Overviews Nepal is home to Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, and is a ShangriLa of lush jungle and lovely peaks and valleys. However, with all this beauty around did you know that there are over 600,000 orphans in Nepal and thousands more children who have been abandoned due to extreme poverty or have run away due to domestic violence and abuse? Tomorrow’s future rests in the hands of today’s children: with this scenario what will be the future of Nepal? As a small effort from our side, TEAM Nepal (Together Everyone Achieves More) has been running a Children’s Home at Talamarang village of Sindhupalchock district Nepal. This home is targeted for those who have lost their parents and or are under an extreme poverty. We have completed the successful five years of operation in the rented home and soon planning to move into a new own home. Apart from the children’s home with 18 orphan and poor children, we have been involved in health, education and other projects for school children. 10 community schools, 18 orphanage children and 25 other children are the current beneficiaries of our education, children’s home and scholarship projects respectively. This year has been a great and a successful year for our organization. So far, we have been able to acquire more than 6000 sq. meters of lands (For home and gardening use), construct two houses with separate outside kitchen and toilet rooms for home operation during the period. It is being very difficult for us at the moment to complete all the finishing works of house construction thus we are seeking some additional help from the friends, well wishers and regular and new donors for the details of below mentioned jobs.

Home Construction: Home construction itself involves a lot of resources and skilled, semi-skilled and non skilled labors. Children’s home construction was started from the month of January this year. Twelve regular and other occasional labors were involved in construction work and so far have completed 90% of the main construction work and around 80% of plastering work. In addition there are garden and other infrastructures prepared within the premises. The children’s home is situated around 70 KMs away from Kathmandu and takes 4 hours by public bus to reach. There is a secondary school, local market and a police station in the distance of 10 minute walk. The home ground is situated in the area from where surrounding mountains, a river and adjoining villages are visible. We will be able to complete the basic construction work of both houses but it is being impossible to complete all the finishing works of home with the budget we currently have. With the remaining budget and assured donations we will be able to complete Finishing works, plastering works, drinking water, outside kitchen, water taps and pipes installation. But we will still need a big help for windows and doors (33 each), railings in two buildings, toilet and shower construction, electrical wiring, coloring, remaining compounding works, biogas installation and farm house construction. We have categorized the most urgent needs and their details as follows:

The Most Urgent Needs Windows and Doors: Majority of the construction work is completed but there are still a lot of fields where money is needed. Once the plastering work is completed, windows and doors are the most urgent needs of the new home. We are currently is shortage of funds for purchasing windows and door slabs. Being far from the city, there has been a big transportation cost for the materials. Thus the actual projected budget went up during the construction. We will require 33 windows and same number of doors for two houses. There will be two separate kitchens and four outside shower/toilets. The windows will be of the size of 5x4 sq. foot and doors are made in the size of 3x6 sq. foot. There will be a small size wind passing windows in each room. This is something very much needed currently for the completion of a habitable home. Both the beams and slabs of windows and doors are made of the strongest wood (Saal- साल) locally available.

Electrical Wiring: We have already connected the main electricity lines to the home but buying the bulbs, switches, plugs and other materials and installing them properly into the room is another most important work to be completed before moving into the new home. This should be done during the time of finalizing the plastering work which is expected to take place during the second week of June. We will need a lot of materials as well as qualified manpower to complete the work.

Railing inside building: While looking after the children, Safety comes first thus we must be careful on any construction design that makes sure the children are safe to live and walk by. We have one ladder each on both the buildings and they must be safe for children living in our home to walk every day. Thus we must make some fences around the ladders, balcony and roof top. This will require materials as well as skilled manpower to complete.

Shower and Toilet Construction: There will be one toilet each on every floor which we are planning to use only for the night time. Additional common toilet and bathrooms are needed outside the home for children as well as occasional visitors/volunteers.

Estimated Budgeting We have prepared an approximate cost of the mentioned works for the home.
