Introduction We at M.M.C. International are producers of presumptive colorimetric ampoule tests for the police and customs officers. These tests give a presumptive identification of a suspected substance. We always strive to supply the best tests to our customers and to always invest in quality control and improvement. Our tests in no way substitute the need for further confirmation by for example GCMS analysis. Always have your sample confirmed by a laboratory. In order to give you, the customer, the best identification possible we do tests at our laboratory to ensure the quality of our products and to expose possible cross reactions with our tests. In this report we tested our Synthetic cannabinoids reagent on some common cannabinoids, and some new, upcoming cannabinoids.

These cannabinoids are thus all street samples and some of them contained impurities. Equipment Used In our analysis we used a Kern ABT 120-5DM analytical balance to weigh the chemicals. The cannabinoids were analysed on an Agilent 7820a GC coupled with an Agilent 5975 MSD detector. Besides the chemicals and electronic equipment we used regular laboratory supplies and our own M.M.C. Synthetic Cannabinoids test.

Procedure The composition of all cannabinoids has been characterized by GC-MS. This technique is not capable of detecting all components, but generally detects all organic compounds, including cannabinoids, solvents and most compounds present in plant matter. All cannabinoids tested were in powder form and weren’t impregnated on plant matter. All powders were brought into the test ampoules using a M.M.C spatula. Only a small amount of powder was used, as indicated in the instructions. The test was lightly stirred and not shaken. The colour of the reagent was noted after 30-60 seconds after introduction of the sample, unless noted otherwise. The colour was systematically noted using the Pantone Matching system (PMS).

Conclusion As visible in the results, most cannabinoids give differing colours. Some cannabinoids (JWH-018 and JWH-019) give identical colours, but overall, the colours differ significantly. Cannabinoids from the new generation of street cannabinoids have also been tested, and most gave a unique colour. This means the M.M.C. Synthetic cannabinoids test is a good presumptive test for the identification of both old and new generation synthetic cannabinoids. Photos were taken of the tests and these photos have been attached to this report. The colours of the reagent tend to look darker on the camera as they are in reality and are not meant to find the exact colour.
