MUNICIPAL NEWS WORD OF THE MAYOR Dear Residents, With the intense cold that lasted from late fall until just a few weeks ago, as well as the quick and difficult thaw, we are well aware that some of the roads are in poor condition. When spring arrives, everything is done simultaneously. The rapid thaw has forced the roads' department crew to face many emergencies that required, more than usual, thawing several problematic culverts. This has disrupted the road grading schedule. The municipality and I have received several phone calls and several e-mails asking us to grade the gravel roads. You must understand that this work depends a lot on Mother Nature and emergencies that may arise. Grading the roads when it rains has the effect of making more ruts in the roads that freeze when temperatures drop, and we find ourselves in even more difficult situations when it thaws again. We ask you to please be patient and to slow down when driving on these roads. The roads' department is working hard to solve the problems as soon as possible, but again we ask you to be patient and give them time to do the needed repairs. As for Laroche road, we know that this road is used by many residents of the Lac Chevreuil area. As you know, this road belongs to the municipality of SaintColomban, however, the municipality of Gore took on some of the responsibility for its snow removal and maintenance. Some residents would like us to pressure StColomban into repairing this road. You must understand that this road is mainly used by residents of Gore and if it becomes too problematic for St-Colomban, they could block access at their municipal boundaries and there would be nothing we could do to stop them. Be assured that this is a priority for us and we are working toward finding a solution as soon as possible. Again, I ask you to be patient.

Hoping you all had a good winter and wishing you a great, sunny and warm summer.

As usual, you can send me your comments, suggestions or questions by email at [email protected] or call me at 514 941-2224. I will be happy to discuss this with you. Thank you. Your Mayor Scott Pearce

WORD FROM THE INSPECTORS With the arrival of spring, we would like to remind you that if you are considering renovations, construction, expansions, building a shed, etc., contact your municipal inspector to obtain a permit before starting your work. Don’t forget your car shelters must be taken down by May 15th, 2015. It’s the law! Please empty your septic tank every 2 years for permanent residents and every 4 years for part time residents and remember to send your receipts to the municipal office. Don’t forget…. It is forbidden to cut vegetation within 10 meters of a water way or lake. This is a municipal by-law respecting the MRC’s policy. If you have any questions or need help with your waterfront, please contact our environment and sustainable development inspector, Mathieu Madison, at 450 562-2025 extension 3532. Thank you.

MUNICIPAL NEWS WASTE MANAGEMENT With the arrival of spring and the time for seasonal household clean-up, it is appropriate to take stock of the management of waste. Did you know that the Municipality of the Township of Gore buried more than 750 tons of household waste in 2014? This represents nearly 500 kilograms of waste per home. The total cost for these services reached nearly $ 200,000 for 2014. These costs include the costs and charges related to the landfill. The more waste we send to the landfill, the more expensive it is for us! In 2014, we collected nearly 170 tons of recyclable materials in our recycling bins. The cost of collection, transportation and management of these materials are mostly covered by subsidies paid to us by the Government of Quebec, based on our performance. Therefore, the more we recycle, the more grant money we receive! We benefit from improving our performance in waste management. We need to reduce the amount of

waste sent to landfill and increase the amount of recyclable material. This is largely the residents' responsibility! Everyone can do their part to improve waste management and reduce cost for the municipality.

property by using a backyard composter or any other composting technique. This reduces the size of your garbage bags and provides compost for your garden.

Here are some examples of things you can do yourself to improve waste management:

Note that the municipality has also adopted a by-law to control optimal waste management and promote recycling. You could receive a notice if recyclable materials are found in your garbage.

• Place only garbage and waste for garbage collection. No recyclable material must be in your garbage; • Collect all recyclable material in your recycling bin for collection. This includes fibres, glass, plastic and metal; • Take advantage of free services at the municipal Ecocentre to recycle building materials (wood, shingles, metal, gypsum, etc.), electronics, engine oils, paints, propane tanks, tires and any other object or furniture in good condition. The Ecocentre diverts materials for reuse and recovery instead of sending them to landfills; • Consider the recovery of compostable waste on your

ECOCENTER Please note that as of May 20th 2015, the Ecocentre will be open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We ask that you not remove objects that are placed in the containers and to follow the Ecocentre employee's instructions. Only objects that are in the exchange dome are available to take home. Thank you for your understanding.

Monday May 25th 2015 12:15 PM Trinity Community Center 2, Cambria Road, Gore

MAY 2015

The Gore Seniors' Network joyfully celebrated its third anniversary on Monday March 30th. As usual, community seniors were at their regular "Eat and Greet". Since March 2011, their constant attendance at this friendly event, confirms its success and adds to our motivation. It is with great enthusiasm that we enter a 4th year. We wish to thank our generous donors for the year 2014: The Friends of Gore Leisure Committee has supported us from the beginning with their annual fundraiser in December.

Through this activity, where profits were entirely given to us, we have existed. Unfortunately, 2014 was their last year. Thank you Diane, Marcel and the volunteers. Thank you to the Holy Trinity Church, Lynne and her Dancercise group, Ms. Betty-Ann Cochrane and Brûlerie des Monts who graciously offered coffee and Kern's restaurant for having provided us with some of their delicious soups. Thank you to all the sponsors who contributed to our special events. A special thank you to Mary and Terry Chuprun for their outstanding dedication to Vie Active. Thank you very much to our dedicated volunteers: Cécilia Gionet, Sylvie Barsalo, Lynne Sylvestre, France Jobin, Ginette Périard, Charlotte Elder, Richard Gibeau and Vitor Sabino.
