NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY CALICUT KOZHIKODE – 673601 TECHNICAL EDUCATION QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (TEQIP – II) -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------APPOINTMENT OF TRAINERS FOR STUDENTS ON PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION TERMS OF REFERENCE (TOR) FOR TRAINERS FOR STUDENTS ON PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION Position : Professional Communication Trainer (Firm) Organization : National Institute of Technology Calicut Duty Station : National Institute of Technology Calicut Duration : January 2017 – March 2017 1. BACKGROUND: National Institute of Technology Calicut is an Institute National important under the NIT Act 2007.Technical Educational Quality Improvement Programme Phase-II is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) of the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) and is extended to around 20 States and 200 institutions. Central Government will finance 75% of the costs and the State Government the remaining 25%, unless the State is a Special Category State, in which case it finances 90% of the costs. For NIT Calicut 100% of the finance will be received from the Central Government. NIT Calicut wishes to conduct intensive program in professional communication for beneficiary of students who need to strengthening the interpersonal and communication ability to enhance the professional competency 2. PROJECT COMPONENTS: Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme – Phase-II is composed of the following components and sub-components: 1. Component 1: Improving Quality of Education in Selected Institutions a) Sub-Component 1.1: Strengthening Institutions to improve learning outcomes and employability of graduates b) Sub-Component 1.2: Scaling-up Post Graduate education and DemandDriven Research & Development and Innovation c) Sub-Sub Component 1.2.1: Establishing Centres of Excellence d) Sub-Component 1.3: Faculty Development for Effective Teaching (Pedagogical Training) 2. Component 2: Improving System Management a) Sub-Component 2.1: Capacity Building to Strengthen Management b) Sub-Component 2.2: Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation 3. OBJECTIVE OF HIRING PROFESSIONAL SERVICES: It has been observed that some of the students who are hailing from diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds and who have taken admission in the undergraduate programmes of the institute need help in strengthening their life skills. It is also observed that some of these students who lack communication skills in English face issues of coping up with the curriculum and find it difficult to communicate with their fellow students. They might be falling behind in the academic matters due to these limitations. It is necessary to provide necessary training for these students to overcome their weaknesses. It is felt that training in written and communication English would be of immense help to the students. The same is proposed to be conducted under TEQIP-II Equity Action Plan

4. SCOPE OF WORK: Honing soft skills should address the development of attitudes and attributes as well as 2

improvement in communication skills. It is proposed to engage the services of a professional trainer group to train the students in written and communication English as given above. This will, in turn, result in the ability to communicate thoughts and ideas effectively and interact with the right attitude. For this, the following aspects should be focused on:  Communication skills  Interpersonal skills  Problem solving skills  Effective Communication Skills – verbal, non-verbal, pronunciation and intonation, identifying and removing barriers to communication, acquisition of different styles of communication.  Business Presentation Skills – negotiation, structuring effective presentation, assertiveness.  Behavioral Traits - attitude, motivation , time and stress management, business ethics, leadership and inter personal skills and team building The deliverables for the agency will be as follows: 1.

Diagnostic Test: In order to identify the target group, a diagnostic test is to be conducted for around 200 students. The test tools will be provided by the service provider. Date: January 2017 – March 2017 Training on Professional Communication: A group of 60 to 70 could be identified from the diagnostic test as weak can the potential beneficiaries of the intensive training programme. This batch can be given the training on various skills for professional communication by the same agency. Date: January- March 2017.

5. ELIGIBILITY AND CAPABILITY OF PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANTS The Applicants should satisfy the f o l l o w i n g criteria for eligibility to submit RFP/EOI: (A). Kindly attach the following documents along with EOI a.

Organization Brochure

b.

Certificate of Registration / Incorporation

c. Certified copies of Turn over for last three financial year d. Permanent Account Number. e. Write up on technical capabilities. f. Expression of interest should be signed and stamped by authorized signatory. (B). The training provider should meet the following benchmarks: •

Minimum 3 years’ experience in providing training to faculty of engineering( in the same domain) education institutions (please provide the copies of the credentials/ selfcertificate for the last three years;) The organization’s annual turnover should not be less than Rs 40 lacs per annum during each of the last three years. The organization should have minimum 5 regular employees working on. The organization should have completed at least three projects of similar nature in past five years. The organization should have relevant experience in geographical region Provided similar training to at least 200 Students of engineering education institutions in the past three years (please provide appropriate proof; ) Have at least 10 experienced resource persons (full-time or otherwise) with at least a Master’s Degree for providing training in various elements of the Core and Advanced modules. Please provide brief experience profile of at least ten of the resource persons. 3



An undertaking (self-certificate) is to be submitted that there has been no outstanding bankruptcy, judgment or pending legal action that could impair operating as a going concern. 6. CRITERIA AND GUIDELINES FOR EVALUATION & SELECTION A. Selection of Professional consultant for Professional Communication Training to Students. Evaluation of the Applicants Capabilities of EOI will be done by an Evaluation Committee constituted by the DIRECTOR. Evaluation will be by a pointing system, where weightage is given for different parameters. The parameters are given below: Points to be Awarded Parameters (Aggregate 100) Firm’s Experience (30)

The applications will be scrutinized by an expert committee for follow-up action. Shortlisted agencies may be called for a presentation regarding their strengths and business proposals before placing orders. If deem necessary.

7. PAYMENT TO TRAINING PROVIDERS The professional consultancy services for Professional Communication Training to Students will take place at the institute level and payment will be booked under TEQIP-II Student Support. 100% payments after successful conduction of the respective programme a).Diagnosis b).Training on professional Communication 8. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS: All the expenditure incurred in preparation/ submission or presentation of this EOI shall be borne by the participating agency 2. Participation in this EOI does not guarantee any association with NIT Calicut unless notified by NIT Calicut in writing. 3. NIT Calicut reserves the right of rejecting any offer without assigning reasons. 1.
