Day 12
Tour Report
Monday 17th February
Ranthambhore The group met for tea and coffee at 630 and went to the park at 715am. We travelled in two jeeps because of the different routes. We had a good drive and saw animals like Sambar and Spotted deer, Bluebull and some birds. Came back from park around 1015am and met with the rest of the group at breakfast. We had a break and met again for lunch before going to the park again at 230pm. On this afternoon’s safari drive we went on route 8 and saw Leopard and Sloth Bear.
Day 13
Tuesday 18th February
Ranthambhore We got up for tea and coffee and today we went to route 6 and saw Indian Gazelle and Jackal and had good alarm calls but no cat yet. In the afternoon the group wanted to go to see the fort so I arrange a guide to take them to the fort which they enjoyed. Later we had lunch and in the afternoon we went to the park and one of the jeeps, in which Mr and Mrs Evans were sitting, saw a male Tiger in zone 3. I went to zone 4 with the other three and saw Striated Heron, Paradise Flycatcher, White capped Bunting, Great Thick-knee, Great Snipe and Asian Brown Flycatcher, Black tailed Godwit and Common Snipe but no Tiger for us yet.
Day 14
Wednesday 19th February
Ranthambhore We met for tea and coffee and went to the park (apart from Mary who had a bad back) on to route number 8 and saw a Leopard sitting right on the top of the cliff - he was very big! Red rumped and Wire tailed Swallow, Dusky Crag Martin and other common birds we seen before we came back for breakfast. Later we met for lunch and then we went to the park again. Today I made a special request to the park officials to get our both vehicles to the same zone and I asked for route 3 and we got that. We saw White capped Bunting, Greater Thick-knee, Bronze winged Jacana, Spoonbill, Spotted Redshank, Greenshank, Indian Cormorant (which was the first time for the group and for the checklist), Striated Heron and other birds. We were driving around and got a news that a Tiger was sitting by the border of route 4 and 3 so we rushed to the place and parked by the chained barrier and we could see that on the other side there were couple of people were taking pictures of the Tiger which we couldn't see as he was on the hilly area. Later on the Tiger stood up and started moving - this young male Tiger about 2 years old is named T-65. He came right in front of our jeeps and then he walked along and then ran behind the Sambar and Spotted Deer who were feeding by the lake. He managed to get one Sambar fawn down but nobody saw him making the kill as we had to move to the place where we were expecting him to come out. He was there and some could see his ears and flicking tail and then later on he got up and we could see the deer in his mouth. Then he walked along and went right in front of our jeep and we got some great pictures. So now we all had seen a Tiger and all were very happy! Back at the hotel later we met for the checklist and in the evening we enjoyed a barbecue and drinks outside the restaurant and there was a tribal dance as well. Everybody enjoyed dancing and we had great evening.
