CONTAINS Solvent. Individuals with lung or breathing problems or prior reaction to solvents must not be exposed to vapor or spray mist. Use only with adequate ventilation. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Vapor may cause flash fire. Do not smoke. FIRST AID MEASURES EYE CONTACT: In case of contact, flush eyes with plenty of lukewarm water. Get medical attention if irritation develops. SKIN CONTACT: In case of skin contact, wash affected areas with soap and water. Immediately remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Seek medical attention if irritation develops and persists. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.

INHALATION: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention if irritation develops. INGESTION: If ingested, do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Please contact RockSolid Floors® Technical Support, toll free at 866-765-4474 with any questions or concerns. Or visit us online: www.rocksolidfloors.com. CONDITIONS: Before you begin the process of preparing the floor for coating it is important to follow the tests below to ensure proper coating adhesion. ATTENTION: Do not apply in direct sunlight. TESTING FOR SEALER: You need to determine if the concrete has been previously sealed by utilizing a simple test of pouring a small amount of water onto the surface in various areas of the floor. If the water beads,

a sealer is present and needs to be either chemically or mechanically removed with a diamond grinder available at a local rental store. Please visit www.rocksolidfloors.com for more information and recommendations PREVIOUSLY COATED FLOORS: If the floor has been previously coated, you need to determine if the coating is well adhered to the surface. If it is, you can coat over the previous coating if you completely de-gloss the surface using 40-80 grit sand paper and wipe the surface down with MEK. Please make sure to wear the proper protective equipment and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Mechanical grinding will be necessary to remove coatings that show any signs of delamination from the surface. If the existing coating is failing in any way (peeling, chipping, flaking, etc.) RockSolid Floors® highly recommends removing the entire coating and starting the application process with fresh, clean, dry concrete. Contact your local hardware store for information on grinder rental.

1

TESTING FOR COATING ADHESION: 1. With a razor blade, cut an X through the coating and down to the concrete. 2. Apply a 5” piece of tape over the X and press down firmly. 3. Completely remove the tape with one quick pull. 4. If more than 10% of the taped area is removed, the original coating is not bonded well and needs to be removed chemically or mechanically with a diamond grinder.

Warning

If you sand or remove old coatings, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. Exposure to lead dust can cause serious illness such as brain damage, especially in children. Pregnant women should also avoid exposure. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead. TESTING FOR MOISTURE: Apply a 3’ x 3’ sheet of plastic (such as a heavy duty garbage bag or plastic sheeting) to an area of the floor. Tape down the edges and allow it to sit for 24 to 48 hours. If water droplets appear on the inside of the plastic or if concrete appears wet

2

(darker in color), the moisture in the concrete is too high. RockSolid Moisture Stop™ can be used to remedy this problem prior to coating. See www.rocksolidfloors.com for more information. WARNING: DO NOT APPLY PRODUCT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: The ideal temperature range when working with RockSolid Diamond Coat® is 40°F-90°F (4°C-32°C). Warmer temperatures will shorten working time. Cooler temperatures will require longer cure times. Preparation of the concrete using the RockSolid Safe Etch™ should not be attempted below 40°F. This preparation method involves using water to flush the surface and could cause the formation of unwanted frost or extended dry times at temperatures near freezing. ATTENTION: If it is raining or if extremely damp conditions exist it is not recommended to coat the floor. Concrete substrate must be completely dry at the time of application to achieve proper adhesion. Although Etching is always the best method of prep, it is not required on concrete inside your home. If etching is not possible on your interior concrete, please reference the “Concrete Inspection” and “Prior to Etching” section in our instructions and make sure to remove any contaminants prior to coating.

ATTENTION Although Etching is always the best method of prep, it is not required on concrete inside your home. If etching is not possible on your interior concrete, please reference the “Concrete Inspection” and “Prior to Etching” section in our instructions and make sure to remove any contaminants prior to coating. CONCRETE INSPECTION: Concrete is different in many areas of the country. Some concrete is especially hard, which will require extra etching to provide an anchor for your RockSolid Polycuramine™ Interior Floor Coating Systems. If you have soft and chalky concrete or areas of the concrete that have spalling, chipping or cracking, use the RockSolid Fast Patch™ or other RockSolid Floors® repair materials to repair and level out the floor prior to coating. PRIOR TO ETCHING: Tire dressing and other hidden contaminates carried in from vehicles will cause issues with the coatings adhesion. Prior to etching the floor, locate areas where the tires are when the vehicle is parked and test them by spraying water on them. If there are areas where water beads on the surface, it represents a possible contaminate (oil, wax or tire dressing) that must be treated prior to coating. Utilize the RockSolid Safe-Etch™ at 100% concentrate to the area of contamination and rinse thoroughly. The use of a palm or belt sander with 80 grit sandpaper

