Teacher Certification Program Course Catalog 2014-2015 The McLean Meditation Institute offers a professional Meditation Teacher Certification Program: a rigorous, 200-hour training designed to help qualified applicants develop the skills and confidence they’ll need to step into the world as an effective meditation teacher. Students will engage in a self-paced, distance learning foundational program and after it is successfully completed, will be eligible to attend the teacher mentoring program in an eightday program in Sedona, Arizona. The Training Materials designed to help a student understand the theory and practices of meditation, consist of:      

A 100+ page Study Guide which contains assignments, exercises, readings, research projects, and outlines A CD with guided meditations and instruction for the beginner 9 Books related to the theory and practice of meditation (including the topics listed) Access to a Private Webpage featuring links to online quizzes, the Teleconferences schedule, recorded calls, recorded classes, quizzes, videos and audios, additional study materials, and information and registration for the Intensive A Checklist to keep track of assignments Access to a private Facebook page to connect with an online community of other teachers in training. Links to this page are sent after enrollment. It’s where to find study partners (we call them “Study Buddies”). If a student isn’t on Facebook, we’ll make other arrangements to facilitate connections with others in the program.

Other Requirements:    



Continue your 30-40 minute daily meditation practice (requirement: 6 months of continued daily meditation experience). Keep a Daily Meditation Practice Log for a minimum of 30 consecutive days, which must be submitted 21 days prior to the Intensive. Study 10 Lessons as outlined in the Study Guide (each Lesson can take from 1-3 weeks to complete) and read the assigned books, excerpts, and texts, watch films and videos, perform online research, write reports, and share your findings in writing or in person. Keep a journal with your assignments, notes from your discussions, your experiences, and writing exercises. This can be hand-written or kept in digital format (if digital, a back-up and print out must be kept ), and must be submitted 21 days prior to the Intensive. Listen to the Teleconferences offered regularly over a 3-month period. The 10-call series is available anytime and all calls are recorded. The calls do not have to be listened to live.

Team up with a Study Buddy and conduct 30-minute study sessions by phone or inperson (a minimum of 4 are required before the Intensive – though more are possible.) Attend local mind-body health and meditation programs (can also be attended online). It isn’t required, but it’s suggested that a student attends a self-directed or a residential meditation retreat. This can include any online 21-day meditation program (eg. Deva Premal or Chopra Center), the Winter Feast for the Soul (a 40-day practice period that begins each year on January 15), an MMI Soul Radiance Retreat, a 10-day Vipassana retreat, a Sesshin (retreat in Zen Buddhism), or a comparable experience. Complete and pass the 9 open-book online quizzes and the online survey at least 21 days prior to the Intensive.

The Intensive: At the 8-day Intensive you’ll be immersed for 50 hours in an intimate retreat setting in the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. You’ll be mentored by Sarah McLean, a meditation expert who has taught thousands of people how to meditate. She’ll be joined by experts in yoga, ayurveda, adult education, meditation, brain science, and holistic health. You’ll be individually coached by one of the best speaking professionals in the business, and you’ll also receive advice from coaches in media relations, online marketing, and ethics. The program includes follow-up support and mentoring with Sarah McLean and experts at the McLean Meditation Institute. With the Student’s permission, his/her contact information will be listed in the Find-a-Teacher guide on the McLean Meditation Institute’s website.

Application Process / Admissions Requirements: Admissions are rolling for the McLean Meditation Institute’s Teacher Certification Program. To apply, you must submit:  The Student Application and Health Information Form  A 200–500 word essay on why you would like to become an MMI Certified Meditation Teacher  2 written personal recommendations  A $35 non-refundable application fee After an application is received, there is a 15 minute interview over the phone. Once interviewed, a student who meets application requirements will be invited to enroll in the program and will be sent an Enrollment Agreement. The student must review, sign, and send it back with tuition payment. The date the Enrollment Agreement is received by MMI is the student’s official Enrollment Date. Tuition and Fee Schedule (in U.S. Dollars)  At the signing of the Enrollment Agreement, the total cost for the Training is $2480 ($2,780 after 12/31/14) which includes the Application Fee, Tuition, and Materials Fee.  Tuition does not include transportation, accommodations, and most meals.  When Tuition is paid in full at the time of signing the Enrollment Agreement, Tuition (not the Materials Fee) is reduced by 5%.  If you elect to pay Tuition in two installments, the first installment due is 50% of Tuition and $150 for Materials at the time of Enrollment. The second installment is the balance of Tuition, which is due and payable at least 60 days prior to your attendance at the Intensive.  Once enrolled, the Student will receive the Training Materials by post within 7-14 days (allow 21 days for destinations outside the U.S.), and will gain access to the online Training website and community.  The Training shall be considered to have commenced on the Enrollment Date and shall be terminated upon successful completion of the Training. Guidelines for Student Cancellation, Refunds, Changes, Withdrawal or Dismissal:  An applicant denied admission to the Training is entitled to a refund of all monies paid.  Three Day Cancellation: An Applicant who provides written notice of cancellation within three days (excluding Saturday, Sunday, and federal and state holidays) of signing the © 2014 McLean Meditation Institute

