Most of the facilities created have high level of online instrumentation, metering and Automation. It is pertinent to mention that such ZLD facilities created are one of the first of its kind in the world.
TWIC has also introduced technologies such as Brine reuse technology for Textile dyeing and ZLD technology for Paper & Pulp mills. These developments have already started to have a positive impact on the environment.
TWIC focus on not just recovery of Water & salt, but also recovery of byproducts from Wastewater, such as Chemicals / Energy etc.

While developing projects, TWIC works on the premise that project interventions should have lasting benefits and also would need to be operated and maintained on a sustainable basis.
TWIC has put in place effective O&M teams for asset management and sustainable operations.

Government Recognition Government of Tamilnadu:

Environment and Forest (EC.1), GoTN has nominated TWIC for carrying out the diagnostic study, preparation of Detailed Project Report, facilitating financial closure and advisory on Project Management Consultancy (PMC) / O&M for Micro, Small, Medium Bleaching and Dyeing units in the districts of Namakkal, Erode, Salem & Karur vide G.O.NO. 48 dated: 31.03.2015.
Government of India: 1. TWIC’s technology for ZLD has been recognized by the Ministry of Textiles and has been evaluated and accepted by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
2. TWIC has been the knowledge partner and Empanelled Project Management Consultant to the Ministry of Textiles, GoI, under the 12th Plan, for the Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS).

PROJECT SHOWCASE
I.
Tirupur Textile Effluent Management Project, Tirupur Client: Tirupur Textile Dyeing Industries Implementation Phase TWIC assisted nine Common Effluent Treatment Plants in development of zero discharge solution for the bleaching and dying units in Tirupur. The total effluent treatment capacity of these nine CETPs is 53,000 cum per day, forming the majority of the effluents generated in Tirupur. The cost of this project was Rs. 4200 millions.
The scope of work undertaken by TWIC was preparation of detailed project reports, selection of technology and project specification, design engineering, procurement of contractor, arranging finance for the project and implementation supervision. The components of the ZLD CETP are Pipeline for effluent conveyance, Pre-treatment works, Reverse Osmosis plant, Evaporator plant, and Recovered water distribution system. TWIC has also developed an alternate technology called “Treated Brine Reuse Technology” which substantially reduces the dependence on evaporator. This has been successfully demonstrated at Arulpuram CETP and is now being implement in the remaining TWIC developed CETPs. Application for grant of patent rights for this technology has been filed with the patent office and the same is under process.
O&M phase O&M services for Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) based Seven Common Effluent treatment plants with capacities ranging from 3 MLD to 11 MLD in Tirupur textile cluster. The effluent from various industries collected, metered, and conveyed to the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for treatment and recovered water distributed back to the industries for processing. These CETPs are equipped with Pre-treatment system (Biological Oxidation system based on

Global Water Intelligence Award 2014: TWIC‘s Tirupur CETP ZLD project recognised by the prestigious Global Water Awards 2014 by Global Water intelligence (GWI) as “Highly Commended” under the Industrial Water Project of the year category and has also called it as a “phoenix rising from the ashes of an environmental catastrophe”. 2014 WateReuse Industrial Project of the Year: Tirupur ZLD Project was chosen as Water Reuse Industrial Project for the Year 2014 by the Water Reuse Association, USA. II.
Implementation of Zero Liquid Effluent Treatment Project for tannery cluster Client: Ambur Economic Development Organization Limited
Project Management services for Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) based 3 Common Effluent treatment plants with capacities ranging from 1 MLD to 4 MLD (combined capacities of 7.2 MLD) in Ambur and Vaniyambadi Tannery cluster. These CETPs have Membrane Bio-Reactor as pre-treatment for RO systems and Evaporator for RO reject management.
The Project would enable the tannery sector at Ambur and Vaniyambadi in meeting environmental norms specified by the Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board. The project has been completed and commissioned.

III.
Consultancy services for Implementation of the integrated wastewater management (ZLD) for tannery CETP Client: Pallavaram Tanners Industrial Effluent Treatment Company Ltd
Owners Consultation Engineer for implementation of the integrated wastewater management project consists of development of appropriate solutions to meet the Zero Liquid Discharge requirements for the Common Tannery Effluent Treatment plant of capacity 3 MLD. TWIC has evaluated design and construction engineering documents and monitoring the project implementation works. This is to ensure the adequacy of treatment plant to treat maximum 3 MLD Tannery effluents. TWIC was also engaged by the CETP for providing “monitoring & feedback services” during the O&M of the plant by the EPC contractor.

