Sustainability Manager Position Description

Purpose of the role

KEY TASKS Sustainability

To support the General Manager- Facilities and Development, by carrying out the ongoing existing sustainability related tasks, as well as proactively identifying and driving new sustainability programmes, to deliver positive outcomes for the organisation and the environment.







   

Supporting Function

EXPECTED OUTCOMES Waste Management, including the organisation of waste contractor resources as required, invoice approval, monthly reporting and updating of sustainability web-page (all waste streams). Travel Planning, covering public transport, carpooling, cycling, walk to work, development of staff events, staff communications, the updating of sustainability web-page and relationship management with Auckland Transport. Environmental Management. Ensuring best-practice standards, processes and systems are in place and adhered to. Direct intervention where necessary. The development and delivery of staff sustainability training. Carbon accounting to the ISO: 14064 and Green House Gas Protocol standards. On-going monitoring and monthly reporting. Updating of sustainability web-page. Development and production of an annual sustainability report to the Global Reporting Initiative and AA1000 standards. Ensure continued Enviro-Mark Gold certification for both North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals. Assisting the General Manager -Facilities with tracking energy and water consumption on a monthly basis, with the aim of identifying opportunities for improvement. Updating the monthly figures on the sustainability web-page. Low Impact Building Design – Collaborate with Facilities on new builds and refurbishments, to ensure the correct approach and standards are identified and communicated. Assist with the preparation of written reports and capital business cases as required. Assist with operational and capital budget planning as required. Actively engage in working collaboratively with Auckland DHB in the achievement of joint objectives as determined by the General Manager- Facilities

5 years’ experience in developing and implementing sustainability programmes, including waste management and minimisation.

Tertiary Qualification in Environmental Management, Sustainable Business or other relevant topic.

Sustainability related training, including a strong understanding of relevant frameworks, such as the AA1000, the GRI and GHGP.

Practical knowledge of the application of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi within a health setting.

Experience in developing and implementing sustainability programmes to a very high standard.

Mid-level experience in organisations developing and implementing sustainability programmes.

Very strong written and verbal communications skills.

Experience in working alongside a diverse team of people

Experience and strong evidence of an ability to develop a culture of innovation, performance and transparency focused on the customer. Performance and outcome focused within tight budget and timeframes. Experience in the development, implementation and delivery of a range of specialist services.