Enrollment Agreement is entitled to a refund of all monies paid. No later than 30 days after receiving the notice of cancellation, MMI will provide the 100% refund. This is known as the Cancellation Period. The Training Materials Fee is refundable (less a 30% restocking fee) when the Training Materials are returned and received in excellent condition at MMI within 7 days of the Cancellation Period. Procedure for Withdrawal/Withdrawal date: A Student choosing to withdraw from the Training is to provide written notice to the Executive Director of MMI. A Student will be determined to be withdrawn from the Training if the Student has not made progress, has been inactive, or has not “attended” (including virtually) any of the components of the program for 30 consecutive days. A Student can be dismissed at the discretion of MMI for insufficient progress, nonattendance, non-payment of fees, or failure to comply with the Enrollment Agreement. If dismissed or withdrawn, the Student shall return all Training Materials and any other tangible property belonging to MMI to MMI or its representative within seven (7) days of dismissal or termination. There will be no resulting refunds. Cancellation/Transfer of Intensive Date: Once a Student is registered for the Intensive, he/she can transfer the date of his/her scheduled Intensive one time at no charge when he/she notifies MMI in writing at least 30 days prior to the start of the Intensive. Any additional changes will result in a date-change fee of $350. Late Cancellation/Transfer: If the Student cancels his/her registration in writing less than 30 days prior to the start of the Intensive, it will result in a date-change fee of $350. Intensive Non-Attendance: If a Student does not attend the Intensive within 18 months of the Enrollment Date, he/she will be removed from the active roster and put into a hold status. Tuition will be forfeited in full. There will be no refunds. To re-enroll, the Student must reapply for the Training. Failure to Successfully Complete the Intensive: a Student who attends the Intensive but does not successfully complete all required testing, comply with standards, or is unable to attend the entire Training, will not complete the Training. In order to continue with the Training, he/she must register to attend a future Intensive within 2 years, and pay an additional fee of $800. MMI reserves the right to change programs, start dates, and/or to cancel programs when the number of Students scheduled is too few. Students will be informed in writing of any changes made. Prepaid Fees and Tuition will be refunded in their entirety within 30 days, or transferred to a future program if the Institute cancels a particular Training session.

After the Training has been Successfully Completed:  The Graduate shall receive a Certificate of Completion and authorization to teach the Simple, Easy, Every Day Meditation™ method.  The Graduate shall have permission to identify him/herself as "McLean Meditation Institute Certified™" or “MMI Certified™” or “MMI Certified Meditation Teacher,” in all advertising and promotional media.

The Graduate will provide instruction in the SEED Meditation® method to those contacting them and seeking to learn that method. This does not preclude the Student from offering other meditation training or program types. The Graduate is required to use the Training Materials as developed by MMI when he/she teaches SEED Meditation. At this time the Training Materials available include the Simple, Easy, Every Day Meditation™ method booklet ($5 each), and an optional CD ($2.50 each) available for purchase in bulk at these wholesale rates from MMI. The Graduate acknowledges that he/she is not authorized to revise content and pertinent teaching and presentation materials without MMI’s express written consent. As part of MMI’s ongoing commitment toward making meditation accessible to all, the Graduate is encouraged to provide two or more public meditation classes a year to those in need at no charge, and/or is encouraged to donate a portion of his/her income to a non-profit effort for peace. MMI will resupply the Graduate with Training Materials (up to 10 sets each year) at no charge upon notification to MMI that the class is occurring. The Graduate is encouraged to have his/her meditation students sign a Release and Waiver of Liability form, a sample of which is provided by MMI, when teaching classes in SEED Meditation®, and to maintain the student files for a year. To maintain Active Teaching Status, the Graduate is required to attend a continuing education module every two (2) years in order to update and/or modify prior instructions or incorporate additional techniques. There is no additional financial commitment for continuing education. The requirement can be satisfied either by participating in a Teleconference, or attending a Teacher Intensive, where the Graduate may volunteer to assist at no charge. The Graduate shall annually submit five (5) Evaluation Forms completed by his/her own students. They can be sent via email to: [email protected], or by mail to MMI, P.O. Box 1178, Sedona, AZ 86339. This requirement may be waived if the Graduate informs the Institute in writing that he/she is not actively teaching. Job placement for TCP Graduates is neither implied nor guaranteed.
