Delivery and safety tips Honoured customer, thank you very much for your confidence in Giesemann quality products. Our experiences in the area of the Aquatics as well as modern illumination technology guarantees the quality standard of our products. Please read this manual in its entirety in order to guarantee optimal function and operational reliability of your product over many years. Failure to observe the following points may prove dangerous or can violate existing guidelines. All Giesemann lamps are equipped with the CE sign. You find this sign on the type sign in the lamp or on any external power supply box. After unpacking, please check to ensure the condition of your lamp and that all components are present. Damage must be reported immediately to your specialist supplier in order to make a valid claim. The lamps may be installed only by authorized specialist staff. These lamps may not be operated if any damage is visible, If false function appears, after submersion into water, or any other deficiency that may effect safe operation. The lamps never may be operated without the corresponding protection glasses; broken splash-shields are to be replaced immediately in order to guarantee sufficient water protection. The described lamps are designed exclusively for the illumination and addition of illumination of indoor aquariums only. The illumination is to be installed securely with a minimum distance to the water surface above the aquarium and should never be operated under water. They should never be placed unsecured on the aquarium edge or have ventilation inhibited by way of surrounding equipment, panel work or covers. The lamps and the electrical components should be protected unconditionally against direct water ingression. Use the lamps with extreme caution if children or other people are present who do not understand the dangers of close proximity. Packaging materials may not be used for playing and should be disposed of securely: DANGER: risk of asphyxiation. Never look directly into the light source. Bright light can lead to eye injuries! Maintenance work on the lamps should only be carried out after removing applicable covers and ensuring the light is disconnected from the power supply at the wall. For safety reasons it is recommended that any work carried out in the aquarium, should only take place when the illumination is removed from the aquarium. The housing and protective glasses may become very hot during use: Avoid touching them!! When cleaning, it is particularly important to ensure that no moisture gets into the air vents inside or on top of the lights. Never cover the ventilation grilles with any item, and make sure that there can be sufficient heat exchange. Improper use will invalidate any warranty claim. The transport and storage of the lamp must only be done using the original packaging. The lights are made of aluminium which is protected from seawater corrosion by a high quality powder coating. To keep the body clean and the light areas clear, clean regularly with a slightly damp cloth. Please note that salt deposits always should be removed immediately, otherwise even quality surfaces may become damaged over time. Failure to maintain effectively may lead to the loss of warranty. Disposal: Once this appliance has expired, make the retired lights unusable by removing the plug from the socket and cut the cable. Dispose of the lamp in accordance with applicable environmental regulations in your country. Electrical waste may not be disposed of with household waste. Contact us for advice on recycling with your local authorities or dealer.

Installation To assemble your SPECTRA / INFINITI there are different mounting options (wall mounting bracket not included) which are available from your Giesemann dealer. Installation of the SPECTRA / INFINITI by wire suspension kit (recommended): Attach the two hangers (cable holder) on the top of your fixture. Check the tightness of the cable holder. Install the ceiling mounting with suitable screws and wall plugs, making sure that the brickwork/ceiling on site can offer sufficient support. If necessary, special fastening systems, such as Hollow wall anchors, screws, etc may be necessary. If uncertain, please consult with a specialist company. Now run the steel cord through the bore of screw. Screw into the ceiling mount Insert the loose end of the steel cable into the top opening of the cable holder hole and push through until the end exits through the side hole. Since your light is equipped with continuously variable height adjustment, it can be raised or lowered easily by applying pressure to the nozzle of the spring lock mechanism. For safety reasons, always support the lamp when it is being adjusted. When the light unit is gently lowered again with the nozzle released the cable will automatically lock in place. Always aim to set your light unit level with the aquarium. Installation of the SPECTRA / INFINITI with aquarium mounts is due to the high weight of the fixture not recommended.

