Co-Sponsors: Ministry of Science and Technology of China National Natural Science Foundation of China China Association for Science and Technology Chinese Academy of Sciences Chinese Academy of Engineering Governments of Shaanxi Province and Xi’an City China Electronic Materials Association

Introduction This is the Eighth IUMRS International Conference on Electronic Materials. The IUMRS General Assembly meeting held in May, 2000 in Strasbourg has decided to hold this Conference in Xi’an, China in 2002. It is to share the research achievements and ideals in the field of electronic materials science and engineering. C-MRS will follow the footprints of the previous ones as already organized by E-MRS, MRS-Taiwan, MRS, MRS-Korea, to make it another success. The 8th IUMRS International Conference on Electronic Materials (IUMRS-ICEM 2002) will be held on June 10 to 14, 2002 in Xi’an, China. Since it is going to be the first IUMRS-ICEM in the new century, it is our intention to design it in a rather initiative way and to make it a forum for the scientists, engineers and students in the field of electronic materials all over the world, and promote the research and development of electronic materials in the world. Xi’an is a famous historical city located in central China. It was the national capital of 13 dynasties including Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang. It was also the starting point of the world famous “Silk Road”, and is listed as one of the four “Ancient Cultural Capitals in the world”. It is known as the “Natural History Museum” in which “The 8th Wonder in the World”-Qin Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses have been guarding the tomb of the First Qin Emperor for over 2000 years. One-day excursion to visit this and other famous sites is included in the conference program. In addition, optional post-conference tours are scheduled, which offer a good opportunity for participants to take part in technical visits and fantastic sightseeing in Xi’an , Baoji, Guilin and Dunhuang, in order to get a better understanding of the national culture and recent developments in China.

Convention Site The convention site is Xi’an Conference Center(XICC). XICC is located to the south of the famous Big Pagoda in the “Qu Jiang Tourism and Holiday Development District”, in the south part of the city. Occupying 200mu (approx 27 acres), it is 50 minutes by car from the Xi’an International Airport and 15 minutes from the Xi’an Railway Station.

Language English is the official spoken and written language of the conference

Abstracts of about 300-500 words should be submitted no later than Jan.31, 2002 to the Symposium Chairs and the Secretariat of IUMRS-ICEM2002. The abstracts should contain the titles of authors, the authors’ names and affiliations. And affiliations should include full mailing addresses, if possible, phone and fax numbers as well as e-mail addresses of the corresponding author. There are three ways of submitting the abstracts: 1. The best way is to send your abstract by email: [email protected] and symposium chair(first one) emails. 2. submitting your abstracts on a disk PC formatted 3.5”, in which the texts of your abstracts have been saved in the native format of the word processor (i.e., Word, Word Perfect, etc.) and send to: C-MRS Office 7 Baishiqiao Road, Beijing, 100081, China 3. on-line submission

Publication Abstracts: The Abstract Book will be published before conference and be available at conference. Proceedings: The proceeding of the full papers accepted will be published in corresponding journals mainly by Elsevier Science Ltd or be arranged to be published by Symposium Chairs. The full papers should be submitted at the conference and refereed according to the journal editor’s requirement. Only those papers which present at the conference by one of the authors and the quality of the papers (including language and content) meet the requirement of the journals can be published. The full papers are restricted to 8 printed pages (about 16 manuscript pages) for the invited papers and 4 printed pages (about 8 manuscript pages) for the contributed papers.
