4. INSTALLATION ON NON-PRESSURIZED TANK

CAUTION: When the CT801 is installed lower than the event pipe, an isolating valve must imperatively be provided on the bubbling probe in order to enable start-up and disassembly of device. This valve should be installed 30 cm away from CT801 transmitter. Sufficient air reserve should also be provided between the valve and the probe end; we recommend a buffer value of approximately 0.5 litres.

Furthermore, the piping going to the probe should not present any low point. In addition, it is recommended to install an isolating valve on the bubbling probe in any type of installation : UNTIL START UP AND BEFORE ANY OPERATION ON THE CT801 TRANSMITTER, THE ISOLATING VALVE ON THE BUBBLING PROBE MUST IMPERATIVELY BE CLOSED. Then, proceed as follow : ●

Close the isolating valve on bubbling probe if present;

Connect the bubbling probe to NPT ½ ‘’ coupling or to 1’’ gas coupling (depending of the connection mode);

Mount the CT801 over a counter-flange or over a support plate;

Check for proper sealing on the bubbling line;

Leave the plastic breather-cap on the « gas cover » connection if present (please refer to §2) When intended to be installed on deck, the CT801A « gas cover » connection is fitted with a venting nipple.

5. INSTALLATION ON PRESSURIZED TANK CAUTION: An isolating valve must imperatively be provided on the bubbling probe in order to enable start-up and disassembly of device. This valve should be installed 30 cm away from CT801 transmitter. Sufficient air reserve should also be provided between the valve and the probe end; we recommend a buffer value of approximately 0.5 litres.

Whenever gas cover pressure is higher than values shown below, the CT801 must imperatively be installed as shown on diagram §7.2.3. (R1 & R2 isolate the tank - R3 equalises HP & LP pressures - R4 de-pressurises the circuit in case of emergency). SCALE RANGE

MAXIMUM GAS COVER PRESSURE

0-50/70 mb 0-70/350 mb 0-350/1050 mb 0-1050/2100 mb 0-2100/4100 mb

1300 mb 1300 mb 2000 mb 4000 mb 5000 mb

Proceed as follow : ●

Close the isolating valve on bubbling probe;

● Connect the bubbling probe to NPT ½’’ coupling or to 1’’ gas coupling (depending of the connection mode); ●

Mount the CT801 over a counter-flange or over a support plate;

Check for proper sealing of bubbling line;

Connect the gas cover to NPT 1/8’’ coupling (refer to §2).

6. CONNECTIONS 6.1.

Connection of pneumatic supply ●

The CT801 transmitter must be supplied with instrument-quality air at a pressure of 4 to 10 bar. (Do not hesitate to contact us for an air dryer and oil extractor);

Provide a valve on the supply circuit;

Connect the air supply to NPT ¼’’ coupling marked with an arrow (see §2).

6.2.

Electrical connection

6.2.1 Supply voltage Supply voltage = 18 to 28 Vdc, to be determined according to the line impedance as shown on the following diagram:

Precautions for intrinsically safe installation EEx ia

The CT801A transmitter, version certified II 1 G D Ex ia IIC T6 Ga under certificate n° LCIE 02 ATEX 6182X, must be associated to an intrinsically safe certified device, complying with the transmitter's intrinsic safety parameters.

The internal capacitance Ci is ≤ 10 nF; the inductance Li is negligible. In particular the supply source characteristics must comply with : Ui (Vdc)

Ii (mA)

Pi (W)

≤ 28

≤ 140

≤1

The result of such association is an intrinsically safe system, which must be certified. The certification is the responsibility of the provider of the associated device. As consequence, a suitable Zener barrier must be installed in Safe Area, to be inserted in line between CT801A and power supply / measure acquisition device.

Then, proceed as follows: ●

The connections are to be performed with power off;

Open the explosion-proof case by unscrewing the cap, after removing the safety pin with a 6 mm hex socket wrench;

Dismount the explosion-proof stuffing-box;

Use bifilar shielded cable with external sheath (lead diameter under 2.5 mm²). Stuffing-box gland allows passage for a 8 to10 mm diameter cable as a standard ;

Bare the cable (sheath and shield) over approximately 20 cm; insulate the shield;

Insert the cable through the cable-clamp and stuffing (make sure that the cable and stuffing diameters match).

Loosen the 2 mounting screws of electronic circuit;

Insert the 2 wires in opening of printed circuit;

Connect to the terminal box as shown on following diagram :

POWER SUPPLY + LOAD

+

SIGNAL 4-20 mA

In + ELECTRONIC CONVERTER

In -

CONNECTION TO TERMINALS 4-20 mA

Remount the electronic circuit;

Tighten the stuffing-box and its cable-clamp;

Close the explosion-proof case by locking the threaded cap;

Remount the safety pin. CAUTION: Compliance with the above requirements is imperative in order to preserve the explosion-proof characteristics of the case.

7. START-UP ●

Since the CT801 is factory pre-set, no setting is required a priori. Should setting become necessary, proceed as shown in § 3.5 of Maintenance Manual.

The measuring range is shown in mbar on the identification plate. This value corresponds to the maximum hydrostatic pressure P, calculated as follows:

Maximum level to be gauged

B H

A

Bubbling probe

h

Tank bottom

Level A = Probe ending in open air ●

Hydrostatic pressure = 0

Current supplied by transmitter I = 4 mA

Level B = Maximum liquid level ●

Hydrostatic pressure = H ( cm ) x d x 0.981

Current supplied by transmitter I = 20 mA H = gauged height d = density of liquid h = non-gauged height

Note: Set the Zero on the indicator or on the programmable automaton to obtain the display of the height h or the corresponding volume. ●

Check that the pneumatic lines are air-tight and in compliance with our recommendations.

Check that the electrical connection is in compliance with diagram of §6.

8. CHECKING OPERATION 8.1.

Check in dynamic state

Compare the height of the liquid in tank and the value displayed on the indicator.

8.2.

Check in static state

Note: This check can be easily performed with Enraf Marine Systems’s test kit ●

Close the isolating valve of probe

Open the explosion-proof case by unscrewing the cap after removing the safety pin. CAUTION: In case of dangerous atmosphere opening of CT801 explosion-proof case is prohibited. A milli-ammeter must then be connected to the measuring circuit, away from the dangerous area.

Complete the pneumatic and electrical connections as shown on the following diagram: Test terminals

Pressure gauge

+ − − + Voltmeter

Isolating valves

Precision screw Precision pressure reducing valve

Start the air and power supply to CT801

Compare the generated pressure with the measuring signal 4-20 mA, according to the instructions of § 6.1.

After testing, reassemble and seal the dismounted connections.

NOTE:

HONEYWELL MARINE guarantees the relationship hydrostatic pressure / 4-20 mA measuring signal and indicator, as defined in the order. Any errors due to improper installation, improper utilisation, signal treatment, density deviations, gauging curves and leaks in lines cannot in any way be attributable to HONEYWELL MARINE