Inserting the T-5 bulbs Before inserting or replacing the bulbs make sure, that the fixture is unplugged from the mains. Remove one endplate of the fixture by loosen the screws on the endplate. Remove the acrylic shield and the two mirrored covers. Remove the protection film of the reflectors!! The tubes and the contacts are to be pushed into the socket evenly, if necessary, exert a slight pressure in order to press the movable socket against the springs. After having inserted the tubes turn them by 90° until they fit properly. Slide the acrylic shield back into the rail of the fixture. Insert the mirrored covers on each end of the fixture by bending the acrylic shield slightly. Mount the endplate on the fixture and tighten the screws. Assembly work on the light may be performed only with the light dismounted from the ceiling / wall

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIGHT FIXTURES WITH DIMMABLE T-5 BULBS Please note, that it is very important to ‘burn in’ any new tubes used with this pendant. This is to ensure they are fully functioning prior to activating the dimming function. After fitting any new tubes both channels must be set in manual mode for the tubes to operate at 100% brightness for a minimum of 50 hours (for example 10 hours per day for the first 5 days). Failure to do this may cause problems in dimming up or down to a low % and may affect programmed channels. GIESEMANN pendants are designed to be used with high quality VHO lamps for example original GIESEMANN POWERCHROME T5 Tubes. Other manufacturer’s tubes can be used but we recommend for maximum performance original GIESEMANN POWERCHROME T5 tubes are used.

Inserting the double ended MH bulbs (HQI) - INFINITI Before inserting the bulbs make sure, that the fixture is unplugged from the mains. Please install the bulb according to the instructions which are attached to the respective bulb. Take care not to touch the glass with bare hands. Any marks or finger prints need to be removed immediately with a clean cloth and alcohol or spirit, otherwise they will be burnt into the quartz glass and destroy the bulb. 70 and 150 Watt bulbs are to be inserted into the socket so that the contact springs guarantee a secure fit and a good contact

SPECTRA / INFINITI

250 Watt double ended versions are to be put into the movable ceramic socket; under even pressure they will arrest within the socket. Take care that the lamp does not edge anywhere and that the glass bulb does not get damaged. Bulbs with screw sockets should be screwed into the socket evenly (clock-wise) without exerting too much pressure

To remove a 250W lamp, wrap both your index fingers around each end of the lamp. Place your thumbs on the lampholders. Pull both ends simultaneously

Inserting the single ended MH bulbs (HQI) - SPECTRA Before inserting the bulbs make sure, that the fixture is unplugged from the mains. Please install the bulb according to the instructions which are attached to the respective bulb. Make sure, that the wattage of the external ballast match with the wattage of the Metal Halide bulb. Use only Metal Halide Bulbs for your fixture

Screw the lamp into the lampholder in a clockwise direction firmly, but without over-tightening. The filter glasses are in combination with the ventilation slots responsible for bearing the complete light body. Therefore the slots are fitting very tight in the rail, to allow the glasses to extend by operation temperatures up to 600°C.

NEVER INSTALL OR REPLACE BULBS ON YOUR FIXTURE DURING OPERATION OR IF THE FIXTURE IS HOT. MAKE SURE THE FIXTURE IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE MAINS.

External ballast for Metal- Halide bulbs Each Halide bulb requires an external ballast (not included). Please ask your dealer to choose the right model. We highly recommend to use CoralVue MH ballasts for best results. The wattage of the ballast must match with the wattage of your light fixture!!! The use of alternate types may result in irreparable damage to the light unit and will invalidate the warranty. Your fixture comes with an adaptor (white plug) that can be mounted on the cord of your ballast. Please follow the instructions for these Metal Halide ballasts. The connection / plug of your fixture should not be modified in any way. Attempts to modify this connection with controllers or similar intervention will lead to immediate loss of warranty.

INFINITI – Dymax reflector system Your new INFINITI light is equipped with the adjustable reflector system DYMAX. With just one movement you can slide the reflectors along the body to achieve the correct balance of light for a particular situation or simply to avoid strengthening bars across the surface of the tank. To adjust your reflector, use the Allen key supplied, slacken the screw on the top only slightly. You can move each reflector now up to 100 mm (4 inch), with the Allen key. If you found the right position of the reflector, fix the screw vice versa.

