What Does It Mean To LIVE UNITED? It means acknowledging that whether we know a child on the other side of town or not, it’s important for that child to grow up to be a contributing member of our community. The successful education of every child is critical to the well-being of our town, our region, and our nation. It means understanding that when anyone in our community struggles financially, it affects prosperity for us all. It means recognizing that poor nutrition, substance abuse, floods and fires have ripple effects that touch every life, and that by working together we can change the conditions that contribute to these problems. Because we have a stake in our community, we have a responsibility to do our part. When we use our voices, our time and our resources to support education, financial stability, and good health for everyone, we LIVE UNITED. Within each of us is the power to change the life of another. Working together we magnify our impact. And focusing on the building blocks of a good quality of life – Education, Financial Stability, and Health – creates pathways to success that benefit all. You have been a generous Summit Society contributor in the past. SUMMIT SOCIETY United Way of Northern Arizona’s Summit Society is comprised of active community investors who give $500 or more annually. The strength of the Summit Society lies in each member’s belief that the Northern Arizona community is worthy of significant personal investment. Their generosity reflects a strong commitment to the mission of United Way of Northern Arizona, “Improving lives by mobilizing communities to create lasting changes in community conditions.” The Summit Society has seen steady growth in membership since it was founded in 1992. WE ALL HAVE A STAKE IN CREATING A HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS COMMUNITY

Summit Society leads the way for lasting community change in northern Arizona. The year of 2013 has been one of “Imagineering” a stronger community through your support of the United Way of Northern Arizona. Imagine that our children can go to school ready to learn and not hungry; imagine that families have a safe place to live; imagine that community members experiencing crisis are able to regain and maintain good health and financial stability; imagine that substance abuse and underage drinking are reduced. Now engineer and implement the strategies that can bring imagination and reality into alignment. The result is the work of the United Way of Northern Arizona, creating long lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of these problems. And on the front line of creating lasting change are the donors at the Summit Society level. Each member believes that the health of our northern Arizona community is worthy of a significant personal investment. As community leaders, they understand that they are advancing the common good by helping to create opportunities for a better life for all. By donating $500 or more each year, Summit Society members provide the core of funding for the collaborations and initiatives within the key areas of education, income, and health and have the largest impact on the success of these goals.

It’s hard to imagine a better place to live than Northern Arizona. But it’s relatively easy to imagine how this place could be even better. The United Way of Northern Arizona is in the business of leading an imagineering effort to build a better community. Imagineering is a combination of imagining a better future, engineering a plan to get there, volunteering to make the changes, and giving to make the work possible. Here’s some of the accomplishments of the past year’s Imagineering: More than 500 needy children have been receiving a book in the mail every month as a part of the partnership between United Way and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Nearly 300 children got a boost toward school readiness through the Kindercamp outreach of United Way. Volunteers from the United Way filled thousands of sand bags to assist our neighbors when the monsoon brought flooding once again. In last year’s tax season, United Way volunteers helped people in our community claim over $3.3 million through the VITA program. And through other partnerships with the United Way, more than 100,000 hot meals were served.
