Press Portfolio TEXtiles SL | Press Release 2 Hamelin, May 2015

TEXtiles SL: NO LIMIT TO DESIGN Vorwerk flooring is opening up new horizons for creative floor design with TEXtiles SL, the new modular collection of carpet tiles. Unique shapes, colours and one-of-a-kind articles in this innovative product line support architects, spatial planners and interior designers in making their design concepts a reality, right down to the last detail. Working together with renowned designers Werner Aisslinger and Hadi Teherani, tiles arose in highly expressive and diversely combinable geometries. The free-form shapes by Aisslinger and Teherani along with a line of rectangular formats are available in completely new worlds of colour and a variety of textures to achieve surprising point-of-view effects. The result: The floor is turned into a distinctive spatial element, an integral part of an architectural synthesis of the arts. The co-operative effort with designer Werner Aisslinger and architect/designer Hadi Teherani gave the impetus for Vorwerk flooring to add a brand-new facet to the topic of floor architecture: Aisslinger’s most recent designs enhance the form language of TEXtiles SL by contributing new geometries and options for combining them. They enable a degree of freedom in individualised design that had been heretofore unknown. Calm, rhythmic repeat patterns and vivid, graphically oriented compositions are equally available to choose from. Uniquely new images, structures and worlds of colour originate by combining the different carpet-tile elements. From strict linearity straight through to refinements gained by alternating patterns, textures and cross-line combinations: TEXtiles SL turn the floor into a veritable

canvas’.

EXPRESSIVE SHAPES Werner Aisslinger has designed 6 new freely styled shapes which are being offered under the designation “FREE-FORM”: The expressive geometries entitled “TRAPEZ”,

PAGE 2/6

“DARTS” and “DIAMONDS” generate a surprising, three-dimensional effect caused by the interplay between colour and shape. Their impact on perspective is astonishing and sophisticatedly contrasted due to the change in surface texture. “TRIPOD” and “PRISMA” are reminiscent of the chains in molecular structures; they bring a discriminating spectrum to the field of floor architecture. “STRIPE” takes the shape of a classic wooden plank and interprets it anew. Bevelled angular ends break up the linear alignment, enabling the possibility for vibrantly dynamic looks. The ‘tried-and-true’ free-form carpet tiles “CRYSTAL_S”, “CRYSTAL_L” and “PARTITION” by Hadi Teherani, which had already co-shaped the programme at Vorwerk in the SCALE/FreeSCALE collection back in 2008, are equally a part of the current comprehensive TEXtiles SL collection, as well as in FREE-FORM. New variations in textures and more extensive colour variations mean that individual tiles can now be combined with even greater diversity. As for the rectangular standard formats in PARTS (50 x 50 cm, 100 x 25 cm, 100 x 50 and 100 x 100 cm), here too completely new effects can be attained by combining structures and colours. Even the smallest modifications allow TEXtiles SL to give a fully new impact to a room. OUT-OF-THE-ORDINARY: ARTIST’S PORTFOLIO INSTEAD OF CASE Vorwerk is setting off on brand-new directions with the presentation for the TEXtiles SL collection: Rather than being esconced in a classic collection case, the shapes, colours and textures are being presented to the trade in the form of an artist’s portfolio. This out-of-the-ordinary approach underscores the products’ highly valued craftsmanship and quality design standard. The clear-cut structuring within the portfolio and appealing visual preparation of the shapes and articles result in a distinct, self-explanatory portrayal of the possibilities for application; to the benefit of all users. Above and beyond this, there are also architects’ cards and high-quality brochures directed towards architects as a target group. The collection has been on the market since the spring of 2015. ECOLOGICAL FROM THE VERY START With SCALE and FreeSCALE, its initial lines of carpet tiles, Vorwerk had already brought a pathbreaking innovation onto the market that is now being equally utilised in the newly composed comprehensive collection for TEXtiles SL. Vorwerk TEXtiles technology is an innovative, environmentally conscionable coating method for heavily backed (SL) tiles suitable for replacing the PVC or bitumen backing that had been

