Swedavia Swedavia owns, operates and develops a network of ten Swedish airports. Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Göteborg Landvetter Airport have the most passengers. The company, which is wholly owned by the Swedish State, was formed in 2010 when airport operations that previously belonged to Luftfartsverket (LFV) were converted into a limited liability company. Swedavia works in an international market that is subject to competition. The company’s role is to create the access Sweden needs to facilitate travel, business and meetings – in Sweden, elsewhere in Europe and around the world. Our customers are passengers, airlines and tenants that lease retail, office or hotel space in Swedavia’s properties. Sweden competes with other airports in its work to attract investments by airlines. Safety, security, a focus on customers and sustainable development are the basis of everything Swedavia does, both in its own operations and in society in general. Operations are run along solid business principles, and the company shall build a business that is sustainable over the long term through development, planning and operational efficiency. Satisfied employees and a good workplace are crucial to Swedavia’s operations. At the same time, the company shall continually reduce its carbon footprint and help reduce the environmental impact of the entire air travel industry. All of Swedavia’s airports are environmentally certified at the highest level of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program. Swedavia’s task is to own, operate and develop airports Together, the airports build a network that links Sweden’s regions together, while also serving as a bridge to and from the world beyond. Swedavia’s vision is “Together we bring the world closer”. That means Swedavia shall help to make air travel and cargo transport – regionally, but also to and from Sweden – as accessible, efficient and attractive as possible Performance in 2014 During the year, Swedavia´s airports had35,7 million passengers. Net revenue increased to SEK 5 538 M. About 2 400 employees. Swedavia replace about 700 000 square meters of asphalt every year. www.swedavia.se •

NCC Roads NCC Roads dates from 1875 and is part of NCC, one of the largest construction and property development companies in the Nordic region: • annual sales 6.8 billion U.S. dollars • 18 000 employees. With the Nordic region as its home market, NCC is active throughout the entire value chain – developing and building residential and commercial properties, and constructing industrial facilities and public buildings, roads, civil engineering structures and other types of infrastructure. More specifically, NCC Roads´ core business is the production of aggregates and asphalt as well as asphalt paving and road services. • 100 asphalt plants: 6.2 million tons/ year • 200 aggregate plants: 28 million tons/ year

The core of NCC Roads´ R&D and intelligence work pivots around design-build contracts based on performance specifications. Although, part of the effort involves basic material behavior and characterization, the scope extends beyond this to include asphalt mix production, paving operations and, perhaps most importantly, road surface evenness. Furthermore, increased knowledge on structural behavior and appropriate remedial measures (maintenance and rehabilitation) is essential in these contracts. NCC is increasingly offering public-sector customers, national and municipal authorities, totalpackage undertakings, known as performance based contracts, which include longterm planning of resources for production, servicing and maintenance of road networks over a number of years – our longest contract is 20 years. www.ncc.se •

Sandahls Grus & Asfalt AB Sandahls Grus & Asfalt AB is an asphalt company that is the smallest of the six major players in Sweden, but we focus on more complex work. It is included as one of six companies to Sandahls Group. We are just over a hundred employees and with a annual sales of over half a billion SEK. The company was founded in 1991 and rose from Molander asphalt which had been active also in our neighboring country Norway. Ingvar Sandahl, owner of Sweden's largest private transport company with over 400 trucks, was creating Sandahls Grus & AB together with Jan-Åke Molander, former CEO of Molander Asphalt AB. In the start-up phase one performed to the most itinerant jobs in the country from Kiruna airfield in the north down to central of Sweden, Jonkoping and western parts of the country (the Gothenburg region). The covering body of Sandahls Grus & Asfalt AB rests primarily on three regions, Gothenburg, Jonkoping and Stockholm. The company today has four asphalt plants of the Swiss brand, Ammann, with a capacity of 160-180 tons / hr. They are built six ply fractioning and three of them are equipped with a parallel drum for hot recycling. One of our asphalt plants is a new plant for the production of so-called eco asphalt or sometimes named green asphalt, ie, low-temperature asphalt. Sandahls is trying hard to be innovative and was for example the first in Sweden with the hot recycling. We look at different solutions to, among other things. a. reduce bitumen use by investing in equipment to mix in tar paper that has been rejected under production in the factory that produce tar paper rolls ie. brand new tar paper. Sandahl Grus & Asfalt AB created 2014 an entrepreneurial department, Mark & Betong, in Stockholm. They have special expertise for concrete refurbishment of bridges, parking deck and garage and courtyards etc. They also perform small and medium-sized wastewater and road projects. Clients include municipalities, the Swedish Transport Administration and private clients. The company works with a quality system according to EN ISO 900. www.asfalt.nu •

Sven Sjoegren Marketing Executive Sandahls Grus & Asfalt AB - Joined the company in year 2012 - I started my carrier as a police officer 1976 - Worked two years in uniform and was in 1980 admitted to the security police. - Worked mainly against the threat from the former Soviet Union and of their espionage activities directed against Sweden. - Was recruited by the Swedish intelligence in 1988 and served there until 2012. In order to sneak out a so-called back door, I worked a short time at the Security Service as a bodyguard of the Swedish Royal Family. - Following the pilot training on twin-engine aircraft in the US, I came in contact with Patrik Molander, CEO Sandahls Grus & Asfalt AB 2002. Swedish Armed Forces rented a twin-engine aircraft by Patrik from 2002, where I was the pilot when it was used. I’m still flying two types of helicopters. - Much of the training, intelligence, often placed abroad, was about the management of people, (behavioral) and negotiation skills, a knowledge that Patrik Molander felt was a good value for the SGA. I served as head of a department and later as assistant director to chief of staff in the service for the last decade. I am very proud that I am one of two Swedes since 1945, which received a US Government honors, Alben Barkley's medal for exceptional intelligence collection, which was submitted to me in 2005 during a formal ceremony. - In year 2012 I was employed as marketing executive at Sandahls Grus & Asfalt AB. In addition to market responsibility I am involved in operational issues, and the most interesting area is business development.

Safwat Said Senior researcher in the field of Highway engineering with experience of research projects concerning mechanical properties of asphalt concrete, full-scale road test sections and rehabilitation of roads. Pavement evaluation in respect of fatigue cracking and permanent deformation in the asphalt concrete layer is within his area of interest, too. His research includes even investigation on mechanical testing of asphalt materials. This research, in co-operation with the asphalt material branch, has resulted in successful performance specifications for asphalt materials, having become parts of the Swedish norm. In addition, he has been active in co-operation with the universities, international organisations (RILEM, PIARC) and international projects (EU and OECD projects) in the area of highway engineering. Recent research work is focused on characterization of asphalt materials with respect to shear properties and viscosity at various conditions. The data is used for modelling permanent deformation of asphalt concrete layers for prognostication of rutting using linear viscoelastic theory due to repeated traffic loading in the field. The model is called PEDRO (Permanent deformation of asphalt concrete layer for roads), at an early date can be downloaded from www.vti.se [email protected]