is also recommended. If water continues to bead on the surface, re-treat the area again until the beading stops. The water should soak in and penetrate readily to show that the concrete is ready for coating. If there are considerable contaminated areas that require the application of the 100% concentrate of etching solution, it will be necessary to purchase additional RockSolid Safe-Etch™ to complete the etching of the main concrete slab. CONCRETE PREPARATION: Use the RockSolid Safe-Etch Solution™ (optional) to open the pores of the concrete, to provide the proper adhesion required for a long lasting floor. The etching is required on all UNCOATED concrete floors, old or new. DO NOT ETCH PARTIALLY COATED CONCRETE SLABS. While the etching will prepare the concrete, cleaning is to be done prior to the etching using RockSolid Floors Oil Destroyer™. If utilizing a pressure washer to clean the floor, please make sure to wear the proper protective equipment and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Wood PREPARATION: Using 80 grit sandpaper, sand wood surface to remove mil glaze, sealers and or varnishes. Vacuum and wipe clean with solvent. Tile PREPARATION: Using 80 grit sandpaper, completely degloss the surface. Vacuum and wipe clean with solvent.

impact of Muriatic Acid is not the only reason why RockSolid Floors® chooses to use an alternative etching solution. Muriatic Acid can have a negative impact on the condition of your concrete as well. Improper, or lack of NEUTRALIZATION of the surface once you are finished etching will result in a high pH level in your concrete that can cause premature failure of any coating system. RockSolid Floors® recommends the use of the RockSolid Safe-Etch™ (optional). This product is not intended for exterior use. Use tape to keep areas such as wood trim, metal garage door rails, floor drains, door frames, etc. clean. These items may be hard to cut in around and you may get some coating on them. The most important area to protect when installing in a garage will be the termination point under the garage door. Use two strips of Duct Tape (blue masking tape will not adhere to concrete) to create a straight line that will be covered when the garage door is lowered. Do not install the RockSolid Polycuramine™ Interior Floor Coating Systems outside the garage door. It is not intended for exterior use. Keep children and pets indoors and away from the work area at all times during the installation. Make sure to read and follow all safety guidelines during all phases of application.

Thoroughly sweep out all dust and dirt on the floor and apply a mist of water to the surface. The concrete should accept the water evenly and consistently across the entire surface to be coated. If there are areas of beading on the surface, it represents a possible contaminate (oil, wax or tire dressing). These areas need to be cleaned with RockSolid Oil Destroyer™ prior to etching the floor. Scrub the area with a stiff bristled broom, rinse and inspect again. If water continues to bead on the surface, re-treat the stain and scrub again until water no longer beads in that area. Once you have determined that water is no longer beading on the surface, you are now ready to etch the concrete. Please see recommended safety practices located on container. Mix the contents of the RockSolid Safe-Etch Solution™ according to mix ratio (3 parts water to 1 part Safe-Etch). Slowly add the mixed product to a plastic watering can. Working in a 10’ x 10’ section of the floor, pour out the etching solution evenly on the floor. Scrub the solution around with a stiff bristle broom. Upon initial application of the Safe-Etch a frothing should occur for a few seconds while being scrubbed. If the concrete does not froth it means that there is a sealer on the floor and it must be chemically or mechanically removed as previously discussed.

MURATIC ACID: Muriatic Acid is just that, an acid. It is harmful to use and harmful to the environment. The health and environmental

3

TIP: The plastic watering can is key for even distribution of the Safe-Etch. When the frothing stops, rinse off the solution and move on to the next section. When all sections are completed, rinse three times and scrub with a stiff bristle broom while rinsing. To speed up the drying process, use a floor squeegee to push all excess water to the center of the floor then vacuum up. Do not leave pooled water on the floor. Let the floor dry at least 2 to 4 hours or overnight with the door open so air will move over the surface.

4

TIP: In addition to a squeegee and wet/dry vacuum, use a fan to speed up the drying process. It is imperative that the floor be completely dry before applying any coatings. Failure to follow this warning will create application issues and possible product failure.

COVERAGE: The porosity of the concrete being coated and the application technique will affect coverage rate. This RockSolid Floors® Kit provides the materials generally required to cover 250 sq. ft. of concrete. This product is designed to be applied with the RockSolid 9” Foam Roller™ (sold separately). Application of this material to stairs, vertical surfaces or to wood will have reduced coverage rates.

