kids in the developing world, and many, many more. We call this Cause Gaming.®

BetterWorldians Radio BetterWorldians Radio is a weekly Internet radio broadcast that highlights the people making a difference, from captains of industry to everyday heroes that work to make the world a better place. It serves as a vehicle to promote the good deeds done by authors, filmmakers, charitable leaders, philanthropists, as well as everyday people. Our hope is to share stories that also uplift and inspire our listeners to make a difference in their own lives and communities. BetterWorldians Radio has been growing rapidly every month and is broadcast through Voice America, which reaches over 4 million listeners around the world through its network. Guests so far have included filmmaker Ben Wagner of Mister Rogers and Me, social media guru Lori Deschene of Tiny Buddha, best selling author and positive psychologist Barbara Fredrickson, and Dale Brantner, CEO of CURE International.

Where  We’re  Headed  Next Kids and Tweens Marketplace A Better World is embarking on a new initiative to expand its reach by focusing on the kids’ and tweens’ marketplace with a version of the game designed specifically for kids to play (somewhat like Disney’s Club Penguin). Based on extensive testing as well as first hand reports, we’ve found that our game is very popular with the younger set. The kids’ version of our game would inculcate values like love, acts of kindness, compassion, and gratitude, that are frequently brought up as an antidote for the bullying so prominent in our society today. We’re working with the Dove Foundation to ensure that our kids’ game is family-friendly. We’ve also teamed up with certified “safe harbor” vendor, Privo, to ensure that our game is safe for children and compliant with all necessary laws and regulations.

Mobile and Tablet Another natural extension of the A Better World game is the introduction of a variety of games and apps to tap into the community of do-gooders with new, exciting digital venues. •

Given the rapid rise and demand for mobile games and applications, and that 40% of Facebook revenue now comes from their mobile platform, the move to mobile is a necessary next step. Our first concept is a mobile application called “Do Good,” which would merge “doing good” with the popular technology trend, “Game-ification.” Users will be able to do good deeds and share them with others, gaining enjoyment through seeing the large community of do-gooders they belong to through the app, as well as competing over “most good deeds done.”

We would also seek to take the A Better World property into the tablet market. Whereas mobile devices are typically smaller and used ‘out of house,’ tablets are becoming the device of choice for users wishing to engage with online content in the home (particularly the sitting room and kitchen). We are currently examining the best approach for tablets and are considering: o Re-creating the core A Better World Facebook game on a tablet. o Taking elements of the A Better World Facebook game onto a tablet. o Creating brand-new games and initiatives designed specifically for the tablet.

Our  Big  Goals  for  the  Future BetterWorldians Television We see the A Better World game for kids having potential for a Saturday morning television cartoon for kids. “The BetterWorldians” would feature a gang of do-gooders who go around righting wrongs, doing kind acts, and making the world a better place. The show would be similar to current kids’ shows like the Backyardigans or Daniel Tigers’ Neighborhood that have educational messages, but in the case of “The BetterWorldians” there would be a core values component. We also see our BetterWorldians Radio show as being able to make the leap to television, as a primetime TV show or PBS series bringing real world stories of miracles, inspirational stories, and personal redemption through the ABW conduit. Episode themes could include: Everyday Heroes, Commonplace Miracles, Wishes Fulfilled.

BetterWorldian Movies As we move beyond gaming into other digital entertainment venues, it is reasonable to envision the opportunity to produce a movie that will leverage our game, TV show, and other properties. Some ideas that come to mind include: •

The BetterWorldians - An animated movie extension of the children’s version of the game, much like other movies based on video games where challenges are presented and successfully overcome by the players in the movie.

A Better World - The story of a handful of organizations working everyday to make the world a better place, including the story of the A Better World franchise that helped promote them and their values.

Apparel and Accessories We can also see the A Better World brand expanding into apparel and accessories, similar to Tom’s Shoes and Life Is Good. These are for-profit companies with missions to improve the world through their business model: a portion of their profits is given to social causes. Like those companies, we would give back a portion of profits, but the big differentiator is that our brand is not just about charitable good, but also values. A Better World can become a line of clothing that focuses on “looking good and doing good.”
