Sustainable Packaging
Holfeld Plastics is a family run business, operating from the glorious Vale of Avoca in Ireland’s “Garden County”. The company was established in 1978, initially supplying foam packaging to the cosmetics industry. During the intervening years, we have grown to become one of the leading Rigid Plastics Packaging Manufacturers in the European market, and operate from a new custom-built manufacturing plant on a 250 acre campus, approximately one hour south of Dublin, Ireland.
Sustainable Packaging That Won’t Cost The Earth
Our business model is based around delivery of innovative products and solutions for our customers, who are drawn from some of the most respected household names within the U.K., Ireland and Europe primarily in the food and electronics sectors. The key to our success has been an agile and flexible manufacturing operation, supported by a front-line service team which puts the needs of our customers first – every time. This, allied to the additional attention to detail and friendly, attentive service that you’d expect from a family business, makes us one of the most respected names in our industry.

We’re currently in the process of adding a further 10,000 tons of rPET sheet manufacturing capacity, which will allow us deliver an even better service to our customers.
Leading the way in Sustainable Packaging
We’re currently in the process of launching a revolutionary new low carbon rPET material (rPET-ECO), with a specific gravity of just 1g/cm3. This will be launched shortly into the fresh food market, rPET-ECO offers easy cut, low temperature forming while also providing a very attractive looking product.
Holfeld Plastics are leaders in Sustainable Packaging in Ireland, England and Northern Europe. One of the key benefits of our recycled PET raw material is that it’s approximately 80% lower in terms of its carbon footprint than virgin PET or Polypropylene.
Holfeld recently launched a new mono rPET material called ‘Holseal’ to eliminate the requirement for an additional PE layer to achieve a ‘lock seal’ in primary poultry applications. This is a mono material that is fully recyclable. We are also working on a range of active packaging technologies, which use a natural anti-microbial product, reducing oxidisation for additional food safety and longer shelf life. We expect these to be launched in 2011.
1. PET bottles are collected and sorted as part of normal recycling.

2. The bottles are washed, sorted and ground into flakes.
3. Holfeld purchase the washed flake & produce high quality rPET Superclean sheet.
4. We produce 8000 tonnes of rPET sheet. The sheet is either thermoformed internally or sold to food packers who convert it themselves.
5. These steps allow us to produce one of the most environmentally friendly trays in the market.
We use VacuRema Superclean technology for all post consumer recyclate destined for direct food contact, and have already submitted a dossier to the European Food Safety Authority for approval of our Superclean processes.
Our success over the past three decades has been built on a platform of unstinting quality in all aspects of our operations. Our new production facility contains state-of-theart machinery which guarantees optimum results every time. We conform to the relevant British Retail Consortium (BRC) global standard for packaging and packaging materials, which provides a powerful, third party guarantee of the quality processes and procedures in place at Holfeld Plastics. And because we don’t operate fixed production lines, we can provide an exceptional level of flexibility when it comes to size of run, product dimensions and colour of run. However, the equipment is of a scale to offer competitive prices on large volume projects also.