Mounting your fixture When selecting the location for installing your light, please ensure that there is adequate air circulation!! In order to protect the internal components and the materials, sufficient air circulation and, thus sufficient cooling must be provided. If the fixture gets too hot, the noise during operation might get louder, this may be due to insufficient air circulation around the ceiling or wall, where heat may be accumulating. Check the distance of the lamp unit from these points and adjust. The fixtures should only be used for the illumination of aquaria. Do not balance the fixture on the edge of the aquarium. Do not install the light in a poorly ventilated environment where it may overheat such as behind coverings, hoods and panelling. Do not operate the light systems in wet locations. The minimum distance between fixture and water surface needs to be 30 cm (12”). ependent upon the internally measured temperature, the fan/s are engaged automatically and will vary speed accordingly. In the event of overheating, inbuilt protection will automatically switch off the lamp. The fans will continue to run until the correct temperature has been attained at which point, the lamp will automatically re-engage. Repeated overheating may damage the lamp and should be notified to your specialist dealer immediately.

WARNING: Before using your light over an aquarium that may already contain sensitive fish/plants/corals or other animals that have become accustomed to an alternate light source. Please remember that your fixture is capable of delivering very high levels of light intensity within the frequency ranges that are of greatest importance to the animals. It is often impossible to judge spectral intensity by visual reference alone when comparing different lighting methods, so it is advised that a setting of no more than 50% intensity be used on any channel for the first time, or until you have had time to see how the animals are adapting to the chosen spectrum and intensities that you have set. Additionally lighting durations may be reduced temporarily to reduce the chances of stress or shock.

Cleaning and maintenance Generally, the aquarium lights of Giesemann do not require any maintenance. Nevertheless, the following maintenance instructions should be followed at regular intervals. The light body should be cleaned at regular intervals to maintain a long lasting surface quality. The UV filtration glasses are only to be cleaned very carefully with a moistened cloth after the glasses have cooled down completely. Cleaning at regular intervals will avoid the burning in of salt and thus, will prevent the glasses from discolouring. Please make sure, that the HQI bulbs and the tubes are replaced at regular intervals. Old bulbs do not switch off completely, but flicker or fail temporarily. This has a negative impact on the integrated ignitors, which can finally lead to a total component failure. The high quality powder coating of the Powder coated fixtures is extremely resistant. However, natural dirt during every-day operation as well as splashed water and dust are unavoidable. Clean the fixture with a moistened cloth and make sure that no water gets inside the fixture’s body through the ventilation slots. The UV filtration glasses should be cleaned very carefully with a moistened cloth after the glasses have cooled down completely. Cleaning in regular intervals will avoid the burning in of salt and thus it will prevent the glasses from fainting. Please note that your light needs to be cleaned at regular intervals, in order to protect the surface from possible discolouring. NEVER use any detergents

Troubleshooting Before a Giesemann fixture is delivered to a customer it will be checked once more in detail. Besides checking on the functionality, a number of electrical tests will be carried out and recorded in order to guarantee the customer a functionally working product. Nevertheless, should, an operation error occur, it might be for one of the following reasons: §

The metal halide does not start: please check first the cable connections between the external ballast box and the light. Ensure a proper connection to the power supply. Otherwise there might be a problem with the contacts. Please make sure that the bulb’s contacts were slid evenly into the socket. If necessary, the bulbs need to be exchanged. If you do not hear any operational noise when starting an HQIfixture, either a mistake was made when programming the timer or the connection to the power supply was not carried out properly.

§

The bulb turns off: If the light becomes to hot (e.g. because of covered ventilation slots or in case of built in the light in a cupboard), or after having reached the end of the bulb´s lifetime, it will turn off. Please don´t install the fixture inside a canopy or close the ventilation slots. If necessary, the bulb needs to be exchanged.

§

The bulb flickers: After having reached the end of the bulb´s lifetime or because of bad contacts in the connectors the light may flicker. Replace the bulb or resp. let the connectors in the light change by an authorised electrician.

§

The light is smelling after starting: The reflectors of the light are ensured for the transportation by foiles. These foiles must be removed before first operating, otherwise the reflectors may irreversible damaged by burning in of the foils.

NEVER try to repair your fixture yourself – please contact your authorized dealer or Giesemann´s distributor in the US and Canada (www.coralvue.com) . You can find a list of all other authorized Giesemann dealers in other countries at www.giesemann.de
