Abstract: Background. The correct treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM) includes patients’ edu-

cation with the knowledge about disease, the role of diet, education and self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG). Aim. To analyze: a) the knowledge about DM among patients (pts) with DM type 2 depending on the degree of education and treatment algorithm, b) the compliance of SMBG with standards of diabetic management. Methods. The study included 185 pts with DM type 2 (M87, F98; age 63±9 y, duration of diabetes 13±10 y, BMI 30.3±4.7 kg/m2). The study questionnaire contained overall data, 17 questions assessing knowledge of DM (scale from –1 to 27 points), questions about frequency of SMBG. Results.
