Mike Dubin is the Assistant Dean for Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Michigan Law School. Mike joined the University of Michigan in 2002 as the associate director of the major gifts program at the U-M College of Engineering. In 2007, he joined the School of Education as the director of Development and Alumni Relations, and in 2015 moved to the Law School. A native of Ann Arbor, Mike graduated from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management with a degree in general management and a focus on finance and marketing. Mike served as the president of the Greenhills School Alumni Association, and later as trustee and treasurer of the Greenhills School Board of Trustees. He has also served as trustee, treasurer, vice president and president of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival since 2007. Mike serves on the mentor board for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, where he assists grassroots fundraisers who seek to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s Disease research. ✤

Moorea

Catholic church built entirely of coral, the first church constructed in the archipelago by European missionaries (1874). Near the village of Rotoava stands the Topaka Lighthouse, a picturesque 45-foot-tall coral stone turret.

Intriguing temples evoke Moorea’s Polynesian heritage while European churches underscore its role as the center for 19th-century missionary activity in the Society Islands. Contemporary islanders continue the ways of their forefathers, farming pineapples and papayas and crafting fine works of art from seashells and indigenous wood. In Moorea’s village of Papetoai, a unique, octagonal-shaped church is the oldest European structure in the South Seas still in use.

TUAMOTU ARCHIPELAGO Rangiroa The Tuamotus, Tahiti’s “strand of pearls” and the largest chain of islands in the world, are a remote, picture-perfect oasis of the South Seas. Comprised of more than 110 miles of tiny islet motus encircling dozens of pristine coral atolls, Rangiroa—“vast sky” in the local language—offers magnificent, unobstructed vistas in every direction. Its seemingly endless emerald green lagoon is the largest in the Tuamotus and the second largest in the world, a secluded natural aquarium that is particularly attractive to divers. The atoll also offers ideal snorkeling—observe the manta ray, the green sea turtle and the rare, endangered humphead wrasse—and a unique pink sand beach.

Fakarava The second largest of the Tuamotu atolls, Fakarava is designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for its lagoon’s rich ecosystem of rare endemic birds, plants and crustaceans. In Fakarava’s two villages, the local pearl and coconut farmers actively participate in conservation efforts, as their livelihood depends on sustaining these natural resources. Tahiti, “Queen of the Pacific,” and her sister islands— Huahine, Taha’a, Bora Bora and Moorea—have beckoned visitors ever since Captain James Cook landed here in 1769. This tropical paradise has captivated explorers and mariners, artists and writers alike—Captain Cook returned twice more, H.M.S. Bounty’s Bounty’s Fletcher Christian chose to remain for a time and Master aster Impressionist Paul Gauguin abandoned his career in France to embrace the seductive lifestyle of Polynesia. Contemporary Tahitian society was born of a unique blend of peoples originating in Southeast Asia. Among the finest sailors in the world, they used the sun, stars, ocean tides and flight patterns of birds to make their way across the sea around 2000 B.C. First settled by mariners from Samoa, the Society Islands became inhabited shortly thereafter and more than 200 years after Ferdinand Magellan sailed past, English navigator Captain Samuel Wallis became the first European to set foot on Tahiti in 1767. The next year, French explorer Louis de Bougainville arrived on the island. In addition to English, French and Polynesian heritage, the Chinese also came to Tahiti during the the late 19th century, furthering the diverse cultural blend of the island’s inhabitants. In the South Pacific, aqua- and agricultural preservation continue to encompass the everyday life and cultural traditions of these remote, unspoiled islands. Cultivation of Tahitian black pearls and their shells, vanilla bean farms and the coffee trade, copra (dried coconut) and shellfish are the island’s traditional industries and of great cultural significance here. As a result, Gohagan is not liable for any negligent or willful act or failure to act of any such person or entity or of any other third party. In addition and without limitation, Gohagan is not responsible for any injury, loss, death, inconvenience, delay, or damage to person or property in connection with the provision of any goods or services whether resulting from, but not limited to, acts of God or force majeure, acts of government, acts of war or civil unrest, insurrection or revolt, bites from or attacks by animals, insects or pests, strikes or other labor activities, criminal or terrorist activities of any kind or the threat thereof, sickness, illness, epidemics or the threat thereof, the lack of availability of or access to medical attention or the quality thereof, overbooking or downgrading of accommodations, mechanical or other failure of airplanes, vessels, or other means of transportation, or for any failure of any transportation mechanism to arrive or depart timely or safely. If due to weather, flight schedules or other uncontrollable factors, you are required to spend an additional night(s), you will be responsible for your own hotel, transfers and meal costs. Baggage is entirely at owner’s risk. The right is reserved to decline to accept as a trip participant, or remove from a trip, without refund, any person Gohagan judges to be incapable of meeting the rigors and requirements of participating in the activities, or who is abusive to other trip participants, leaders or third parties, or who Gohagan determines to detract from the enjoyment of the trip by others. Specific room/cabin assignments are within the sole discretion of the hotel or cruise line. Gohagan reserves the right to change the itinerary or trip features at any time and for any reason, with or without notice, and Gohagan shall not be liable for any loss of any kind as a result of any such changes.