Mixing Instructions MIX ONLY ONE POUCH AT A TIME Attention

For installations that will involve multiple kits, combine ALL the Color Tint Cans together before adding to the pouch material. To do so, pour ALL the individual color tints into a large plastic mixing container and blend together with a paint stick until a uniform color is achieved. Then pour the tint back into the color tint containers evenly and add to the pouch material one at a time. This will ensure uniform color over the entire surface.

A. Place tarp on the ground and thoroughly mix the material in the pouch by shaking it (both up and down and back and forth) and squeezing each side of the pouch. Any clumps need to be massaged to break them up and blend them in with the rest of the coating. Do this to all pouches so that they are ready when you need them. B. Combine the two components by placing the pouch on the ground and rolling it from the Part A side towards the Part B side like a tube of toothpaste. This will create pressure in the Part A side and force the middle seal to burst, allowing the two components to mix together. Thoroughly mix the materials by shaking the pouch back and forth and squeezing the edges

and corners towards the center of the pouch. Mixing should be done for at least one (1) minute. At this point the product is activated and must be used within 1 hour. ATTENTION: Each Polycuramine™ pouch will have a 1 hour pot life. That means you have 1 hour to apply this product to the concrete. Pot life will vary due to temperature. As temperatures rise above 80 degrees pot life will be shortened. Temperature

C. Once the material is thoroughly mixed, use a scissors to cut a corner off of the pouch. Then pour the entire contents of the pouch into an empty bucket making sure to squeeze the pouch to remove all the material.

Attention

MIX ONLY ONE POUCH AND ADD ONLY ONE COLOR SHOT AT A TIME. Add the Color Shot™ by pouring the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the container into the mixing bucket, use a paint stick to scrape the sides to get all of the tint out. Using a paddle mixer and a drill, thoroughly mix the tint in for 30-60 seconds. Make sure at some point to scrape sides of the bucket to ensure all components and tint are thoroughly mixed together.

6

Application ATTENTION: Use only a RockSolid 9” Foam Roller™ to apply this product. Also, DO NOT pour material into a roller pan. This product is not designed to be applied out of a roller pan Pour the mixed material from the bucket on the floor about a foot from the back corner wall in roughly 4’-5’ ribbons. Make sure the ribbon are at least 2-3” wide. Using a 3” paint brush, cut the material in around the perimeter on half the area to be coated. Using the 9” Foam Roller, apply material in 4’ x 4’ sections in an even coat across the floor using an “M & W” pattern. This pattern will provide the most uniform results. Continue to thoroughly roll this material in even coats to a uniform finish. If the product seems to be “see-through” continue to work the material with the roller until a solid color is achieved. Pour material as needed to

continue to coat the floor. When nearing the end of the batch, use a paint stick to remove any remaining material onto the floor. Avoid creating thick spots while overlapping into previously coated areas by pouring your new ribbon of product approx. 2 feet away from the coated area. Use the roller to pull the material back towards you first, then it can be pushed forward to fill in the void between the sections. Repeat the above steps for each additional pouch. DO NOT pour ribbons of material over control joints or roll over control joints. Control joints are not meant to be coated with this material. Use flexible control joint fill material if desired. ANTI-SLIP: For a nonslip coating finish use RockSolid Anti-Slip™ (per instructions) or dry silica sand. Do not mix dry silica sand into product. Broadcast dry silica sand by grabbing small pinches between your index finger and thumb and throwing it up in the air over the wet coating as you go.

Partial Chip Installation Using RockSolid Decorative Chips Once a strip across the entire back wall has been coated, you may broadcast the RockSolid Floors Decorative Chip™ if desired. Do so by grabbing small pinches of chip between your index finger and thumb and throwing it up in the air over the wet coating. The density or coverage of the chip thrown should be kept consistent throughout the floor for the most uniform finish. It will be important when broadcasting the chip to leave a wet edge. This is a 6”-12” section of the coated floor that will not receive chip until the next section of coating is applied and rolled into the wet edge, allowing for a seamless application. Once the next section has been rolled you may

broadcast chip again and continue this process throughout the floor, cutting in edges as you go. Up to 0.5 lbs. of chip can be used per 250 sq. ft. without adding an additional topcoat. For heavier chip coverage and increased texture on the floor, additional decorative chips can be used to complete a Heavy Partial Chip Installation. The application process will be unchanged except for one key point – if this option is chosen the floor MUST BE SEALED USING THE ROCKSOLID FLOORS DIAMOND COAT® in order to protect the heavier broadcast of chips. For best results install the Clear Top Coat as soon as the basecoat is able to be walked on or within 7 days of the initial application as long as the floor is cleaned. RockSolid Floors® suggests a maximum chip broadcast of 2.5 lbs. for

