CALENDAR OF EVENTS Tram Tour of the National Arboretum

Spring Luncheon

Date: Time: Place:

Plans are currently underway for the annual Spring Luncheon. Dates will depend on availability of a speaker. An announcement will appear on the Society’s web page as soon as the date is fixed and will be mailed together with a registration form to local members.

May 6, 2005 To be announced National Arboretum 3501 New York Ave., N.E.

The Society has again reserved a Tram for up to 48 people to admire the azaleas and other spring flowers on the Arboretum grounds. The tour takes about 40 minutes and will not make stops en route. Commentary will be by a docent or by tape. The Tram can accommodate 2 wheelchairs and 44 people. One of Washington’s lesser known treasures, the National Arboretum’s 446 acres of park land have something to offer the visitor at all times of the year. When its 5000 azaleas are in bloom, it is a wonderland not to be missed. In addition to the stunning variety of azaleas, there are nearly 40 other separate plant collections including the National Herb Garden and the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum, the oldest and most comprehensive museum of its kind in the Western world. Also located here are the National Capitol Columns rescued from demolition when the West Front of the Capitol building was extended mid-century. They appear to belong here as if returned to a long-lost home. Some of you may have seen Ansel Adams’ famous photograph of the columns in winter, never guessing where the picture was taken. Look out for the announcement and registration form in early April. Box lunches can be arranged on request.

Notices Senior Moment for Bulletin Editor A notice in the January Bulletin announced a change in e-mail for the Bulletin editor, Anne Vaughn. She hopes that not many of you have tried to send her e-mails at that address, which was wrong. The correct address for the Bulletin’s editor is: [email protected]. Special Hotel Rates for Retirees We would like to remind retirees that they can take advantage of the special hotel rates that have been negotiated by the Bank for staff members. These rates are available to retirees as well as staff anywhere in the world where the Bank has negotiated rates. At the moment, the list of these hotels is on-line and can only be accessed from computers within the Bank. However, retirees can contact travel counselors Cay Critz (tel. 202-458-1556; email: [email protected]) or David Smith (tel. 202-458-8161; e-mail: [email protected]) for information. To make reservations, a credit card number with the expiration date is required Improved Access to Retiree and Spouse Employment (RSEP) Information Task team leaders and task managers in the Bank can now search the RSEP when looking for consultants. This should expand opportunities for retirees who are seeking paid or unpaid employment with the Bank.

An application and additional information can be found on the Society’s web page.
