VOLUME 5, NUMBER 2

Salutations! This morning, as I am thinking about all the events TVMTA has hosted over the recent months, I am grateful to belong to a group that has such a friendly and caring atmosphere as well as so many talented and experienced teachers. Our latest events; the Spring Festival Auditions, the 7th Annual Young Artist Piano Competition, the "Music-In-Art" Competition, and the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program Assessments all ran smoothly, once again displaying the talent of so many young students and and teachers. Sincere thanks goes to our Hospitality Chair, Eleonora Bineau, who has been involved in just about every event in our groups since it's inception and who so graciously offers her home for our evaluations and meeting. Also, I would like to thank our VP and Treas., Cecelia Unpingco, who has put in countless hours to keep our events running smoothly. It is not always easy to volunteer the many hours it takes to run TVMTA smoothly, and too often we take these "behind the scenes" workers for granted. Many thanks to you both! Enjoy your summer,

! TVMTA SPRING FESTIVAL AUDITIONS !

Our Festival Auditions were held at the studio of Eleonora Bineau. Our adjudicator, Karen Grob did a great job. She was encouraging to the students while also giving a good assessment of their performances.

!

Due to scheduling conflicts with other musical events on the same day, the turn-out was unfortunately smaller than usual with about 23 students participating from 3 studios. Because of the lower participation, it was decided to have teachers hand out the Gold Medals at their own student recitals, rather than at the Honor's Recital.

!

The Auditions ran smoothly and as always, we were fortunate to have the nice atmosphere of Eleonora's studio for our event. Next year, we are working at having no scheduling conflicts and hope to bring our student participation back up.

ROYAL CONSERVATORY Music Development Practical Assessments Spring Session 2014

! !

On May 24, 2014, TVMTA hosted the MDP Practical Assessments at the Temecula United Methodist Church. This is proving to be a great venue for this event! We have ample room for students and parents to relax while waiting for their turn to perform before the adjudicator. The whole atmosphere of this event is very nice. Students also enjoy the refreshments that are provided after their assessments!

!

This year, the Royal Conservatory sent over Katherine Dornian as our adjudicator. Ms. Dornian has her BMus in performance from the University of Calgary, MMus in Performance from University of Western Ontario, DipFA (Kodaly Specialization) from University of Calgary, and did her Post Graduate Studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. She has also taught at the Mount Royal University Conservatory and Central Conservatory in Beijing. Besides being so highly qualified, she was great with the students as well as friendly and easy to work with. RCM has an amazing group of adjudicators with a high and consistent standard!

!

This was TVMTA's second time hosting the MDP Practical Assessments. We had 14 students participate in levels Prep B through Level 9. This program has it's reputation for maintaining a high consistent standard nationwide. Currently, MDP Assessment program is growing rapidly, especially in California. We can anticipates continual growth in our Temecula Center as well.

!

TVMTA plans to host the Theory Assessments in December, 2014, and the next Practical (Performance) Assessments again next May, 2015. The MDP Assessments are also now available throughout California at different locations in Winter, Spring, and Summer.

!

Teachers wanting to learn about this program can contact Cecelia Unpingco or Elizabeth Medici (MDP Center Reps) for more information. If enough teachers are interested, a workshop can be arranged to review the program and curriculum. Daniel & Gina Namkung 2014 MDP Assessments