EACH RockSolid Diamond Coat® Solid Color Kit installed (250 square feet coverage). The density or coverage of the chip thrown should be kept consistent throughout the floor for the most uniform finish. It will be important when broadcasting the chip to leave a wet edge. Attention

MIX ONLY ONE POUCH AND ADD ONLY ONE COLOR SHOT AT A TIME. Add the Metallic Color Tint™ by pouring the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the container into the mixing bucket. Using a paddle mixer and a drill, thoroughly mix the tint in for 30-60 seconds. Make sure to scrape the sides of the bucket with supplied paint stick to ensure all components and tint are thoroughly mixed together during the mixing process.

Application ATTENTION: Use a 1/2” nap woven polyamide roller to apply this product. Also, do not pour material into a roller pan. This product is not designed to be applied out of a roller pan NOTE: DO NOT OVER SPREAD MATERIAL. EACH BURST POUCH IS DESIGNED TO COVER 125 SF. Pour the mixed material from the bucket on the floor about a foot from the back corner wall in roughly 4’-5’ ribbons. Make sure the ribbon is at least 3-4” wide. Using a 3” paint brush, cut the material in around the perimeter on half the area to be coated. Using the Roller, apply material in 5’ x 5’ sections in an even coat across the floor using an “M & W” pattern. This pattern will provide the most uniform results. NOTE: The material on the floor might be somewhat “see through”. You most likely will see some concrete through the coating system at this point. This is normal. Once one full section width across the floor is done, for example, 5’ x 20’, use the roller to put circular patterns in the

floor (like applying wax to a car). This will make the majority of the coating system look opaque (not see through) and will give you the best result. Continue to pour ribbons of material and apply in 5’ x 5’ sections to repeat the process above. When nearing the end of the batch, use a paint stick to remove any remaining material onto the floor. Avoid creating thick spots while overlapping into previously coated areas by pouring your new ribbon of product approximately 2 feet away from the previously coated area. Make sure at some point to scrape sides of the bucket to ensure all components and tint are thoroughly mixed together.

Application Using the 9” Dualie Roller Kit™ Attention

Before use, the Color System Roller should be de-linted using duct tape. do not wrap the tape around the roller, rather wrap the tape around your hand with the sticky side facing out and lightly dab into the roller and/or sweep the surface to remove any loose hairs. This is a thick nap roller of high quality but should always be cleaned using this method before use. A. Pour the two individually tinted containers into separate sides of the Color System Roller Tray. Add just enough material to fill each chamber until the colors are almost in contact with each other. After filling, set aside the mixed material buckets out of the way until more product is needed in the roller pan. B. Cut in the edges by using a 3” chip brush, dipped in a small amount of each color simultaneously, to blot along the edges (Once you start with the roller application, run the roller lightly along the edge of the wall with each color).

C. Saturate the Roller with the two tinted materials in the roller pan. Do not push down on the roller as this will cause it to thicken up and reduce the texture that can be achieved. Get just enough material on the roller to fully color each side.

Remember which side of the roller goes in which color and be consistent, failure to do this will blend the colors too much. As a general rule, the metal roller frame should always be on the right side of the pan when dipping the roller.

D. The first stroke of the roller should be a large (3’ x 3’) M and W pattern to spread the material out. There should be little to no pressure applied to the roller during this step. Once the M and W pattern has been applied, immediately rotate 90 degrees and roll in the opposite direction of the first roll, using short 6” to 12” strokes. For best results, change roller direction continuously while spreading the material lightly with the roller. For each dip of the roller, you should be able to cover about 25 square feet (5’ x 5’ area). This will keep the application rates on target to apply the material properly.

Do not to “over roll” the coating as it will cause unwanted blurring of the two colors. The goal is to leave the floor totally covered (no concrete showing through) but with a two-tone finish. Continue this process until the entire area has been coated, adding more material to the pan when necessary. Additional rollers may be required for larger areas to keep the roller from stiffening up and changing the texture of the floor. On average, a roller will be able to coat 500 sf. If the roller gets sticky or hard to work with, change it out. Repeat the above steps for each additional pouch. Do not roll over control joints.