IV.
Technical and Commercial Feasibility for Development, Financing, Implementation and Operation of Zero Liquid Discharge Effluent Project for paper and Pulp effluent Client: Tamilnadu Newsprint and Papers Limited, Karur
TWIC had entered in to an agreement for Preparation of Technical and Commercial Feasibility report as a precursor for Development, Financing, Implementation and Operation of Zero Liquid Discharge Effluent Project for paper and Pulp effluent including Design, Implementation and Operation and Maintenance of a Pilot plant.
120 m3/d pilot plant was commissioned and trials were carried out for over an 8 months period and the same has now been completed successfully. The pilot plant was used to process Hardwood from bleaching effluent from the pulp mill. TWIC has now prepared a Detailed Project Report for implementation of a full scale Zero Liquid Discharge Project .The project developed is under joint patenting between TNPL & TWIC.

Tirupur Water Supply and Sewerage Project Client: Tirupur Municipal Corporation & Government of Tamilnadu
New Tirupur Area Development Corporation Limited (NTADCL) has been established as a special purpose vehicle for development and implementation of the Tirupur Water Supply and Sewerage Project. NTADCL was promoted by TWIC along with the Tirupur Exporters Association, to implement the first water sector related project under the public-private partnership framework in the country. It is the first water supply project in India to be financed commercially on a limited recourse basis.
Project scope Facilities have been constructed to extract, treat and supply 185 MLD (expandable to 250 MLD) from the river Cauvery. Water is being supplied to the dyeing and bleaching industries and domestic consumers in Tirupur and Domestic consumers of Tirupur Municipality, fifteen villages panchayat with a total population of 8,00,000 are being supplied with water. A Sewage Treatment Plant along with the sewerage network based on Activated Sludge Process (ASP) of capacity 15 MLD (expandable to 30 MLD) has been implemented for Tirupur Town.
The project cost of Rs 1023 Crores was financed through a mixture of commercial loans (60%), equity (30%) and sub debt (10%).
TWIC is the promoter of the New Tirupur Area Development Corporation Limited project with associated promoter responsibility, covering a) BOT responsibilities under the concession agreement b) Arranging of finance c) Supervision of contractor performance
The Project is under operation since 2005 and supplying water to Tirupur municipalities, Industries located in the region and specified enroute villages.

Consultancy Services to Conduct Prefeasibility and Planning Studies for 100 MLD Desalination Plant in Ramanadhapuram & Thoothukudi Districts Client: Tamilnadu Water Supply and Drainage Board
Proposed Project: The project involves catering drinking water to the water stressed public and Industries in coastal area of Ramanathapuram District and Thoothukudi District separately by setting up of either 1 No of 100 MLD or more than 1 plant of various capacities totaling 100 MLD Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plants (SWRO).
Project Scope: The scope of the work is to assess the number and sizing of desalination plants at select candidate sites in Ramanathapuram District and Thoothukudi District separately for setting up of either 1 No of 100 MLD or more than 1 plant of various capacities totaling 100 MLD Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plants (SWRO) by conducting the following Planning Study and Preparation of Pre-feasibility report including,
1. Gathering data on existing population, water supply details, infrastructures and then estimation of future growth and water demand and distribution of water to the demand centers. 2. Capital and Operating costs together with a preliminary environmental assessment, financial viability with basic designs and details of the identified risks associated.
Further, each site is to be evaluated for, Access to good quality sea water Brine disposal and dispersion Physical suitability for construction of desalination plant, e.g. soils and flooding Acceptability from an environmental point of view and Access to electrical power. Aug’15

The report has been submitted and TN Government has approved 2 Nos 60 MLD Desalination Plants at Alanthalai Thoothukudi and Kuthrimozhi Ramanadapuram at a project cost of Rs 1350 Cr for Implementation. TWIC is also nominated as the Bid management consultants and Owner Engineer for 3 years .

Workshop conducted by TWIC on behalf of government of Tamilnadu on UGSS:
TWIC has successfully conducted a two day National Workshop on underground Sewerage System for Government of Tamilnadu (Commissionerate of Municipal Administration Department) on 22.07.2013 and 23.07.2013
The Work shop included presentations from various states and countries with a round table discussion on reviewing the existing arrangements, problems, issues and to find out sustainable solutions with the available modern technologies and arrive at various implementation strategies on Piping, Manholes, Pumps, STPs, Water reuse and Power Generation. The Workshop was presided by the Hon’ble Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, Law, Courts & Prisons and the dignitaries & over 100 Engineering staff from various State government departments participated.
Majority of the participants have appreciated the arrangements and the way the topics were structured covering all the areas relevant to overall objective of the workshop and expressed that the sessions were very educative, interesting and useful for the existing ongoing schemes and for implementation of proposed future schemes.