PAGE 3/6

customary for tiles until now, yet without a loss of accustomed properties for usage. The innovation thereby: a new type of synthetic secondary backing comprised of a strongly needled and calendered polyester liner. The backing is completely recyclable and, despite a savings of up to 30 per cent less weight in comparison to conventional tiles using PVCs and bitumen, exhibits the best attributes for laying and a high degree of stability. Progressive and forward-looking in one, the backing is Green Label+ certified. A heavy-duty polyolefin layer containing a multiaxial glass fabric is worked into the TEXtiles coating in order to achieve the designated weight for heavily backed tiles. This heavy-duty coaTEX layer consists of up to 60 per cent recycled material. Thanks to state-of-the-art production methods, TEXtiles SL carpet tiles conserve resources particularly well and are manufactured in an ecologically sound manner. The processing of recycled material reduces the consumption of raw materials, while the use of nearly carbon-neutral energy during the manufacturing process along with the full recycling capability of all products provides an added plus for the environment, too. TEXtiles SL tiles contribute towards improving the energy balance-sheet of a building: They are suitable for underfloor heating, for instance, yet they additionally store up to 10 per cent of spatial heat. This means that they help to diminish CO2 emissions throughout their entire product lifetime. The tiles offer a high degree of walking comfort and, thanks to their sound-absorbing product construction, optimal acoustic properties as well. What’s more, TEXtiles SL are odour-free due to their textile nature and have been certified by GUI, the German Society for the Environment and Interior Analysis, for their “reduction of fine dust particles in indoor air.” When it comes to environmental protection, utmost transparency ranks first and foremost at Vorwerk flooring. The company subjects itself to regular voluntary environmental operation audits which are certified in compliance with DIN ISO 14001, a standard for environmental management systems recognised worldwide. Vorwerk flooring is thus undertaking one step further in realising its economic goals while simultaneously assuming ecological responsibility for the environment in alignment with the concept of sustainability according to international standards. This is evidenced not least of all by the Environmental Report published annually by the company. DIVERSITY THROUGH DIFFERENT CARPET PRODUCTS The TEXtiles SL product line is comprised of 8 carpet-tile articles, each of which has a unique look and feel. The revised TEXtiles SL collection offers a range totalling 110 colour schemes made up of 5 velour and 3 loop-pile articles. The 4 plain-hued “Uni”

carpet tiles are linked to one another via a specially co-ordinated colour concept. A total of 10 worlds of colour have been created that extend from cool to warm shades of grey and beige (non-spectrals) and on to fresh hues in yellow, blue, green and red (spectrals). As a result, all of the carpet-tile products can be combined with each other harmoniously while setting accents at the same time. In the case of the articles bearing designs, graphically aligned patterns displaying refreshing coloured accents alternate with non-directional spatial designs in a sophisticated grey and a distinctive blue. Arena SL – proven loop-pile article with discreet mottling A proven classic, “Arena SL” is a finely even loop pile with a discreet mottling that brings forth iridescent effects on the carpet’s surface. In terms of colouration, an elegant aubergine violet and vibrant nuances of aqua along with dynamic shades of green round out the classic palettes in grey and beige. Available in 17 plain hues. Contura Creation SL – Impressions of ruffled water surfaces The loop pile entitled “Contura Creation SL” is a solution-dyed carpet available in 12 colours. Three different designs lend the product its fascinating look. Always kept in the traditional basic colours grey or black, different-coloured yarns in a fine silver, aqua blue, orange and green are crafted into the pile. The carpet’s contrast varies; the refined patterning that arises is reminiscent of a water surface ruffled by wind or a herringbone design. Contura Design SL – artful starry sky and distinctive stripes “Contura Design SL” is a finely crafted loop pile in solution-dyed quality with 2 out-ofthe-ordinary designs in 6 colours. A discreet variation is offered by a reserved yet complex design displaying an irregularly dispersed rhomboid grid in muted colours. The discreet basic hues in black, grey and grey-brown are combined with silvery shimmering yarns reminiscent of a starry sky or a lush, verdant green, both rich in contrasts. Two multilayered, trend-oriented stripe designs exhibiting lively colours allow for a more distinctive floor design: Fine lines made up of variegated shades offer the possibility to set accents in a room. Elara SL – luxury for the floor A tufted velour, “Elara SL” has a longer pile in a luxuriously soft look and is available in muted shades of beige and grey. The colour spectrum encompasses 24 plain hues and is enhanced by a selection of nuances in up-to-date aqua, green and red, and topped off by a rich warm curry hue. Depending on the colour chosen, the twisted yarn used lends

PAGE 5/6

“Elara SL” a discreet mottling and a shaggy look. Forma SL – multifaceted and resilient The short-pile, even velour named “Forma SL” offers a choice of 15 colours: tasteful shades for ‘homey’ effects and striking hues typical of the business-site sector. What’s more, “Forma SL” distinguishes itself due to its extreme resilience thanks to its particularly dense velour surface. Frisea SL – sophisticated look due to multicoloured yarns Carpets full of character, a frieze is tufted from different dyeable yarns. Depending on the combination of dyes used, it ends up with anything from a discreet to a strong mottling that elicits intriguing effects. The palette of greys appears in a harmonising tone in tone, the vibrant accenting colours obtain their especially sophisticated look due to a fascinating multiple colouration. The range presented includes up-to-date nuances in aqua blue, a fresh green, a brilliant orange and aubergine violet. Its frieze nature and the product’s high density impart a particularly costly aura to “Frisea SL”, whereby extreme durability is guaranteed as well. Strada SL & Strada Design SL – finely structured, harmonious pinstripes “Strada SL” is a loop-pile article that bears a linear structure. Fine and coarser loops adjoin to form a pattern reminiscent of pinstripes. Six different colours are available. “Strada Design SL” sets itself apart due to an arrangement of stripes in different widths set in the colour schemes for “Strada SL”. Unique tone-in-tone combinations can arise owing to the colour co-ordination between the design patterns. The palette comprised of classic tones in grey and brown is supplemented by violet, green, red and blue.