11

Cure Time Depending on temperature and humidity, (based on 80°F, 50% humidity) the average cure time is 8-10 hours for foot traffic, 24 hours for heavy use. Due to the varying nature of vehicle tires and temperature swings, drive on times may vary. It is recommended to wait at least 36 hours for vehicle traffic. Lower temperatures will require longer cure times. The coating will need to be dry to allow foot traffic before applying an optional clear topcoat. Do not walk on the coating while it is still tacky, as you could put permanent footprints in the floor.

12

Use caution tape to block off all points of entry to avoid accidental contamination of the wet coating. Do not use service doors or lower garage doors all the way before the coating has fully cured. The best way to test for cure is to touch the coating in the last area that was coated and see if it has tacked over. It should not feel sticky to the touch and no color should come up on your fingers. Air movement and heating the environment can help the coating to cure faster, but be careful when using fans to circulate air as this could cause unwanted contaminants to get stuck in the wet coating.

Clean Up Dispose of rollers and brushes according to local regulations. Allow unused product to harden and dispose of according to local regulations. Frequently Asked Questions Q: When I used the etching solution the concrete did not froth. What would cause this?

A: The etching solution needs to come in

contact directly with the bare concrete to chemically react and dissolve the thin layer on the surface. This contact can be inhibited by concrete sealers, tire dressing, oil contamination, or existing coatings.

14

SOLUTION – Typically preparing the surface by mechanical means such as diamond grinding or aggressive sanding can remove the sealers, etc. Oil contamination, tire dressing and other bond breakers must be thoroughly cleaned off using a heavy duty degreaser prior to the concrete preparation phase. Grinding equipment can be rented at most local hardware stores if needed. Keep in mind that if the concrete does need to be ground to remove sealers, etc. that the porosity of the concrete will increase and the coverage rate of the kit will decrease. It may be necessary to purchase additional kits to account for this in some cases.

Q: When I rolled over certain areas of the

floor the product separated and created “fish eyes”. What could have happened here?

A: “Fish eyeing” or separation of the coating

Q: I was unable to get the specified

coverage rate. What are the possible reasons for this?

A: The RockSolid Diamond Coat

® kit was designed to be installed over etched concrete. Older concrete with more porosity will “drink up” more material while you are trying to roll it to an opaque consistency, therefore limiting the spread rate. Grinding will create the same increased porosity and require more material to reach the desired finish.

is due to contaminants on the surface – most likely oil spots or silicone based products like tire dressing. While these areas are supposed to be treated before the preparation and application phase, sometimes they are missed.

SOLUTION - If you catch it right away while you are rolling, you can use a solvent such as MEK or acetone to thoroughly remove the product and scrub the floor. Allow the solvent to flash off, then roll over the area multiple times with material on the roller. You may need to repeat the process until the material no longer separates. If you do not notice these areas until the floor coating has cured, you will need to aggressively scuff sand the areas to remove any residual coating, then use a heavy duty degreaser to clean the surface. The area can be re-etched if needed to profile the concrete. Allow the surface to dry and re-apply the coating in a thin and even coat, feathering into the existing coating without coating over it.

SOLUTION – If you are going to be coating over old concrete or plan to grind the floor to either remove a sealer or existing coating, it is suggested to purchase an additional kit (or 2 depending on the size of the floor) so that you do not run out before completion. Stretching the material to get to the end could result in a transparent (seethrough) section that does not match the rest of the floor and will have decreased performance characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions (continued) Q: I got some of the coating on my skin, how Q: How can the coating be done in sections? can it be removed?

A: Protective gloves are to be worn during the application phase, but it is understandable to get some on your arms or clothes while applying the material.

SOLUTION – If you can catch the material before it cures (within 15-20 minutes of the occurrence) it can be removed using a solvent such as MEK or acetone. It may be difficult to remove from clothes – so wear something that you don’t mind getting dirty. Once the material cures it is basically permanent to a point. Solvents will no longer take it off, as it is chemically resistant to them once cured. Aggressive scrubbing under warm water may break the material free from the skin and some reddening from agitation might be seen as a result.

A: SOLUTION – If coating in sections is

required use duct tape as a stopping point. Remove tape before coating cures. Do not coat over the section that is cured. Place tape on top of the coated section duct tape as your stopping point. Once the next section is coated remove tape. Do not allow coating to cure over the tape.

ATTENTION Although Etching is always the best method of prep, it is not required on concrete inside your home. If etching is not possible on your interior concrete, please reference the “Concrete Inspection” and “Prior to Etching” section in our instructions and make sure to remove any contaminants prior to coating.

R: El Escudo Kit RockSolid Diamond
